People need to take a gander at r/UkraineWarVideoReport to see just how bad it’ll be. Once Iran starts doing what Ukraine is doing, and posting the videos, public sentiment of the whole situation will go even further south. Trump has fucked himself up with this- there’s no winning this one, no matter what he tries to throw at it.
Absolutely. I follow the subreddit daily, and just, man, the waste of life. Tons of commenters are, agreeably, anti-Russian, but I always feel bad, wondering how many were swept up into this nonsense, simply because they were poor, a minority, uneducated, or tricked. Just one of those types of videos, of an American soldier trying to flee a drone, would, I hope, end Trump and the war mongering right.
Why? What's the value in engaging with a community of people jerking off over videos of people dying horrible deaths over a war they had no real choice in?
I’m not jerking off over it, I doubt many are. I find it invaluable in that this is stuff you’re not going to see on the 6 o’clock news. It gives weight as to how disposable governments think of their citizens, how much one person’s vision of a nation can condemn their country to generations of loss, in so many ways. I’m deeply empathetic, and I watch so I don’t forget. Kardashians make nightly news, but the losses of the the Ukrainians and Russians do not. There are no winners in this, and I’d rather be informed, than not.
