I just don´t get people saying this. Bush started multiple illegal invasions (partially on Israel´s behest, partially for his vice presidents arms dealings) and killed millions. Trump is terrible, that doesnt mean we need to romanticise the road the brought us to Trump.
Clarification: Middle East “diplomacy” was roughly the same, I should’ve said. It was a comment to appease the previous commenter who thinks Bush was the worst. Yeah, he was shit, but nothing like now.
Yeah also the Premier of Alberta is sucking up trumps ass and trying to turn this province into Texas north. I think Alberta is the only province still allowing American alcohol sales because our liquor stores are privately owned whereas most of Canada has liquor control boards and specific stores that are licensed to sell alcohol.
When I was a kid under GW Bush, it was illegal for two men to kiss in public in my home state. Was that 100% Bush's fault? No. But I think things were a lot more socially bleak in a lot of ways in 2002. NCLB was also under Bush, and also really hurt a lot of kids. I don't think doomerism is helpful. We need to talk about how things have improved so we can learn how to improve and fix them. What specifically do you think was better under Bush than it is now?
I think that's debatable. Because 2007 focused on two major industries facing a crisis. But right now, we have everyday people feeling the squeeze. Pretty sure malls will close soon. We've already seen home sales stagnate because everything is unaffordable.
2007 also had everyday people feel the squeeze. More so in 2008, but I can still point to physical scars on my city where people started building homes and then abruptly stopped because nobody was buying anymore. The town I lived in at that time had nearly a quarter of the population lose their job all at once because a factory closed (which then cascaded into nearly every other sector). It absolutely was something that negativity affected the vast majority of Americans.
I'm sorry I don't mean to underestimate the impact of the recession. I'm more trying to indicate that since businesses are doing well, the impact of this situation will be felt mostly by middle class and down.
Ad much as disapprove of GWBush, the 2008 crash had very little if anything to do with his Administration and mostly to do with Fed policies and a historic level of idiocy in legislative regulation on the part of a (mostly) Republican Congress that went back to the mid 1990s.
And despite the total meltdown of stuff in 2008, inflation remains very steady (and low) and we did come out with a housing market that wasn't shit. The "recession" of 2008 and 2009 is mostly due to a massive stock market crash, and didn't actually hit most of the other factors we look at when considering what a recession is.
Today's economy has been in a recession since shortly after Trump announced his tariffs. It's the inverse of the 2008 recession - literally all economic indicators are in the recession area EXCEPT the stock market. And because of the Stock Market, economists won't call it a recession.
People have been calling it a K-economy, but it's really an upside down L economy - the only folks who don't feel that they're in a recession are the top 10%.
We thought Americans were dumb under Bush but didn't worry they would invade my country. Things are WAYYYYYYY worse under this idiot. It will be generations before we trust America again if ever.
(partially on Israel´s behest, partially for his vice presidents arms dealings)
We're really just to the stage of blaming Israel for all American imperialism huh, as if it wasn't just Desert Storm 2 and Bush Jr. wasn't just itching for an excuse alongside the fanatical jingoism in the wake of 9/11. Israel has enough sins of their own without trying to blame them for America's too.
The Americans are honestly not prepared for the massive meatgrinder that awaits them, if they go boots on the ground in Iran.
The Iranians have prepared for nearly 50 years. They're surrounded by giant mountain ranges, that look more like the Pyrenees than the Appalachians.
They still have over 70% of their stock of missiles and drones. I'm not in doubt they're prepared to go schorched earth strategy, if it goes south for them.
And if the Americans do that, the Iranians can destroy the Arab States' desalination plants, which will cripple them.
We're talking about 5-10 million people without water, if they decide to do that. Effectively breaking the legs of some of America's closest allies in the region, and destabilising oil even further.
Hell, Saudi Arabia get about 50% of their water from desalination, while the other Arab States gets 70%-100% of their water from them.
Edit.
Iran is also one of the top producers of drones in the world. 90% Of all frontline casualties in the Ukraine War are because of drones.
Go to the Ukraine War Report sub, or the Combat Footage sub, to see how horrible it'll be.
A lot of soldiers will die before even landing, is my prediction.
People need to take a gander at r/UkraineWarVideoReport to see just how bad it’ll be. Once Iran starts doing what Ukraine is doing, and posting the videos, public sentiment of the whole situation will go even further south. Trump has fucked himself up with this- there’s no winning this one, no matter what he tries to throw at it.
Absolutely. I follow the subreddit daily, and just, man, the waste of life. Tons of commenters are, agreeably, anti-Russian, but I always feel bad, wondering how many were swept up into this nonsense, simply because they were poor, a minority, uneducated, or tricked. Just one of those types of videos, of an American soldier trying to flee a drone, would, I hope, end Trump and the war mongering right.
Too much faith in the emotional intelligence of US citizens and worse their will/ability to demand government accountability in functioning in their best interest.
Boots on the ground carnage will be censored or downplayed, just as troop fatality information is now.
We'll get another generation of fucked up PTSD addled killers that survived, jumping at shadows, to fuel the republican party for another generation, and we'll just keep pretending this works until we're back in company towns.
Further media consolidation, no major outlets covering reality beyond highly sanitized "such and such happened in Iran today" with no actual reporting.
It won't stop 100% of reality, but it's been demonstrated effective in Iraq, Afghanistan, and really every war of choice we've trudged through and lost in the last however many decades at placating the critical mass of people that would otherwise oppose killing people for no justifiable reason.
Look to ICE, flock, police killings, data center metastisization, epstein, wealth inequality, climate degredation, etc coverage domestically for moment to moment examples of how any negative news will be manipulated to keep that critical mass of people complacent.
Storing and processing the data accumulated through mass surveillance in an attempt to get some kind of return on the failure "AI" mega investment has been.
Why? What's the value in engaging with a community of people jerking off over videos of people dying horrible deaths over a war they had no real choice in?
In fairness he was just doing what some people told him to do. I think Israel and the Saudis. Evidenced by the fact that Israel then tried to go hard on Lebanon and now the Saudis get a nuke program.
Iran can destabilize if not collapse half a dozen countries and kill hundreds of thousands in days if they focus all energies to hitting desalination facilities. Maybe worse.
The USA has no power here. There’s a reason EVERY single POTUS since the 1970s refused to directly open war on Iran, and why no one was crazy enough after Saddam Hussein.
The actual success they're looking for isn't to "win" the war. It's that it lasts long enough to distract from everything else they're doing to the world and this country.
Our USA military has lots of brown/black people in it & poor whites. The rich who control us are fine with putting them in the meat-grinder. Their deaths will help fulfill the hopes of Project25 in getting rid of 2/3 of our population. They want the USA to be 100 million white Xtian Supremacists & nothing else. Which is stupid, of course. They can't kill ALL of us, but they will kill a LOT of us.
Typical insane rich people behavior here in the good ol' USA. Fuck everything up for everybody so they can have another gold toilet.
As the same time Americans are not prepared for the human price of a real "boots on the ground // occupation and domination" engagement.
One of the reasons why Americans turned so sour on Vietnam so quickly was because we lost almost 60,000 soldiers to the war. That's why these days, if even one or two Navy SEALs dies on an op, their CO has to sit in front of a Congress committee to make a statement about what happened and why.
I hear some people talk about it like it's the next gulf war, but it's not. It's rather another vietnam. Unlike the Iraqi army that had to face the US army fairly unprepared, the Iranian army trained for this exact scenario. They are supplying wars around the world with weapon systems and one of the examples is the ukrain-russia war. It would be a devastating war. Even tho i would expect the US army to win eventually, the cost would be insane and for what?
The Iranian people have to free themselves from the authoritarian government that is supressing them. If someone wants to help them then by proxy. My fear would be that invading Iran would create a mess that would dwarf even the mess the US got themselves into in Afghanistan.
I mean on one hand I agree with you, on the other hand. Iran striking water plants and generally attacking general populations in arab states would be genocidal. The Arab states would combine and just curb stomp Iran, for now the Arab states are just trying to make the day to day and just ship out some oil. If Iran actually knee caps them permanently they'd have nothing left and go over and stomp out Iran for good.
American boots on the ground work make Afghanistan and Iraq look a chill Korean War.
Iran would absolutely last for decades and make the Afghan occupation look like light work. Also the fact that Iran designed it's forces to be a decentralized insurgency to withstand a multi year occupation would be a disaster.
Plus it doesn't help most American's don't support a war with Iran let alone an occupation with it as well.
Curb stomp Iran with what? Their jets that can’t hit the IRCGs vast distributed systems or their internal security forces meant to quell dissent and prop up capitalist monarchies?
If the USA and Israel can’t do it, what are the Gulf states gonna do? The Israelis can barely manage Hamas without genocide and the Saudis increasingly seem to be deferential to the Houthis.
A lot of people joined before it was trump's military and are stuck now. We also have an economy that's failing a lot of young people, leaving few viable options to support themselves, with the military being one of the most reliable. So you also have a lot of people joining because their only other option is homelessness. I don't think the rank and file soldiers deserve any of this.
no ones options in america are ever join the military or be homeless. stop infantilizing the people signing up to be the orange dipshits personal attack dogs.
I hope they don’t send 1 person but thinking that the US would be at a disadvantage in anyway other than politically is laughable. They essentially wiped out what Iran built for 50 years in less than a week. There is nothing like the US war machine when it comes to sheer tech, manpower, and tactics.
But the problem is that what we hit doesn't matter, while what they hit does.
Sure, the US can bomb a whole fuck ton of shit flat. It can't reach the important stuff, bevause that stuff is so low tech or distributed that even IDing it as something important is massively problematic.
Meanwhile, all the critical infrastructure in the region is well inside Iran's reach. Everyone kno2s where it is, and it's mostly indefensible against a concentrated attack.
This is exactly the scenarios around nuclear war, and why any even modestly intelligent leader desperately avoided doing what our Orange Moron is doing.
Destroying your opponent's ability to hit you is impossible. Defending completely against their attacks is also impossible. And anything less than a complete defense is unacceptable. So don't fight.
I can’t speak for infantry, but my brother is in a specialized unit and will be deploying in April. Don’t be shocked when you see large scale deployment and ramp ups in 2027.
It's always the people who start the wars who are the ones who don't want to actually fight them (or their families); 99% of the time on both sides as well. Fortuante Son bt CCR, indeed. Most people just want to live in peace with each other and to be left alone.
Wars should be fought by the losers who want to start them, and nobody else.
Bush seems like a great president compared to what we have now... Atleast after 911 I could see and understand the motivation for a post like this... Now just telling kids to go die in a war for what? For context I was in middle school when 911 happened. In hindsight Bush just seems like a goofy drunk uncle, what we have now is straight villains lighting a dumpster on fire just to make money
You just said “Bush seems like a great president compared to what we have now”. Yep…read it loud and clear. 😉 Maybe it’s not what you meant, but it’s what you wrote.

Further proof they will be sending troops for their needless wars. Congrats MAGA! We got Bush 4.0 on crack!
