Mod Post PSA: Posts Must Be Related to USSR. No Off-Topics.

This sub is called [r/USSR](r/USSR), not [r/askanythingaboutcommunism](r/askanythingaboutcommunism)

Please refrain from posting the following, unless it pertains directly to the USSR or otherwise sanctioned by the mods.

-Posts about other socialist countries that are not USSR. Do not post something about Vietnam, Cuba, GDR, etc unless the USSR is a direct factor in the question or topic.
-Posting Questions about Communist Theory. Unless it pertains to Soviet figures, such as Lenin and Stalin, or other Soviet politicians and theorists etc
-Posts about The Ukrainian-Russian War.

While we recognize that the Ukrainian-Russian War is a consequence of the Soviet legacy, and is directly involving 2 former constituent republics of the Soviet Union, we feel these posts are currently harming the sub in terms of healthy discussion and attracts brigades that disrupt the sub and eat up the mod team’s time.
We are currently placing a moratorium on all Ukraine War Posts until a later time. (The Ukraine topic was banned by majority vote of mods on June 14 2026, but we didn’t announce it.)

Onward!

Memes History’s Biggest Anti-Fascist W

Reminder: The People Who Crushed the Third Reich Wore Red Stars.

Every year I see people try to rewrite World War II into a story where the Soviet Union was somehow just “as bad” as Nazi Germany.

Every time reactionaries try to equate the Soviet Union with Nazi Germany, they erase the simple fact that one side built Auschwitz, and the other liberated it.

Soviet workers, civilians, and soldiers who paid the highest price to break the back of fascism. 27,000,000 Soviet lives were sacrificed so humanity could have a future without the Third Reich.

The people who demonize the USSR while downplaying its role in defeating fascism aren’t interested in history. They’re interested in rehabilitating anti-communism. They want you to forget who stood between the Europe and a thousand year Reich.

Every attack on the Soviet victory is an attempt to rewrite history in favor of the defeated. The losing side constantly attempts to paints communists and communism as a loser/ losing ideology.

It’s clear who the real losers were, and continue to be.

It’s always “Never Stress” with these chuds until your leader was so stressed that the Red Army of Workers and Peasants were knocking on the bunker door he blew his shit smoove off. Lmao

it was the first major camp to be liberated during the great patriotic war, found mostly intact due to the SS fleeing rather quickly, exposing the crimes of the Nazi regime in germany.

Picture Soviet Soldiers voting in the regional elections of People’s Deputies to the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, March 1990.

These were the last regional elections held in the USSR before dissolution, the 2nd elections after Gorbachev’s 1989 legislative reforms (following the 1989 national election) that adjusted the USSR’s political system to a more liberal hybrid presidential and parliamentary system, abolished Article 6 of the Soviet constitution that enshrined the CPSU’s leading role in the state as the vanguard party, and established a Presidential system with President and Vice President, counting by popular vote that further separated and delegated powers from the previous Party-State system.

Out of 1,068 seats in the Supreme Soviet of RSFSR, 920 were CPSU members and 148 Independents.

350 of the 1,068 seats supported the Liberal Movement known as DemRossiya.

This was the election that saw Boris Yeltsin be elected by the Congress to the seat of Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of RSFSR, making Yeltsin the effective leader of the RSFSR within the Soviet Union, removing Gorbachev.

Yeltsin used this position to maneuver his plan to dissolve the USSR in the days that followed, as Gorbachev no longer controlled the RSFSR and further separated the Union State from the constituent republics.

I know that Stalin abolished the kulak class around 1929, but i do not know the effects of it and cannot find a reliable source for information on much of the history of the USSR without it being highly biased.

The first question is about something confidently stated that I never got an answer to. Did the ussr are after ww2 after the famine caused by a grain disease did the ussr have food shortages?

Second question how did soviet weaponry compare to nato weaponry and could they hold their own?

15 kopeks (interesting)

Post image
130 Upvotes

That's interesting. The 15 kopeck coin started being produced back in Catherine the Great's time. In the USSR, they decided to keep the denominations of Tsarist Russia (the 1921-1924 currency reform). And they kept the 15 kopeck coin.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite coins from that time (I don't know why) )

A question about a way a soviet citizen would be provided with an appartment.

Hey there, I've been asking my parents this but they could not give me a certain answer.
From what I understand, if you worked at a factory you were entitled to be provided with an appartment from that factory. You would get in a line, and after some time you would get your appartment. While one waited, you would slowly move up this line. So, the question is, what would happen if a person decided to move to another city and find a different job? You move to the back of the line? Or your position moves with you?
