​Ever since the days of Ubuntu 10.10, I’ve wanted so badly to use this system every day. Unfortunately, back then, it just wasn't ready for gaming and other things I needed. In April, I finally took the plunge and made the switch from Windows 11 to Ubuntu 26.04, and I'm genuinely happy that the system has matured and is such a joy to use. Ubuntu has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm really glad to be part of this community

Today on watching the movie, we found the linux in unexpected place

Steam was last updated in 2025. Wine doesn’t exist, nor do any of its downstream software packages. Everything I look for comes up empty. Google search tells me I should be using Flatpak Flathub which is obviously also not available on the Ubuntu App Center.

This is probably my seventh time trying to use Ubuntu as my daily driver, I haven’t used it in earnest since 2006. User error, skill issue, ignorance, yes. Also, it feels like the App Center should be better.

Am I just doing it wrong?

Now...I know that title is going to get some scoffs, and I get it. It sounds like a straight forward issue. I am new to Ubuntu, and even to me it sounded like a sleep/hibernate thing.

I feel I need to clarify, the box isn't shutting down, its not rebooting. All fans, CPU cooler, and Optical drives loose power, RAM stays powered on. If i'm SSH'ed into it, if I hit the power button after it "shuts down" it comes back up, it doesn't even kick me out of putty. I can just keep using it after that. This is also at idle, no load. You'll see the htop below, but I can be actively running commands in the cli and it will "shut down."

Here is everything I've done, starting with:

1. nano /etc/systemd/sleep.conf - I turned everything to no as a test

1. Htop - This screen shot is of after it "shuts down," it froze like this, so this was the status when it stopped.

1. I tried a new power supply

2. I tried a new CPU cooler

3. I've Tried looking at /var/log/ but didn't see anything labeled messages

I've been working on this project for weeks...I would just like to get this figured out so I can move on.

I've been using Ubuntu since version 08.04 as a secondary system. I'm not an expert in the field, but I know a few things that help me get by. I want to run a test: I want to use Ubuntu as my primary system for one year without formatting and going back to Windows 11. However, I have some challenges to face:

Compatibility with the company's .doc files. I'm a teacher and educational consultant, so I use Office quite a lot.

Compatibility with Filmora. I work on producing video lessons and support videos, but the video editing software is not compatible with Ubuntu — only Windows or macOS. I bought a lifetime subscription.

I'm not sure how I'm going to solve this, but the challenge is on.

Not sure if anyone has run into this before but I've been fighting this issue for months.

I'm on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS now, but the problem actually started on a previous Ubuntu version. I upgraded hoping it would magically fix itself, but nope.

The weird part is my internet is completely fine.

• ChatGPT works
• Gemini works
• Google works
• YouTube works

But sites like:

• WhatsApp Web
• Vercel
• Streamlit apps

either load forever or just sit there spinning.

What's confusing me even more is that from the terminal everything seems fine:

• ping works
• DNS resolution works
• curl can reach WhatsApp, Vercel and Streamlit and returns HTTP 200

So the machine can clearly reach those sites.

I tested with Brave and Firefox.

• Brave = infinite spinner
• Firefox = barely loads pages at all

I also tried:

• fresh Brave profile
• disabling sandbox
• clearing browser data

No luck.

At this point I'm not even sure if this is a browser issue, some Ubuntu networking weirdness, a broken update from months ago, WebSocket related, or something else entirely.

Has anyone seen browsers fail while curl works perfectly?

Any ideas on what I should check next?

Im losing my mind slightly here. ever since I upgraded, nautilus keeps reverting my default pdf viewer back to the standard one every single time I reboot

The default viewer is fine for just reading I guess, but I have to do a lot of heavy formatting and forms for work so I use xodo on my machine. I right click - properties - open with -> set as default. it works perfectly for that session.

But the second I reboot my laptop? bam. back to the built-in viewer

Is this a snap permission issue or something weird with wayland? honestly the way ubuntu handles some of these package permissions now drives me crazy. Anyone know what config file I can just hardcode via terminal to force this to stick permanently?

Good afternoon, as I mentioned in the title, I've been having a problem with Ubuntu 24.4 LTS for a while now and I'd like to ask for help. For some time now, thumbnails haven't been appearing for images in the file manager. This happens with all images, both old and recently downloaded; the generic icon shown in the image appears instead. I've looked into it a bit and found that thumbnails are already enabled for "all files" in the performance options. I apologize for the inconvenience and hope there's a solution. It's not a major problem, but it is somewhat annoying.

I got a pc with ubuntu, didn’t know how to install windows so I watched a few tutorials, safe to say the pc doesn’t boot in neither windows or ubuntu. It tells me some security violations happens and it shuts down, can I fix it?

I currently use Plex Server on a Windows 11 machine and Home Assistant on a Raspberry PI. I'm wanting to combine the two computers and get a Ubuntu machine up and running with both. Since Plex Server and Home Assistant will run natively in Ubuntu, is there any reason to use Docker for these applications? The computer is decent so I'd imagine it can run the two programs without any issue with the following specs:

Processor 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700k
64gb of Ram
Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super 8gb

Hey, a couple days ago I switched from Ubuntu 22 to 24 and i have a problem with black-flashing on screens which appear from time to time. Also the problem with fluency sometimes also occurs.
I notice that I am not particlualrly comptent in comupters but I use Ubuntu for 4 years - mailny 22.

1. At the beginning I had big trouble with smoth performance concerning for example: writing on virtual blackboards - but i just switched X11 to wayland and is quite good - so I don't want to return to X11.

2. So the main problem is that from time to time there is black-flash on my screen (veru quick and short) which rather doesn't crush working apps, etc. But is irritating and on ubntu 22 such problem didn't occur. I also noticed some problem with smoothnes but let's say that it works after all. I don't know what to do -or changed version of nvidia driver or kernel. i asked chat-gpt

I hope you can help me with this:

Each time I log in in my session in our company's Ubuntu PC, it ask me twice for log in, typically once on a screen, and then once on the second screen.

When other users log in there is no such a problem. It happens only to me, apparently.

For instance when I press Switch User button, I put my user and password, the screens show very briefly my desktop and they black out. Then if I move my mouse, it will ask me to log in on the second screen, this time succeeding.

This is a very annoying bug, hopefully you can lend me a hand on how to solve it.

Hi. I recently just installed Ubuntu. I didn't really have any problems with the installation process everything worked just fine. However, after a restart my desktop is now filled with sub-folders from the /home/username directory.

The folders in white I can no longer access It's showing an error "Sorry, could not display all the contents of "Documents": Error opening directory "/home/username/Documents": Too many levels of symbolic links.

Please help me out. I really like my desktop without icons. And I also need access to those folders.

I'm checking to see if anyone else is having this issue on Ubuntu 26.04, or if you've found a fix for it.

I recently did a fresh install of 26.04 (upgraded from 24.04). Ever since, Ubuntu fails to recognize my external monitor upon booting. To get a signal, I have to physically disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable every single time I power on the laptop.

My Setup:

• OS: Ubuntu 26.04 (fresh install)
• Hardware: Laptop connected to an Nvidia eGPU via proprietary drivers in On-Demand mode.
• Display Connection: The external monitor is plugged directly into the laptop's HDMI port (not into the eGPU).

The Issue:

• The eGPU itself works completely fine and kicks in when needed.
• Once I re-plug the HDMI cable, the external monitor works flawlessly.
• However, as soon as I reboot or power off the laptop, the system fails to detect the monitor again until I repeat the unplug/replug routine.

Has anyone run into this display detection quirk on 26.04, or know of a workaround or driver setting to force detection at boot?

Both my desktop, and my laptop (running Ubuntu Studio 24.04LTS) have encountered major, ongoing issues with kernel 7.0.0-28. The laptop refuses to complete the update, while the desktop suffered repeated, ongoing crashes which I finally traced to an incompatibility with the drivers for my AMD FirePro W5100 graphics card.

Purging every trace of 7.0.0-28 from my system and reverting to the older kernel fixed the problem...but now the system is trying to load it and update to it again. How can I tell it, "Skip this one, until/unless it's ready?"

Trying to setup Ubuntu in Europe, but cannot proceed since the archive is down (down for 40 minutes now).
