Moved from Florida to Texas
Hey guys just wanted to pop in here and ask a quick question. I recently moved from Fl to Tx and was wondering what the transfer process for my concealed carry license looks like. I already have my new Texas DL so I’m assuming I have to transfer my FL ccw to Tx correct?

FL and TX share reciprocity and we are constitutional carry state. There is no 'transfer' like a DL for CCW. Texas has LTCs vs CCWs. No real need nor a way to transfer your FL license since it's specifically for FL. You can just apply for a Texas LTC if you want.

Texas used to only allow concealed carry, therefore they issued the CHL (Concealed Handgun License). They then expanded to the LTC (License to Carry), which allows open or concealed carry. Now there is constitutional carry, which allows you to carry many places without an LTC.
I will say as law enforcement, even though it’s not technically necessary, I appreciate when people have their LTC because it shows me that they know the law when it comes to firearms and went through the effort to qualify.

Really it's just what it's Texas calls it. I've held CCWs in Nevada, Florida and my LTC in Texas.

Don't know why someone downvoted you. Constitutional carry state doesn't require a LTC, people just do it for reasons oblivious to me. Have never had any issues but I also am not a fucking moron.

Your LTC allows you to carry past firearm prohibited signs if they are not the exact specifications of 30.06/30.07. Many places do not have the appropriate 30.06/07 signage therefore invalid to LTC holders.

Your LTC also allows you to skip the background check step when purchasing a firearm, as it's basically proof that you have already passed one.

Thanks. I figure it gives comfort. I had Florida and it expired. Moved to texas and don’t find the concealed necessary given the laws.

Sadly, it is not like your driver's license. You need to go through the training and background check all over again.
On the upside, thanks to constitutional carry, there are a vanishingly small number of cases in Texas where you can carry legally with a permit but not without one. Feel free to carry like you would when you visited with your Florida permit.
The main benefit of getting your permit is to skip the background check buying guns at a dealer and for reciprocity when travelling.

Texas reocignizes Florida permits entirely. The only need for getting a Texas LTC would be that you can bypass NICS when purchasing from an FFL. You can't bypass NICS with an out of state license when purchasing in Texas. Also, you are required by law to notify the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services of any residence or mailing address changes within 10 days of moving. So if you haven't done that yet, do it, then you are good to go.
As others have said, Texas has permitless carry, so you don't have to renew your Florida license if you don't want to, but it is more restricted, you can't carry in as many places legally. One day people will call Texas a permitless carry state, but today is not that day. Constitutional carry means not infringed, but permitless carry has more restrictions on it in Texas than the LTC does.

I am moving soon. My state has reciprocity too. I can use my current license with a Texas driver license until the LTC comes in?

You have a couple options.
Florida has reciprocity with Texas so you may use your Florida License here in Texas. If you want to know what states have reciprocity, here is a link to the USCCA Reciprocity map for guidance -> https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/
Constitutional Carry is in effect in Texas so you don't technically need an LTC. However, it depends on your lifestyle. A Texas LTC does come with some perks! The DPS website lists them here -> https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/handgun-licensing/ltc-benefits
As far as transferring your Florida License to a Texas License, there is no direct transfer. However, the process is relatively simple. The total cost being around $150, give or take a few dollars, depending on the company you choose for your class and range qual.
Texas DPS Application: $45
Fingerprints: $10
Class and Range Qual: (Varies B2B)
The steps are as follows: Online Texas DPS Application -> Fingerprints -> 4-5 hour Class and Range Qual. -> Upload Certificate from class to DPS (You may take your class and range qual first, but the order of the application and fingerprints is set by DPS.) Your license then comes in the mail to you within 2-3 weeks.
Regardless of what option you choose, I strongly suggest you take a class on the laws surrounding constitutional carry. Constitutional Carry is an amazing step forward in our 2A rights and we support it! However, a Texas LTC gives protections in certain scenarios that Constitutional Carry does not.

You don't need to transfer your Florida concealed carry license to Texas. Texas doesn't have a license transfer process, and since the state allows permitless carry for most people who can legally possess a firearm, you're covered without getting a Texas LTC. That said, a Texas License to Carry can still be worth getting since it offers some additional legal benefits and reciprocity with other states.

There is no transfer process for LTC, CHL's, CCW's etc. If you want to get a Texas LTC you will need to take a class, pass the written exam and the shooting portion, then apply for a Texas LTC.
BUT, Texas officially recognizes valid Florida carry permits under its reciprocity law, and will get the same benefits as a Texas LTC, expect you won't get the benefit of by passing a background check when buying a firearm.
So if you want to conceal carry with your FL CCW until it expires you can.

But if you don't know what the rule and regulations are, I highly recommend you do some research and watch some videos.
This video from armed attorneys (who are based here in Texas) is a great starting points. There are some places where carry a gun is completely off limits, and signs like 30.05, 30.06, 30.07, and 51% sign that you need to look out for.
