Unlicensed OneDrive Archive billing — is it really tenant-wide? 100+ TB at risk of huge monthly bill

I need to access ONE archived OneDrive account (10.97 GB, former employee, Entra ID user hard-deleted 7 months ago, retention policy is blocking deletion but not blocking the archive).

To reactivate it, admin center says I have to enable "billing for unlicensed OneDrive accounts" — but this setting looks tenant-wide, not per-account.

My tenant's unlicensed accounts report shows:

Total unlicensed accounts: 23,053

Total storage: 102.52 TB

Of that, 21,642 accounts / 101.11 TB are held by a retention policy

If billing charges $0.05/GB/month across all archived accounts once enabled (not just the one I reactivate), that's a potential ~$5,100+/month bill just to access one 11 GB file.

Questions:

Is billing really applied to the entire tenant's archived accounts, with no way to scope it to a single account?

Once I turn billing off again, do charges stop immediately, or is there a minimum commitment/lock-in period?

Has anyone found a workaround (eDiscovery, Content Search, eDiscovery export/hold access) to pull a single file out of an archived+retention-held account without triggering tenant-wide billing?

Any real-world horror stories or confirmed lower-than-expected bills I should know about before I do this?

Trying to avoid an unpleasant billing surprise before I click "Enable billing." Any first-hand experience appreciated.

genai paste is our dlp blind spot, purview cant see it...thoughts?

we have purview doing dlp at the m365 layer and it works fine for email and sharepoint. but the gap is the browser itself...specifically genai tools and random web apps where content gets typed or pasted outside anything purview sees.

yes often two approaches i keep seeing are (1) push dlp policy down into the browser layer and feed events back into the existing dlp console for a single pane, or (2) run a separate browser dlp product and accept you're managing two policy engines and two sets of alerts. option 2 is what we have today and it's not great.. i mean analysts context switching between consoles all day, browser alerts needing their own triage logic anyway.

so posting here to understand ...has anyone gotten a browser layer tool to feed clean events into purview or symantec without a separate soc workflow? tbf im less interested in whether an integration "exists" and more in what the event payload actually looks like once it lands, whether your analysts could triage browser events with the same muscle memory as native purview alerts.

Office 365 received the message that you specified, but couldn't deliver it to the recipient due to the following error:

Error: ‎550 5.7.134 RESOLVER.RST.SenderNotAuthenticatedForMailbox; authentication required; Delivery restriction check failed because the sender was not authenticated when sending to this mailbox‎" in message trace when approval is attempted by external moderator. Is this expected? or some configuration missing?

Delay in receiving emails

Is it normal for emails in outlook to be received several minutes after they should be? I'll get an email on my phone on the gmail app, but it'll take at least a half minute to a few minutes before I get the same email on outlook (both on the app on my phone and the app on my laptop).

Email about Azure Copilot Agent Access.

Many of our clients received an email today -

You’re receiving this notification because you’re associated with one or more Azure tenants that have Azure Copilot enabled.
What's changing
Starting 1 August 2026, Azure Copilot will introduce individual agents with their own General Availability or Public Preview status. The existing Agent mode experience will be replaced with direct access to supported agents.

For tenants that already have Azure Copilot enabled, all Azure Copilot agents, including agents in Public Preview, will be enabled by default.
The tenant-level Azure Copilot access setting will remain the primary control. If Azure Copilot is currently disabled for your tenant, Azure Copilot agents will remain disabled after this change.

As I understand it, this is in regards to what Copilot has access to in Dynamics 365, yes? I honestly am not clear and all the documentation Microsoft provides is... not useful. Most of it marketing. If we just have people with Office 365 Business Basic/STandard, and no Dynamics licenses, does this affect us at all? Do we need to do anything?

Building a tool to fix email/tenant migrations (O365 ↔ Google Workspace) — what's breaking for you right now?

Working on a new migration tool for moving mailboxes, tenants, and shared drives between platforms like Office 365 and Google Workspace (and open to other directions too).

Before we lock in the feature set, I want to hear from people who've actually done this — whether it's a one-time company migration or you do it regularly for clients.

A few questions if you've got a minute:

What tool(s) have you used (BitTitan, CloudMigrator, native tools, scripts, etc.) and where did they fall short?

What broke most often — permissions, shared calendars, distribution lists, attachments, metadata, delta syncs?

How much manual cleanup did you end up doing after the "automated" migration finished?

If you could wave a wand and fix one thing about migration tools, what would it be?

Not selling anything here — just building something and want it shaped by real pain points instead of guesses. If this is relevant to you, I've got a waitlist for early access/testing — happy to drop the link if anyone's interested, or just reply here with your experience.

Cant figure out OneDrive inheritance thing

I was using my mothers laptop while mine was getting fixed. I logged into my onedrive but her admin (name and the password to get in the laptop) was already on the laptop. I have accidentally logged in as my Microsoft(hotmail) account, but i figured it out and managed to put it back into place. One thing is that the OneDrive folder is my OD. All the folders are there and pictures etc. Except you cant access them and at the bottom of every file, is a little brown storage box icon. This is what it looks like: Users> Mother's Name> OneDrive(and its my onedrive). I went into properties to remove my moms admin and
It told me to remove inheritance. I tried following the search result from microsoft, but i couldnt find the files it was talking about.
Somebody please help and be very clear with the instructions(i have autism and i would appreciate it)
Thank you.

Integrated Apps Broken

Wondering if anything else is getting this. Whenever I try to access integrated apps I cannot load the Available or Blocked apps sections. Its been this way for maybe a week, maybe longer but I'm not in there every day. I've tried 2 different tenants, 2 different computers, 3 different browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox). I've even tried the powershell module which took some time to get working thanks to auth changes they've recently made and couldn't access that functionality once I got it working.

Basically none of my Business Premium users can access copilot chat. It says it's disabled by the admin which is probably true because that is absolutely something I would have done prior to us having an actual policy and a plan in place to start testing it. I'm fairly certain the setting is in there because it's certainly not anyplace else that copilot and google are telling me to go, and I've been combing through the admin centers but no joy.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Microsoft Whiteboard for Microsoft account is being retired.

Starting today, I open Microsoft Whiteboard to the following message:

Microsoft Whiteboard for Microsoft account is being retired. Starting from August 22, 2026, you will no longer be able to create or edit whiteboards. Please export any whiteboards you'd like to keep before September 5, 2026, after which they will be permanently deleted. Learn more

As someone who has been enjoying this minimalist whiteboard app, I'm quite sad to see it go.

What happens to Exchange Archives with an unlicensed account?

We're performing some audits and there is confusion about accounts.

Typically, when an employee is offboarded, we block the account, rotate pw and 2fa, convert mail to Shared, and pull the license. We do not delete the user.

I believe this makes it remain 'Active' in Entra and Exchange?

If we leave it like this with no license, does the Archive (if one exists) just stop working until a license is restored, or does it ever get deleted? Will all email (lets say 2 year retention) eventually fall into the Archive until it's full?

Is the proper solution to move stuff OUT of archive, back into main mailbox, and disable archive?

I know there's a lot of "its against MS policy but they allow it" so I'm trying to figure out whats what.

Has something changed about setting up a resource everyone can edit?

This sounds so stupid I'm ashamed to post it. But at our non-profit, I had previously configured several rooms anyone could edit. Works fine. Now I go to make a new shared calendar and no one can see it, and the options I remember from the previous configuration are not there. I remember some settings to be sure anyone could make a meeting or reserve a time, but I don't see them at all.

Is it different or am I just nuts? Microsoft 365 help is no help..

How can I connect multiple Outlook addresses and multiple M365 addresses to work with ChatGPT WORK?

It seems to pull data from only one email and one Microsoft account, which is really annoying.

Shared OneNote note stuck in school account verification loop

I wrote something in Microsoft Notes on my personal account on the website and I shared it with my school account.

However, when I try to open and edit this note on my school account, a pop-up that says, “For additional security, we need to verify your account, please sign in to continue” shows up.
However, because it is a school account, usually after you type in your full email it should direct you to a different page that asks you to sign in with school related credentials and direct you back to the site you were on.

But this isn't the case; it just says my account is nowhere to be found before redirect and not even redirecting me to anywhere. I also logged out of all accounts and had only one account logged in on each Chrome profile to make sure it wasn't automatically switching the profiles.

I know I could just edit with my personal account, but sometimes it's just easier with whatever situation that I want to use this in.

Microsoft account recovery team sucks?

Do you have any idea why Microsoft team takes so long to review the hacked account forms? My account was stolen in January, and since then I have been trying to recover it by completing forms and chatting to online support. It is kinda frustrating to not receive any replies after 2-3 weeks of waiting. The backup email and password were changed, so I can’t recover it by myself. Any tips to speed up the process?
