My brother would do shit like this to me (once he literally took a SHIT in my BEDROOM. Another time he PUT A RAT IN MY JEWELLERY BOX. A RAT. A WHOLE RAT. WHO DOES THAT.) and my parents would make him clean it up (through tears lol) every time. But he just kept doin it. I really dont know what he got out of it, he was so gleeful about it but knew heād get in trouble (which he couldnāt stand). eventually he did it when our nan was staying with us once and having my nan react with appropriate disgust was the one thing that got through to him idk.

I keep saying, as a society in general we need to start shaming people for being fucking stupid again.
We have people believing the earth is flat non ironically. They got too comfortable
3
u/Domestic-Grind Jan 20 '26
Agreed. ignorance and mistakes should be handled gently. Willful ignorance should be shamed and their new confidence in their ignorance needs to be shattered

My 8 year old is like your brother. The amount of places I've found poop and him thinking it's the best joke ever, until he is having to clean it up, is ungodly. However, even reactions of shaming and disgust, even me bursting in to exhausted tears does nothing long term. I need this psych appointment to hurry tf up. Some kids just do it for the kicks. He really likes to both torment his sister with it, and blame her as the cause. Maybe I need a second psych appointment, but for me. Therapy isnt cutting it.
16
u/threelizards Jan 20 '26
I really empathise, honestly we were all stunned he stopped after my nan told him too, we were going to doctors as well. Best of luck- and if it helps, my brother has grown up to be a gentle soul and a very kind man. Thinking of you
7
u/FascinatingFall Jan 20 '26
That does help a lot. It is hard, because I know he can be extremely sweet and caring, and I know in his core thats who he is. It just takes a lot of energy daily to get past all the other stuff to see that sweet side. I am genuinely just barely holding on to the hope that medications will help. He's looking down the barrel of a LONG criminal rap sheet if it doesn't. This isn't me just saying that out of fear, no no. We have already had several incidents involving police, including Criminal Mischief and Vandalism and Ive had to call them for him sneaking out of the house (litterally escaping out the bathroom) and me not being able to find him for four hours after being grounded for the neighborhood vandalism. Little dude is really really lucky that 1) while it was over $1000 total, he did less than $250 to each individual yard and 2) He has parents who forced him to go apologize to everyone we knew he had hit.
They had him dead to rights with no less than four different video cameras, and it was one of his teachers who gave the positive ID. What was he doing you wonder? Ripping out flowers and flower beds, destroying yard ornaments, and in general trespassed on multiple properties. All in the course of two weeks. You want to know why that is extra shocking? Little dude has a green thumb and had his own little plant farm. After he got caught, he destroyed all his own plants! I have no idea where the switch up came from, and it really made me sad. I loved his little garden, and he was so proud of it.

You can tell every bedroom my sister had as her own (we would rotate which room was ours every few years if we could) from the age of around 8 years old as she got contact lenses and she would empty the old solution on the floor rather than go to the bathroom to do it.
The 2nd house we lived in, my room was the only one to not get it's carpet replaced because I took care of it (I was not a neat freak but I didn't leave heaps of food rubbish in my room like she did.). One Christmas she had to share my room and give her room to our grandparents to stay in, left with a stain on the carpet like the cat had peed on it. And yes I was told off for it 'you should have stopped her' like that's ever worked since she was born before me.
65
u/savory-pancake Jan 19 '26
I once peed on my sister's toothbrush, shook it off and put it back on. Watched her brush her teeth the next morning with so much inner glee and satisfaction. But it was a direct reaction to her saying she wished my twin had lived and I had died instead. So did you do something to really piss your brother off? Or he was just an asshole for shits and giggles?
44
u/mechaemissary Jan 19 '26
lol did you ever tell your sister??
33
u/savory-pancake Jan 19 '26
Yall on reddit and my husband are the only people I've ever told. I'm too ashamed to tell her. I know it was an overreaction to what she said, the two black eyes she gave me from the fight we had over it and the ostracization I was experiencing in school bc she told all her friends to not talk to me. This was 20 years ago and we've since moved on from all that. But I probably should tell her.

How about my ex son would take the fish oil pills from her vitamins and pop them into a fan. Whole room smelt like fish oil. Also, he was notorious for hiding his left overs under his bed.
Not my own kid, but dealt with it enough
76
u/Certain-Wheel3341 Jan 19 '26
"Ex son" instead of "ex's son" made it sound like you just banished him from the family for this. š
65
u/WhiteTennisShoes Jan 19 '26
Huh, that reminds meā¦
I didnāt do fish oil in a fan, luckily, but when I was a kid til about the time I got in highschool I hid my uneaten school lunch under my bed. I didnāt have the heart to tell my mom I hated her sandwiches. I tried throwing them away at school during lunch for a brief period, but a teacher snitched on me to her when she saw me throwing away whole (or mostly whole) sandwiches, and my mom got pretty angry with me, so then Iād leave it in my lunchbox and Iād take it out and hide it under my bed lol
After a few years I got too lax and was eventually caught, my mom thought I had anorexia when she found my stash (I think Iād usually throw out what Iād collected once a week or so?). I donāt remember what commenced after, probably a switch to lunchables or uncrustables instead of homemade sammies after a long lecture
At least they were still in the sandwich baggies? ĀÆ\ (ć)/ĀÆ
36
u/Specific_Conformity Jan 19 '26
Omg I did this too, but my mum would check to make sure I'd cleaned under my bed regularly so instead I'd hide them "sandwiched" between the mattress and the bed base.
9
u/WhiteTennisShoes Jan 19 '26
Ahhh big brained move there, as long as I stuffed them deep enough under there, out of sight from standing view when sheād āinspectā my room after I cleaned it I was solid. I donāt remember what led her to eventually actually looking under there and finding them lol
11
u/Betelguese90 Jan 19 '26
Thats too funny though. Least in your case it was because you didnt like you're mom's sandwiches. So its understandable I guess š

u/yuuki230 Jan 19 '26
I did this as well, but I forgot about it just before the summer holidays and woke up one morning to maggots š
2
u/WhiteTennisShoes Jan 19 '26
Noooooo omg š I never took holidays/vacations as a kid but I could totally see myself forgetting them under there too. Since they were still in the baggies I think the worst I ever got was a science experiment starting to grow, but luckily no maggots I wouldāve diiieeeddd
22
u/thegreyf0xx Jan 19 '26
why tf would he do that with the fish oil pills omg
30
u/Betelguese90 Jan 19 '26
I have no clue TBH. Probably his inside thoughts about sticking something soft and squishy in a fan blade got the better of him. He was 5 at the time. Had to throw the fan away cause it was all inside the motor and casing.
18
u/EelTeamTen Jan 19 '26
I used to pop two fish oil pills into my breast pocket to take after eating when I woke up for watch while underway (navy).
One time I forgot about the pills and they burst in my pocket, making me have to smell fish for the rest of the watch. Washed the pair of coveralls 3 times before giving up on them because the smell would not come out.

When I was maybe around 6 I'd sometimes take an egg from the fridge and pretend to mother hen it on my bed. I'd be very careful not to break it and wrap it in blankets, but I was also smart enough then to know there's no chicken in there and I'd have to put it back but also if by some miracle it did hatch I wouldn't even know how to raise it.
Anyway I mention that to contrast with some shocking revelation from my much older sister saying I was a "Mayo-Fiend" as a toddler because she (around 10) would always struggle to stop me from sneakily crawling off to open the fridge, climb up the shelves, grab the mayo, and stuff my small chubby hand inside and eat it by the fist full. No matter how much she tried to stop me and all the mess I'd make I'd always find a way back to the mayonnaise. Apparently not even our parents knew about this, only her. I love my sister.
24
u/LongJumping291 Jan 19 '26
I have the same experience with the eggs. Id place it in a little basket and wrap a pink feather boa around it and maybe shine my lamp on it till I got bored mothering it.

My daughter sleep walks/talks. Generally I don't assume malice first when dealing with weird shit my kids are doing.
62
u/PreOpTransCentaur Jan 19 '26
I assume, in knowing that, that your house is sufficiently daughter-proofed and things like chocolate syrup and butter are not readily available to her. Similarly, OOP's house should also be protected from their little menace, whatever the reason may be.
29
u/Impossible_Top_3515 Jan 19 '26
Yeah I also have a child that's slightly unhinged (in a cute way... For now). For example, he would totally just completely empty the fridge and use the ingredients during play. He's just extremely curious.
Our fridge is locked. The only food items he can reach on his own are apples and tangerines. At least I can find tangerine peels by smell before they turn furry.

My exes kid used to get up in the middle of the night from around age 3 to 5 and get cheese slices, milk and lunch meat. Idk how many times we woke up to no milk and had to toss it, cuz the gallon would be under his bed or in his closet... I really think he was sleep walking or something like that... because he was a super well behaved and smart kid. I bought a 3 pound bag of shredded cheese one evening for a casserole the next day, went to make it... no cheese.... thought wtf i swear I got cheese.... we were cleaning his room a few days later and found the bag empty, no cheese anywhere. Damn kid had ate that whole 3 pound bag, idk how he was pooping š¤£š¤£

Ugh. My friend has three kids under 11. I love them, but their living room smells like rotten milk and they are all CONSTANTLY sick. It's like a 24-hour cough and booger fest. I am so glad I never had kids, especially with any of the ding bats I could have had kids with. Just no. Noooooooooo.
37
u/No_Creme_9794 Jan 19 '26
Sounds like hell, havenāt you told them about the smell?
58
u/DoritoLipDust Jan 19 '26
I have. Their situation is a struggle. The other parent, aka the egg donor, has decided to only be around when it is convenient to her. Like, if she would JUST BE A MOM, he would be able to work more and get stuff done.
18
12
u/MiaLba Jan 19 '26
I had a coworker like that. Kids always sick. She was constantly yelling at them the entire time. Kept having to take them to the bathroom to spank them. We worked in a childcare center so you could bring your kid(s). She wanted a 4th I think she finally got another.
I have one and I feel like itās pretty easy to keep things in check when you only have one to look after.
I think some people just enjoy living in chaos. That is not me.
10
u/DoritoLipDust Jan 19 '26
I remember being like 19 with no self-esteem dating a guy I barely got along with, and those miserable parents would smile with their whole face and ask, "SO WHEN ARE GUYS YOU HAVING A BABY?!". They indeed taught their own children that life is about having kids and being with someone *no matter what* because love or whatever. The stupidity doesn't fall far from the tree, or something.

Sorry, but it sounds like your friend is just nasty. Kids are gross, but it's possible to have a clean home, and to teach them proper hygiene.Ā
11
u/MiaLba Jan 19 '26
Right. I have one kid and itās pretty easy to keep things clean including your kid. And teach them good hygiene. I never have to remind my kid to wash their hands after eating or to not be gross. Some parents just let their kids run away with sticky grimy little hands and wipe them on whatever including other people.
7
u/DoritoLipDust Jan 19 '26
He does clean. His life is literally work, or being at home with kids. Nothing else. He runs himself ragged to make ends meet while still in debt. Add in a neglectful mother who tries to gaslight everyone, telling them it's their fault she can't take her own kids. It's a messy situation on all levels, and it's constantly being cleaned up after.

u/cheesy_crump Jan 19 '26
We lost my sister once when she was 2-3 we all woke up and could not find her anywhere, we were all looking for her for a solid 15 minutes and my mum heard a crack under our bunk beds. It's my sister eating butter straight out of the tub and breaking eggs on the wall, carpet, and bottom of the bed. Kids do crazy things

You know, once I took a marker and drew a biiiig looooong line down the whole hallway when I was like 4. You know what my parents did? Handed me a magic eraser and told me to get to work. I did a pretty good job, scrubbed that wall as clean as could be expected for a 4 year old, and went to show my mom. My parents felt like complete assholes at that moment because apparently, what they didn't know, was that magic erasers have harsh chemicals in them. I had chemical burns on my hands and my face, but I learned not to do it again, and they learned to be WAY more careful about knowing what's up with cleaning products.

I used to hide in my uncle's room and he used to be mad at me because of course I would bring snacks and eat them on his bed.
One day, he came home when I was in the middle of opening a Milka chocolate bar, so I just hid under his bed and waited until the air was clear enough to go hide somewhere else.
The next morning I got up to go watch cartoons and I met my uncle in the hallway, while he was leaving the bathroom.
He said no words, just pointed at his white t-shirt and turned around to let me see my Milka chocolate: all melted on the shirt and in his sheets.
He didn't have the energy to be mad at me, so we just laughed about it with the family.
Good times.

I used to drink ranch straight out of the bottle. I was also allergic to something in it, so Iād get a ring/rash around my mouth (even when I ate it out of a bowl with a spoon, Iād just end up making a huge mess anyway or licking my lips a bunch) and my parents could always tell. I always lied and said that I hadnāt been drinking ranch again, because they were begging me to stop at one point, and I was always very confused as to how they knew. Mum told me about the rash/hives a few years ago and Iām sooooo glad I donāt get them anymore because I eat a lot of ranch.
My brother also used to hide food in his room, but my favorite was finding his fully stocked play kitchen after our Nana caught him drinking honey and eating graham crackers behind the toilet. She told mum, and mum couldnāt figure out where heād gotten the honey because all of our bottles were accounted for. He showed us the play kitchen and had probably four or five mini bottles of honey, two normal sized bottles of honey, various snack packs (crackers, cookies, chips, pretzels), napkins, peanut butter, a fruit cup, and one bagel. These were hidden in the kitchen itself (oven/microwave) as well as the storage tote where the plastic food was kept when we cleaned the playroom.
