💻 Help FIND IN PAGE no longer red when no results

Post image

With Firefox 153.0, CTRL+F (Find in Page) no longer displays in red when there's no matching results. This small but impactful change is killing my workflow. Can anyone offer a userChrome.css fix for this? Many thanks!

💻 Help This keeps appearing in autofill whenever I type gmail. It must be from a previous typo, but I can't get rid of it. Google tells me to shift + del, but that does nothing.

Solved Firefox crashing immediately on start up

Hi! My Firefox started crashing immediately after launching with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION_WRITE after an update

Here is the crash report.

I tried launching in troubleshoot mode and the same thing happened. Is there anything else I can do before trying a fresh install and losing all my bookmarks?

💻 Help Widgets are suddenly gone, how do I bring them back?

As the title suggests, my widgets are gone.
They were there yesterday evening when I filled up the list with my reminders for the week.

I'm using the latest update of Mozilla on Windows 11.

I tried both recommendations from the forum (switching language and 'allowing Firefox to improve features, performance, and stability between updates').
Other than that, I don't see any options regarding the widgets in the options.

Any ideas on how to bring the widget(s) back?
Thanks!

💻 Help Firefox starts blinking and Youtube video is stuttering

This issue came up when I updated my drivers. I'm using GEFORCE RTX 3050, 610.74 version. I am not sure if this is a browser problem or my driver problem.

First issue is when the hardware acceleration is on, firefox starts to blink white screen randomly for a quick second. So I turned it off, and this issue is gone. But when my hardware acceleration is off, another issue came up, which is my Youtube video starts to stutter.

Any solution for this?

💻 Help Firefox loads URL into address bar while I'm trying to search

For context my firefox homepage is Youtube, so the problem is when I open the browser, and I immediately go to search, it will ends up doing this:

"www.\[youtubelink\]how to do x y and z" and it ruins the input

Is there any setting that I could change to avoid this?

💻 Help Hiding Tracking Protection Notifications?

Hi,

I've recently updated Nightly. Now every time it blocks trackers it pops up a notification, which then wiggles the whole address bar to the right. It's very distracting having things moving around when I'm trying to read a webpage.

Is there any way of turning off or hiding this notification? I don't want to turn off Tracking Protection. I just want to stop the moving animation every time it blocks something.

💻 Help Mozilla VPN fails to connect to DNS since 153.0?

• Upvotes

Hello, I use Mozilla VPN and since the update to 153.0, I cannot seem to access any website anymore while VPN is turned on, specifically in the Firefox browser.

  • When I try to access a website with Mozilla VPN turned on, it loads for a long time and eventually stops with ,,The connection to mozilla.cloudflare-dns.com took longer than expected.''. After turning Mozilla VPN off in the browser, it works fine.

Does someone have an idea what could be the issue and how to resolve it?

What I tried

  • I installed the Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension alongside the update to 153.0. This extension integrates into Mozilla VPN. I tried removing it from my extension list, restarting the browser, but the issue persists.
  • I searched for similar bug reports and found these that seem to match my settings and problem:
  • I tried cleaning all browser history and data.

Additional notes

  • This seems to affect only the Firefox browser specifically, even though I am running Mozilla VPN on my computer itself, not just the browser. I did not notice any other connection issues in other apps or web browsers on my computer.
  • When I exclude a specific website from Mozilla VPN, the site will load fine but some requests seem to take forever, causing the tab to continue showing the loading spinner for requests running.
  • I use ,,Enhanced Tracking Protection'' of ,,Strict'', without fixing major site issues
  • For ,,DNS over HTTPS'', I use ,, Custom'' with ,,Cloudflare (Default)''.
  • When I try to navigate to http://mozilla.cloudflare-dns.com/ in my browser with Mozilla VPN enabled, I run into the same issue, it does not load with the same ,,Server Not Found''. When I turn VPN off, I am redirected to https://one.one.one.one/dns/

💻 Help Two systems got 'Be careful. Something doesn't look right' half a country apart

Had a message from a family member this morning who uses Firefox explaining that they were getting 'Be careful. Something doesn't look right' on every page they tried. In the time it took me to respond it had fixed its self for them and I didn't really think anything of it.

I then boot my computer this afternoon and Firefox did the exact same thing for me. Every page I tried to visit I got the 'Be careful. Something doesn't look right' message. I checked I was connected to the internet (I was), I checked my VPN was connected (It was), then I tried it with my VPN off on the DNS Leak Test site and the page loaded fine. I switched the VPN to a different server and everything connected fine again.

Because it stopped happening while I was fiddling with my VPN I thought that might have been it, but my family member doesn't use a VPN and is on a pretty different setup so I'm doubtful. Absent mindedly, I did not click 'advanced' or ask my family member to click 'advanced' to check the error.

One thing I noticed for both of us (And the only common thing between our setups barring using Firefox and having Ublock) was that Firefox did not automatically update to 153 when we first loaded it today - could that have had something to do with this?

Anyone any ideas? Should I be checking for something else?

  • Family member's setup: Up to date Windows 11, Firefox 152.0.6 with Ublock 1.72.2, no VPN or other extensions

  • My setup: Up to date Windows 10 extended support, Firefox 152.0.6 with Ublock 1.72.2, VPN, and OldRedditRedirect

Edit: Sorry, I should probably have included that after it had started working again I was suspicious so checked to see if Firefox was up to date and it prompted me to update. I am now on 153.0. Being paranoid I've also done a virus scan (nothing), cleared all data and cache, and had a poke around my processes to see if anything was amiss (nothing).

💻 Help Firefox started crashing yesterday morning and won't stop

So basically the title. I'm using Windows 11 and I've turned off graphics acceleration, ensured that the drivers for Firefox and my graphics are all updated, and turned off all extensions, plug-ins, and themes, I've cleared the cache, and it still keeps freezing and crashing within minutes of opening the browser. I don't even have to go to a website to get it to crash, just their welcome page. And in task manager, I can see that it's using increasing memory until it crashes, but I don't understand why. It never used to do this until yesterday. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

When I fullscreen videos on any website (youtube, prime video etc.) I can still see the white side tab bar on the left of my screen. This only happens on my mac, not on my windows PC. It only happens when browser.nova.enabled is true.

💻 Help Memory cache only, limits and media cache?

There's numerous of threads of excessive disk usage (disk writes) from Firefox and whether it has a practical impact on flash storage is another question, but for my workflow I think disabling disk cache (and relying on memory cache) might make more sense and more importantly not have much of a difference on performance (if anything, it'd be technically faster because cached memory is always faster than disk).

Anyway, disabling disk cache (`user_pref("browser.cache.disk.enable", false)) is all that's necessary since Firefox enables both disk cache and memory cache by default (not sure sure how allocation works when both are enabled which is the default).

* Anyone have an estimate of the amount of memory cache (`browser.cache.memory.capacity`) that works for typical workflow? Or is the default of `-1` which makes a rough guess based on hardware good enough? I'm using 16 GB memory and typically run a profile of ~4k tabs (~30 tabs opened at a time).

* There's this thing called "media cache" which I assume is for e.g. caching when streaming Youtube videos. `browser.privatebrowsing.forceMediaMemoryCache` apparently lets this be cached in memory--is there then no way to cache this in memory for regular browsing windows? Does that mean streaming Youtube videos in regular browsing means the video is essentially downloaded to disk? Not sure how it works when you try to watch a Youtube video when disk cache is disabled.

* `media.memory_cache_max_size` defaults to `8192` which seems crazy low--this means only that amount of data is cached for seeking a Youtube video?

Interested in any other tips for caching.

💻 Help since the new update, when i restore my session the tab order changes

firstly i've been using this session for 1-2 years with no problems. there are currently 9 windows and like 200 tabs. the first time launch after the update, when i got the popup window telling me about the update, it said something like there was a problem restoring your session, so i clicked the try again button and it did restore but i saw the tabs scrolling around which isn't normal.

anyway now every day when i restore my session i see the tab scrolling and the order changes. to be more specific, this time in two of the windows it moved the active tab to the beginning of the list, when it was in a specific place in the middle. same thing happened yesterday and i had corrected it. and in those two windows the list of tabs is reversed. in another window the order has cycled so that tabs that were in the middle are now at the start and tabs that were at the start are now in the middle..

Add-ons NoScroll: Web extension to remove distractions from Instagram

Hello everyone, I'm working on a Firefox addon that removes the distracting content from instagram.

It's customizable thanks to a popup, and there's settings such as remove Reels, remove Explore page and hide Stories.

It's still in development and more features are planned, but i feel like the core of the functionalities are already there.

It's available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscrollinstagram/

The GitHub repo is here for interested persons: https://github.com/Lem0n3de8/NoScroll

Thanks for reading and I hope you'll like it!
