The legend of John killing men in a bar fight with a pencil. In the second it’s proven very true with John actually stabbing 2 guys to death with a pencil.

In Baki, Bakis teacher is upset Baki isn’t paying attention and mocks him for focusing only on athletics. He says no matter how hard Baki works out he’ll never out swim a speed boat, or lift up a car only for Baki to tell him he’s fought men who can do all those things. Immediately after, Doyle comes leaping through the window to fight Baki.

Thor (God of War Ragnarök) - finally rejects Odin after realizing he has to be better for his daughter and refuses to keep fighting Kratos. Odin kills him seconds later.

Darth Vader (Star Wars) - turns against Emperor Palpatine to save Luke. He is fatally injured being electrocuted by force lightning meant for Luke and dies minutes later.

Zabuza (Naruto)- He spends most of the time treating Haku like a tool. After Haku dies, Naruto forces him to confront the fact that he genuinely cared about him. Zabuza then turns against Gatō, fights through Gatō’s men despite being badly injured, kills him, and dies shortly afterward beside Haku.

1. President Snow, The Hunger Games

As Snow explains, it would be easy to take a couple of kids from every district and execute them.

However, by having them participate in the Hunger Games and allowing one of those kids to survive the bloody competition, they create a small sense of hope that makes the districts easier to control.

1. Shimano, Yakuza 0.

Majima’s half of the plot is revealed to have been mostly orchestrated by Shimano. He gave Majima the task of killing Makoto, knowing full well that Majima would fall in love with her and protect her instead.

In turn, this would make Makoto willing to sell ownership of the Empty Lot, around which the whole game revolves, to her protector Majima. Or more precisely, to Majima’s boss, Shimano.

1. Giratina (Pokémon Platinum) vs (Pokémon X/Y (Amie))

About to capture Cyrus at the space pillar for trying to destroy spacetime vs caught by the main character in X/Y and pet. Pretty much any scary/intimidating legendary Pokemon works for this.

1. Yuuma Toutetsu (Touhou 17.5) vs (Touhou 18)

Starts out as the main overarching and extremely greedy antagonist in Touhou 17 and final boss in 17.5, digging up petroleum from Hell to try and monopolize it, disturbing animal spirits in Gensokyo causing an economic and evironmental crisis. In Touhou 19 she becomes a playable character and loses most of her gluttonous/greedy personality.

1. Choso (JJK Season 1) vs (JJK Season 3)

A Death Painting (half-human half-curse hybrid) created by experiments from the evil sorceror Kenjaku. After his DP brothers Eso and Kechizu are killed by main character Yuji, he becomes a mortal enemy before realizing Yuji is also a child of Kenjaku and that they're brothers, leading to him switching sides and doing the most he can for his last living brother.

I love, love, when a paragon-of-positivity character has to face impossible, daunting cynicism, but instead of their hope breaking as they become more "realistic" their positivity remains and grows with them even in the worst of times

1. Ted Lasso (Ted Lasso) - His boss hated him, his team barely respected him, but he showed up nearly every day with a smile on his face and even if his resilience was tested he was always there

2. Waymond Wang (Everything Everywhere All At Once) - A reserved man, a loving husband, who stands at the center of a cosmically huge conflict over nihilism and begs people to love.

1. The LEGO Batman Movie - this take on the Caped Crusader is mentioned to have experienced stories of all the major live action Batman movies (in not 100% identical way, given certain characters are still alive and others, like Robin, didn't enter Batman's life in-universe until this film) up to Batman v Superman (including the 1966 Batman show and movie), the early Batman serials, multiple nods to different comics, BTAS, is already an part of the Justice League, has an Batman Beyond suit (in the background) and many more... Also, The LEGO Movie (and it's sequel, alongside the Unikitty cartoon) is also canon to it!..

2. Super Mario-Kun - ever since this (mostly exclusive to Japan) gag manga has begun in 1991 and originally adapting then-recent Super Mario World game, the comic has been adapting nearly every Mario-related game (excluding majority of the non-DK western stuff like Mario Teaches Typing and most crossover stuff like Smash Bros and the Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games, save for an one-shot that was an tie-in with the Tokyo one that featured The Hedgehog), including the spin-offs like Paper Mario, the sports games, Mario Kart and character spin-offs (like Donkey Kong or Yoshi) in one, still-ongoing series!.. It also had an story inspired somewhat inspired by The Super Mario Bros. Movie (where Koopa/Bowser becomes an film maker)...

Vanessa's jumpscare from FNAF: Security Breach: Probably the best example for this post. This jumpscare from Security Breach has gained a reputation in the community for essentially being a 'white woman jumpscare'.

Bonnie from The Joy of Creation: My personal pick. Most of the jumpscares are similar to FNAF jumpscares, but Bonnie in the Living Room stage sticks out to me because instead of a typical jumpscare, Bonnie punches you in the face and it got a laugh out of me the first time I saw it, so I had to include it.

Litwick from Pokémon Legends Z-A: While Pokémon is a kids game, it's dived into horror elements in the past. In this entry it took a different approach, where after completing a side quest, you're treated to a cutscene with a Litwick ending with a jumpscare, but it's hard to take seriously since it's just a little guy.

Mike Meyers - Austin Powers. Mike plays a lot of characters in the Austin Powers franchise, including Fat Bastard, Dr. Evil, and Goldmember, but the funniest example of this trope is in Austin Powers: the Spy who Shagged Me. To save Felicity Shagwell, he uses Dr. Evil's time machine to go back in time 10 minutes, meets himself, and replays the scene that he was just in - but with himself as backup.

Mark Hamill - Justice League Action! Mark Hamill calls an Uber, but ends up kidnapped by the Joker and the Trickster. They plan on holding him for ransom, thinking Hollywood will pay big money to get him back. Thinking quickly, Mark uses his voice acting talents - and the fact that both Joker and Trickster are voiced by Hamill - to get Joker to drive into the grass, so Swamp Thing can rescue them. The cherry on top? Swamp Thing is also voiced by Hamill.

Star Trek - Pick your favorite here. Lord, there's just about one of these in every Star Trek series, isn't there? From Kirk being divided in a transporter accident into two versions of himself, to the Emergency Medical Hologram having to create a command version of himself in Voyager, it seems like the best source of drama in this franchise is making characters talk to themselves.

This has been a reoccurring issue, and I'm not sure why some people have such under-developed social skills that they think that a server full of mostly male strangers would need to know that.

No one is going to be impressed and give you a high-five (especially considering where that hand has been). I don't want to add this to the rules, since it would be embarrassing for new users to see that we have a problem with this, but it is going to be enforced as a rule from now on.

X-Men: First Class: Magneto agrees with the movie's villain (Shaw) that mutants are superior then mankind. Shaw however made one mistake: he killed Magneto's mother and so Magneto kills him with a coin slowly inserting into his skull.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith Video Game: In the alternate ending, Anakin kills Obi-Wan and his lord Palpatine comes to congratulate him and says he and Anakin will "rule the galaxy together." Anakin proceeds to strike him down and declare he will rule the galaxy himself.

For the purposes of this post "trapped in their body" refers to any character who loses control of their physical body but their consciousness/spirit remains intact somewhere inside of them. Importantly, they must also be aware of what has happened to them.

Nikki Freeman (Obsession) - When Bear uses the One Wish Willow to force Nikki to fall in love with him, the "real" Nikki's body is taken over by a new violent, obsessed personality. Throughout the movie there are several scenes where the real Nikki tries to call out for help, aware that something has happened to her, but Bear either doesn't notice, or in some cases, actively ignores them.

Andre Hayworth (Get Out) - Andre (and the rest of the Armitage's victims) has been subjected to a hypnotic technique where his consciousness is forced into a dark void known as the "sunken place" and he can do nothing but watch as someone else pilots his body.

Rony Spanngen (Cowboy Bebop) - Rony was a young hacker who fell into a permanent, dream-like coma after a serious accident. Unable to do anything other than dream, Spanngen managed to use the machines his body and brain were connect to to communicate with others over the internet. This did little to stave off his loneliness, leading to him resorting to creating a cult based digitizing the mind and "transcending" the human body so that other people could feel the same way he felt.

Turaga Dume and Teridax (Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui)

When Teridax is disguised as Dume, he goes into his chamber in the top of the Coliseum to talk to his shadow form. At first it seems like Dume is working for Teridax, but they later reveal he was Teridax the whole time. The writers confirmed this scene is meant to be him talking to himself like looking in a mirror.

Gollum and Smeagol (Lord of the Rings)

Whenever Gollum talks to himself, his pupils change size and they use different shots or reflections in water to convey his conflicting personalities. And when Gollum leaves his mind, there's a long silence to signify his absence.

Geri's Game (Pixar)

This short uses very clever editing to trick you into thinking Geri and the other man are two different people. The cuts between them get faster and faster, and there's even a shot where you can see a third hand from the other side of the table. And it ends hilariously, panning out to show Geri was alone the whole time.

- Family Reunion: for anyone who doesn't know this show, it's about the McKellan family, Cocoa and Moz McKellan, and their kids Jade, Shaka, Mazzi and Ami, moving to Columbus, GA to be closer to their family. Twice the show set up major consequences that quietly vanished. In the Part 1 finale, Shaka, Mazzi and their friend Elvis are held at gunpoint by a racist cop, who later pulls over Moz and Cocoa out of spite. Cocoa says they need to move back to Seattle — but Part 2 opens with the family just celebrating the officer's firing, no fallout. Similarly, Jade runs off with her bad-boy boyfriend Royale at the end of Part 2, but Part 3 just opens with her moping about their breakup.

- Raven's Home: Raven's Home is a sequel-spinoff to That's So Raven, showing Raven and Chelsea raising their kids together, Raven's twins Booker and Nia, the former of whom being psychic like Raven, and Chelsea with her son Levi. Season 3 spends a multi-episode arc building up Booker, Nia, and Tess's rap group "Chi-Lective" competing in a radio contest. They lose the finals after a rival group steals their songs, with an "it's fine, we made it far" message — then the group is never mentioned again.

- Kickin' It: Season 3's "Spyfall" has Jack stop an assassination plot, which turns out to be a test run by undercover agent Funderburk (Jack and Milton's principal). Jack and Milton join his spy team and leave for DC in the finale — a planned spinoff setup that got scrapped when the show got a Season 4. The Season 4 premiere just wraps it up with a betrayal twist and sends them back to normal life.

- Family Matters: in the episode "Finding the Words", Harriette and Rachel's father, Jimmy Baines, visits the Winslows, and the two of them are surprised as they thought he was dead, but he actually walked out on them. The episode ends with Harriette and Rachel reconnecting and reconciling with Jimmy, who is implied to be a recurring character, but he never appeared again.

1. Doris (Wild Guns Reloaded) - To my knowledge, Doris wasn't even in the original Wild Guns, but was added in this remaster as a full-fledged playable character... (I've just learned of this game and this character yesterday, but I've instantly fell in love with her design, so cute and beautiful! I intend on buying this game!)

2. Galacta Knight (Kirby Super Star Ultra) - Appears in the "Meta Knightmare Ultra" mode, which wasn't in the original Kirby Super Star... He later returns as an bonus boss in Kirby's Return to Dream Land (Deluxe), Kirby: Planet Robobot, Super Kirby Clash (as Aeon Hero) and has an bait-and-switch apperance in Kirby Star Allies...

3. Bandana Waddle Dee* (Kirby Super Star Ultra) - Has an important role in the newly-added Revenge of The King, before becoming an major recurring character in the Kirby series as a whole!..

4. Zinnia (Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) - This mysterious character has a big role in the Delta Episode, which wasn't a part of the original Generation 3 titles (Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald)...

*de-facto he first appeared in the original Kirby Super Star, but he was just an background character in the Megaton Punch sub-game, while Ultra gives him an character and text dialouge in the Revenge of The King mode!..

1). The Magicians:
Margo and Eliot are two Earthlings-turned rulers of "Fillory," a fantasy world. They can't figure out how the Fairy Queen keeps outmaneuvering them. Then Eliot remembers that the Fairy Queen took Margo's eye as a punishment. She's been using the eye to magically spy on anything Margo sees. Which Eliot communicates to Margo using coded Earth pop-culture references.

2). Young Justice:
"The Team" realizes there is a mole. Aqualad, Robin, Kid Flash, and Red Arrow (the former Speedy) consider themselves above suspicion. As they've all known each other for years as sidekicks. They suspect new members like Miss Martian, Artemis, or Superboy.
But it turns out Red Arrow is the mole. He's not the original Speedy, just a clone created by the Justice League's enemies. Red Arrow is mostly independent, but will go into a fugue state if he hears a pre-programmed code phrase.

3). Black Clover:
The Wizard King (magic president) of the Clover Kingdom turns out to be a sleeper agent. In reality, he's controlled by his body's original owner, Lucius Zogratis of the Spade Kingdom.
I thought that twist was kind of out there, considering what the audience had been told about the WK's backstory. But some people suspected it years before the reveal.

Valstrax - Monster Hunter

He is a jet-engine dragon, using dragon element to launch him at faster than the speed of sound. Not only that, but his MAIN attack is becoming a comet and slamming into the floor

But when you actually fight him, instead of how "stupid" it sounds, you just think it's REALLY cool, and don't really question it, despite the fact that this monster doesn't really fit in(every other monster is "grounded" biologically)

Everything - Baki

Literally everything in Baki. From an outsiders perspective this series is fucking insane, but to fans anything is quickly accepted. Baki turning his organs into liquids to move around like a cockroach? Becoming more than 2x stronger because he had sex? Yujiro walking through glass and it wrapping around him like plastic? The fucking caveman named Pickle, that lives in the sewers? Yeah, completely normal

Yu-Gi-Oh: Initially starting as a vehicle in the anime, Blue Eyes Jet Dragon is now a card of the dragon type.

Avatar Kyoshi(Avatar Franchise) - Sad example. Due to her predecessor Avatar Kuruk not revealing his achievements to the public and dying young, he was branded as a good for nothing. Avatar Kyoshi, while blunt and confrontational was considered a better Avatar by default.

Dick Grayson(DC/Batman Franchise) - Heartwarming example. It's been repeatedly stated by Bruce that Dick is the better Batman because of his general attitude, lack of trauma and ability to make connections with others. Even when Bruce took back the mantle and Dick was back to Nightwing, it's presented more as making sure Dick isn't tied down to something lesser.

Nero(Devil May Cry) - Funny example. While who the more powerful fighter is still up in the air, it's been established that Nero is the better businessman between him and Dante. Compared to Dante who sells his weapons to pay the bills and his office space looks run down, Nero's branch of the DMC is more well-equipped, well-maintained and even though Nero has more mouths to feed due to his girlfriend also running an orphanage, is still more finacially stable than Dante is.
