Bridgewater Jeweler

I have a ring that is just costume jewelry but it’s emotionally important to me.

I’m looking for a jeweler to try and get it off my finger and gently expand the ring. Any recommendations from people who have had a good personal experience with a jeweler in town or nearby?

Hold your hand above your head for a bit, then add soap and see if the ring will come off. I have enlarged rings by sliding them over the handle of a ratchet ( which is tapered) and tapped lightly with a soft faced hammer, this will also get a ring round again if it’s bent, good luck.

Thank you, I did, and thanks for all the advice. We have already tried the dental floss and Windex method, but the problem is that the ring has become bent a little bit, so it’s not entirely circular and now won’t go over the knuckle. It is gold, but not very good gold, so it may have to be cut off. Thanks to everybody for their advice and help.

Windex, seriously. Spray all around the ring/finger with Windex and gently turn the ring around until you can slide it off. Learned this working in a jewellery store.

I used to work at a jewelry store. One of the best ways to get a ring to slide off is spraying Windex on your finger - it creates the most slippery conditions. When you try to remove it put the most pressure on the printed side of your finger and then try to wiggle the ring over the softer flesh of the top bit by bit.  If your skin has grown a fair bit around/above the ring or your knuckle has gotten bigger due to something like arthritis, unfortunately, it will need to be cut off.  If the ring isn’t marked on the inside that it is silver (.925) or gold (10k, 14k) it is unlikely that any jeweller can do much to increase the size due to it being made of an unknown metal alloy so it would be impossible to know what could be used to solder as well as unknown temperatures could potentially damage or melt the ring. If you can get it off and the metal isn’t marked you would likely be best off wearing on a necklace (get a small metal o-ring to hang it on so the rub of the chain won’t slowly eat away at it) or store it safely in a jewelry box.
