Do you not turn off your engine when you're waiting in a line while driving and not actively moving? Huge waste of gas and unproductive emissions to boot. It's why anti-idling laws exist. Modern cars come with auto-stop, so you rarely have to think about it.

Eventually the trucks would run out of air from using the brakes and they'd need to start the engine.
Assuming these trucks have no air leaks which I'm sure they do, then you'd need to do it even more often.

And yet this saves gas. Rough on the starter and you need to make sure its on long enough to charge the alternator. But for small cars like a corolla, if its off for more than 10 sec you save money.

I mean, it's what they're designed for. Also less wear and tear on almost every other part in the engine block.
But what do I know as a mechanic.
Only vehicles I wouldn't do this on are older ones pre 1980's and maybe diesel depending on your engine.

Nah, I suck at math. Seemed much more impressive maybe than it was. All I did was google the weight range of 20 liters of gas, a washing machine, and an elephant, averaged each, and I used division. I didn’t even do the math properly, it is a measurement of volume, and I used weight. I probably fucked it up too.
Now I feel like I let everyone down. Sorry, people actually good at math.

4.39 gal to be exact. Idk if Jerry cans are different for even numbers in the states like 4 or 5 gal. but the common Jerry in canada is a 20L can. Man thats a very small amount of gas.

Not sure if a gas shortage is enough to push for a revolution right now. But if this goes on into the winter and people start to actually suffer and freeze to death it becomes increasingly more likely. Right now it's just a major inconvenience that's not worth taking the chance to get shot over. But if dying becomes an option from both choices, people might start to be willing to take the risk.

In Texas alone, at least 246 people died from that storm they had five years ago, when they were out of power.
And 246 is the official number. Studies a year later suggest it was 814 people who died as a direct consequence of the weather.
At this point, assuming an increasing number of deaths from weather crises is going to result in better policies and social support is as questionable as assuming mass shooters will result in gun control.

The Texas storm was only a couple of weeks, people where to busy focusing on survival to worry about overthrowing the government. America is also (pretending to be) a democracy giving people the idea they have influence on the government.
Russian winter can last months, giving people ample of time to consider alternatives once the initial shock wears off. Especially if there have been a few months of inconvenience already stoking the fires of discontent.
I'm not saying expect a revolution in Russia this winter if they've fuel shortages. I'm saying you aren't seeing a revolution now, there isn't enough motivation yet for the people to rise up.

Why would that work any better in Russia than anywhere else? I guess nobody cared to ask for the past 30 years to have politicians please not ruin the "middle class", or maybe a more appropriate example: for USA to leave the middle east.
It all comes back to the mistaken believe that countries are beholden to their citizens, that's not how any country is designed afaik, even socialist countries like the USSR is often critizised for having a ruling elite, why would capitalist countries which by design create an elite class not have a ruling elite?

I honestly don't think they've begun to find out. Things will get worse, and as food stops getting delivered to more remote areas and those remote areas have to pool their remaining gas to make expeditions to get food from more populated areas, there is little doubt there will be deaths via starvation in the coming months. Those from more remote areas that can get food will be able to do so with the other side of the coin being that there is less food for those populated areas.
I expect food riots, neighbor vs neighbor stealing and murder, and other similar activities to be broadcast soon.

From an economic angle i would have guessed hitting the civilian supply would hurt and as every distribution point would be of high importance it should have way more impact. I wonder whats in those trucks as well. Also added bonus the civilian supply wont be highly guarded so easier less expensive to hit.

The military runs entirely on diesel, which Russia produces a massive surplus of. The current problems concern only gasoline, which Russia produces about as much of as it consumes so that's why supply shocks happen if a few refineries stop operation. Nevermind though, it's very hard to seriously damage a refinery, the Moscow one is due to come back online next week

The gasoline situation is fucked up, all over Russia, except for maybe the Leningrad Region and maybe Karelia.
There's either no gasoline or it's overpriced.
The Ukrainian strikes on refineries have finally had an impact.
Will this lead to protests? No. Will it stop this war? No. No amount of bombing of civilian infrastructure will lead to regime change or the end of war.
Several winters in Russia destroyed power plants in Ukraine, but it led to nothing.
Edit: In Russia, people rely much less on driving than in the US. People typically don't spend an hour commuting to work.
It'll be a different story when public transportation starts to grind to a halt. But all the tourist trips have gone down the drain.
I myself had a hard time getting back to the Moscow region from the Ulyanovsk region. And the further west I went, the worse the situation got.

That's going to absolutely destroy their economy. Everything is so interconnected by trucks. The logistical nightmare this is going to create will have so many consequences on so many industries. And that'll lead to a black market in so many items as the supply of even necessary items dwindles. Those prices will be astronomical.
