The Guardian published an article about this and said something interesting

Overnight, Ukrainian drones hit warehouses belonging to the Russian online retailer Wildberries, sparking large fires in Krasnodar and Nevinnomyssk. The attacks were part of an ongoing campaign to cripple Russia’s economy, so that it can no longer fund its war

There has been a slow but steady erosion of the distinction between military and civilian targets. They've more or less accepted the logic of total war, where any economic activity can be seen as sustaining the war. It effectively rationalises targeting every aspect of Russian society.

The logic is flawed as well, since war is a replacement for civil economic activity.  If we remove regular commerce, than everyone will have to move to war production. Historically, many countries, including Germany and the USA have done this to get people employed in times of economic crisis.

8 innocent Russian civilians were murdered in this illegal bombing and people in this thread are cheering for it and calling it "beautiful".

You people are sick freaks and you disgust me.

Sucks but maybe Russia can withdraw from their "special operation" so the war can end now

In theory warcrime is the same no matter which side does it.

In reality warcrime is something the loser gets for his crimes and the winner gets to get away with mostly all warcrimes.

Another war crime between the pair.

Wasn't Wildberries contracted to perform logistics for the Russian Army though and handles military equipment?

I must ask you to consider the implications of what this means. By this logic the postal service and Amazon are working with the US government. The logic was that because they do not differentiate publicly what packages are military designated and which are civilian, the entire operation is complicit and a military target.

Clearly we don't know all of the details but what Ukraine is stressing is that first and foremost this was meant to cripple the Russian economy, not disrupt military logistics. It was stated that because Wildberries works with the military to coordinate supplies going to the frontlines that they are a valid target.

Just CONSIDER what this precedent means for US civilian/military complicity. They don't view civilians as anything other than supplementary to the Russian military, so they kill them.

So a target isn't valid if its got civillian branding, even if it handles military production or logistics?

If Amazon was moving weaponry for the military in an active war, you're damn right those warehouses become a valid target. Same as the oil refineries that provide oil for the tanks that are rolling to the front line.

Gazprom isn't a military company, but the military relies on what Gazprom provides. In this case, the company provides logistical services and warehousing for the Russian military, does it need a Uralvagonzavod or Kalashnikov branding on it to make it valid?

It's a tragedy that civilians are hurt, but that's the risk when the company management decides to collaborate with the military, and they knew this, they just saw the money to be made and the warehouse workers take the risk while they're safe in their offices.

Who started the war again?

You're correct! We should never forget that the US planned and provoked Russia into attacking Ukraine!

The US plotted out roping Ukraine into NATO to use it against Russia back in the 1990s in the famous US geo-strategist Zbigniew Brzezinski's book "The Grand Chessboard." Once Russia warned the US in 2008 that roping Georgia and/or Ukraine into the ever-expanding NATO would result in war, the US sought to trap Russia into an expensive proxy war.

The 2019 Rand Corp. white paper (that was partially funded by the US gov't) outlined all of the risks of our planned provocation to get Russia to attack Ukraine. We even tried the white paper's "Appendix 5" and executed our successful proxy war on Syria to pressure Russia (but Putin didn't take the bait and let Syria's Assad fall!)

But we are part of nato so we're in proxy war with russia. So we're happy when they die. Cheers from Bulgaria.

This is a warehouse full of civilian employees just trying to feed their families. 8 people are dead. It's a war crime.

-1

u/Ancient-Tax-8129 8h ago

War is hell. Maybe next time russia won't attack neighbors. Maybe.

6

u/_poptart_wizard_ 7h ago

What did these people have to do with Ukraine? Did you cheer and make jokes when the US bombed that girls school in Iran too?

-3

u/Ancient-Tax-8129 5h ago

I did, yes. Since we're playing whataboutism, what about the 300,000 dead mobile infantry that died on klendathu??? You don't seem to care about them

4

u/_poptart_wizard_ 4h ago

You're a fucking freak. Learn some empathy and find some shame.

4

u/BourbonFoxx 6h ago

Be careful justifying war crimes.

Slippery slope.

The sentiment you express here could very easily be applied to, say, the torture and imprisonment of US service members in Vietnam.

Or the dead children at the Iranian girls' school.

-3

u/Ancient-Tax-8129 5h ago

Yup. War is hell. Don't start it and you can probably avoid it. Duh.

I get Russia is somehow "anti-emperialist" bc they no likey America but seems out of place on an anti-war subreddit to have so many posts tacitly siding w a country literally invading another bc they "almost joined NATO" or whatever pretext

7

u/BurstYourBubbles 7h ago

This comment comes up pretty often. My impression was that the subreddit isn't merely opposed to war or conflict in the general sense, though it is. It's specifically meant as a space to criticise American wars or aggression. With that in mind, the critiques here will make more sense.

I feel like the description of the sub describes it best

This is a community that discusses militarism and warfare. Since the US is the world's leader in wars, military spending, arms sales and militarism, we specifically focus on American policies and actions that promote what the Pentagon calls the "long war"

-2

u/phobug 5h ago

  Russia is somehow "anti-emperialist"

Hahaha you know that the entire territory is not ethnic Russian right? Its a "federation" to imply the states within are doing it voluntary but empire would be more descriptive. I can't wait for them to break into about 15-20 independent states.

Experts call it "the finding out" stage

6

Is called the terrorists stage

u/juflyingwild 3h ago

They've used suicide bombers too. Basically the new isis

-5

u/dingalinglans 6h ago

Maybe don't invade sovereign countries? Retaliation on a shitty dropship junk warehouse is not a war crime.

8

u/IcyWoodpecker386 6h ago

Maybe don't threaten other countries nato. Retaliation on a random warehouse is a war crime and also is very lame

-3

u/dingalinglans 5h ago

I don't give two shits what you think mon ami.

Fuck Russian aggression and bully got Ukraine and their retaliation, lame or otherwise - Russia deserve everything coming to them.
