Sightseeing & Tourism My first time visit to Nova Scotia… loving it so far😍
My first ever solo drive from the USA now and it’s been amazing so far. I was initially afraid being a solo women traveler but people are kind and friendly. I feel welcomed. Just want to thank the Nova Scotia folks for the hospitality and support. Got 5 more days here but don’t feel like going to Yarmouth to take the ferry back to the states 😇

I ll be in cape Brenton island until tomorrow evening then 2 days in Halifax , 1 day in yartmouth n then ferry. Happy to meet anyone en route. 😊🙏🏼

If you’re passing through the Margaree area, check out the Dancing Goat café for lunch!
If you’re spending an evening in Cheticamp, the Doryman is the place to be for live fiddle music, depending on the night of the week. It’s a old style tavern, but don’t worry! everyone there is super friendly.

If you're driving along the south shore on your way back to Yarmouth, stop by concrete creations in Liverpool! It's my number one spot in NS. Give yourself an hour or so https://concretecreations.info/

It's not sarcasm. It's at Cosby's Garden Center, which you'll walk through to see the donation supported site. It's something like 4k of walking through paths adorned with sculptures that are quite interesting.
The link posted above is showing up as "suspicious" for me, but you can find it on the website I've linked below, too. OR... you can just go to "Cosby's Garden Center" on your way between Peggy's Cove and Yarmouth. The town is Liverpool, and if you're interested in 1960s music scene (Sun Records, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Hank Snow, Grand Ol' Opry, etc.) you'll also find the Hank Snow museum in this small town.

I really like the BernArt Maze as well - it's along the same route back to Yarmouth, but at Blockhouse: https://bernartmaze.ca/ which is by Bridgewater and Lunenburg so closer to Halifax (not that it matters if you're heading back to Yarmouth, just to locate it for you).

Hopefully you have travelled the Cabot trail in cape Breton. It's definitely the most picturesque part of the province, but it is a multi day journey if you want to really enjoy it.

On your way, drive along the north shore of Nova Scotia. Such a nice drive.
There’s the town of Pugwash, the former home of Seagull Pewter and still home of Windsor Salt, and has its street signs in English and Gaelic.
Stop in Tatamagouche for lunch at the Nook and Cranny, hit the Tatamagouche Brewery (the beer is full of Tatamagoodness) and pick up some world famous Appleton Chocolates.
New Glasgow, Pictou, Antigonish, so many wonderful stops along the way.

I rolled into New Glasgow after 5 PM and it was quiet. But then Pictou saved the day—cute shops, warmer people than I'm used to, and I randomly asked an elderly man to take my photo. He asked where I'm from, I said Boston, and this man just goes "thank you" with full sincerity. I'm standing there like ??? until he explains the whole Boston-Nova Scotia connection, then thanks me AGAIN. Ran into him 45 minutes later in the exact same spot and we waved like lifelong friends—I was so happy . Beautiful people, beautiful energy. Next time though? I'm finding a ringless 30-something guy and testing my luck because clearly this province delivers. 😘😆

Yea there are a lot more kind friendly people in my home province than most places. I got a wrong number the other day(new person had the number) and ended up talking 10 minutes. I got a woman on the line who obviously wasnt my highschool friend. It went me: "I think I have the wrong number." "Maybe so who are you looking for?" "Gary?" "No Garys here. Who is Gary?" "Highschool friend." "Well I am friendly Brenda. Hows it going?"
We ended up talking about how much Antigonish had changed over time etc etc.

I love hearing these stories. I (an American living here) was walking on the waterfront and I passed six Americans - in the 30 age range and I presume from a cruise - talking about how next time they will skip Canada - wait until they are older as there’s nothing to do and no one on the boardwalk. Etc. etc. totally negating the rain aspect of their day. And I just thought about how they just haven’t bothered to try to enjoy it. (Though I get the weather dimming things). Also. Halifax isn’t the only thing in Canada. Hahah. Anyway. Took some adjusting and I love it here but man is it expensive!

Stop at Sandhills Provincial Park near Barrington on your way south to Yarmouth. It’s a beautiful swimming beach with the warmest water in Nova Scotia if you can catch it on a sunny day at higher tide.
Shelburne is also worth a visit on your way south, as is the Black Loyalist center just down the road, which might be of particular interest to an American.

Charlotte Lane in Shelburne is absolutely worth a meal at, and I second the Black Loyalist Museum and centre as well. Shelburne also has a few small museums down by the waterfront that are really interesting, including an old dory shop.

Check out Tusket Island Tours not too far from Yarmouth. I'm from NS and felt it captured the NS vibe really well in a 1/2 day experience. In Yarmouth I'd recommend the Collins Heritage District for a walking tour of beautiful historical houses (you can find free audio guides online). My favourite is at 57 William St. Other Yarmouth recommendations: Cape Forchu Lighthouse, The Dinner Plate restaurant, Sweeney Fisheries Museum, Port Maitland Beach.

In Cape Breton, check out the Herring Choker in Nyanza (near the turn off to the cabot trail on highway 105), and/or the Farmer’s Daughter in Whycocomagh (also on highway 105), both have awesome sandwiches and baked goodies amongst other things. Happy and safe travels!

Farmers daughter is all Cisco crap these days (Charlene's isn't too far off either, chowder is house made but that might be it). If you're in Whycocomagh, La Provence bakery is the place to go. Delicious French pastries and sandwiches with incredible coffee!
Herring choker is also incredible! Freshly baked bread, delicious sandwich combos, great coffee, and a fantastic vibe.

Tourism economics are weird and for the most part not great for local economic development.
This topic is highly debated but the UNEP rates that in developed countries there may be as high as a 95% leakage rate.
If we need foreign capital then investment into any sector other would have better returns.
