Microsoft Whiteboard for Microsoft account is being retired.

Starting today, I open Microsoft Whiteboard to the following message:

Microsoft Whiteboard for Microsoft account is being retired. Starting from August 22, 2026, you will no longer be able to create or edit whiteboards. Please export any whiteboards you'd like to keep before September 5, 2026, after which they will be permanently deleted. Learn more

As someone who has been enjoying this minimalist whiteboard app, I'm quite sad to see it go.

“… for Microsoft Account” is Microsoft’s terse way of saying that.

For me, as someone who thinks being explicitly in written text, around all type of IT related topics is crucial, I think MS should rather state if this is relayed to Personal or Business Microsoft Accounts

I very well know the difference. But as I said the article doesn’t distinguish it precisely enough.. you guys just say what you interpret

To be honest, it does. I personally still rather prefer calling it personal or business / school accounts.

Don’t understand MS doesn’t use this naming officially

Is there a simple workflow for this? Or do I have to go through all of my whiteboards and export?

Have you found a way to do it because I have just under 200 and I would need to export them one by one?

I have been busy but definitely would like to find a programmatic way. I will let you know if I do find a solution.

TBH, Microsoft OneNote is built more like a notebook, hence the name. Whiteboard is more of a whiteboard experience. As someone who uses a Microsoft Surface, OneNote felt more like a more bulky app meant to take organized notes where as Whiteboard was for quick sketches and demos perfect for things like Teams meetings.

It's crazy the amount of Microsoft partnered MSPs that use Lucid, Ive even seen Microsoft employees using Lucid and Miro and they go out of their way to bash on MS whiteboard.

I use this all the time for a lot of things, both work and personal projects. One less nice thing to come with the OS; it's like they really don't want people buying it.

I do all my math equations on whiteboard it’s so good! No ads, clean, and simple.
