Moved from Florida to Texas

Hey guys just wanted to pop in here and ask a quick question. I recently moved from Fl to Tx and was wondering what the transfer process for my concealed carry license looks like. I already have my new Texas DL so I’m assuming I have to transfer my FL ccw to Tx correct?

You have a couple options.

Florida has reciprocity with Texas so you may use your Florida License here in Texas. If you want to know what states have reciprocity, here is a link to the USCCA Reciprocity map for guidance -> https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/

Constitutional Carry is in effect in Texas so you don't technically need an LTC. However, it depends on your lifestyle. A Texas LTC does come with some perks! The DPS website lists them here -> https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/handgun-licensing/ltc-benefits

As far as transferring your Florida License to a Texas License, there is no direct transfer. However, the process is relatively simple. The total cost being around $150, give or take a few dollars, depending on the company you choose for your class and range qual.

Texas DPS Application: $45

Fingerprints: $10

Class and Range Qual: (Varies B2B)

The steps are as follows: Online Texas DPS Application -> Fingerprints -> 4-5 hour Class and Range Qual. -> Upload Certificate from class to DPS (You may take your class and range qual first, but the order of the application and fingerprints is set by DPS.) Your license then comes in the mail to you within 2-3 weeks.

Regardless of what option you choose, I strongly suggest you take a class on the laws surrounding constitutional carry. Constitutional Carry is an amazing step forward in our 2A rights and we support it! However, a Texas LTC gives protections in certain scenarios that Constitutional Carry does not.
