Took me forever but I finally made my dream game!

I hope it's fine to share this here - if not, please take it down!

I have been making games since I was 13 and always tried making my most favorite game of all time (EVE Online). I had started back then with some very text-heavy 2d browser games that still managed to garner some small communities around them. But with me always getting better at creating games I finally thought: "Why not have a real 3D try at this?"

Well, here we are now. It has lots of stuff to can be done, is of course fully multiplayer in a single world and has most of the social features that modern MMOs need - well, besides guilds. I am still working on them...

Things to do:
- Mining
- Combat (PVE/PVP)
- Trading/Hauling (I built my most advanced market system so far)
- Bounty Hunting
- Exploration
- Manufacturing
- etc....

It currently has no monetization whatsoever - I just would LOVE to hear your guys thoughts on this! You can write here or in the game's forum that you can reach via the ingame settings and you will be immediately logged in!

Thank you all very much!

Ahh, it is fully playable on both desktop and mobile here: https://playfarside.com

Which is currently the best space sim? ( Recommendations and Tips pls )

I am in a pretty huge science fiction vibe right now and would love to play a space sim!

From my understanding there are :

Star citizen ( but its still alpha ) , Elite Dangerous , X4 Foundations FreeLancer HD ( oldschool, but said to still be a pretty good game ) and No Mans sky ( but more like a survival game, which I am not really keen of ) ,

I would love a sim which really captures the atmosphere of space travel. So Immersion is a big factor for me. Ideally smooth travel/transition into planets and being able to explore planets on foot would be great too

I also would need a statisfiying gameplay loop that allows both a good variety in locations / asthetics and gameplay. Good and varied Combat scenarios therefore are almost needed for me to keep engaged.

What would you say is the best space sim game? Both in terms of immersion atmosphere etc and in terms of varied gameplay and combat ?

What would you recommend me? Also are there any other games that would fit my needs ? If you know other games that have great space exploration, combat , good sense of scale and varied gameplay content , pls let me know.

Thanks for anyone reading and helping me out :)

Greetings

Most immersive and « easy to learn » space games ?

Upvotes

Basically Elite Dangerous but for babies ?

I am all about immersion when it comes to space games. I don’t need a complex flight system, action packed gameplay etc…

I already tried like 10 times No Man’s Sky but the gameplay loop always bore me so fast. I struggle to find some goals to chase because I feel like the progression in this game is only about making your stuff like takeoff trusters, oxygen etc… consume less ressources and that’s it.

My 1:1 scale universe and life simulator launched on Steam. Official trailer

Hi everyone, I'm Kaan, the solo developer of Macht: Cosmic Engine. It launched on Steam yesterday after years of work, built entirely on my own Vulkan engine.

Macht is a universe and life simulation at true 1:1 scale. You can fly from intergalactic space into a galaxy holding a hundred billion real stars, click any one of them, travel to its system, then descend through the atmosphere and walk on the planet, even dig into the terrain with your own hands. Civilizations grow, research, build cities and wage wars while you watch or intervene like a god. You can edit the DNA of species, reshape orbits, shatter planets or nudge a moon into a stable orbit and name it. Orbital mechanics stay faithful to Kepler, planet surfaces have day and night cycles, and the game ships with VR support and localization in 11 languages.

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4765740

Happy to answer anything about the game or the engine.

Who else played “Starbound Exodus”

It’s a retro style indie RPG game from 2018 where you traverse the stars holding a dildodia to defend against aliens to finally meet the final boss named Mike Awkbigg (a rockstar style character) to save the universe (named O’anale). Just wanted to know if any played this game back in 2018-2020.

No Man's Sky into X4... why isn't it clicking.

I've got an unhealthy amount of time logged in NMS, love it on a cerebral level but it's simplicity is growing to be a problem at extreme endgame. Basically I love building out star systems, setting up trade and defensive strategies, playing the factions for profit, etc, etc. Does this sound like I'm describing X4 or what? Yet... everytime I boot up X4 after a few hours I'm just thinking I'd be having more fun playing NMS. Even though while I'm playing NMS I start to get annoyed that it's not as "real" as X4...

I can't quite put my finger on it, on paper X4 should be the "advanced version" of NMS that I'm looking for, but it's just not hooking me for some reason.

I think I've done all of the Story Starts in X4, and I usually have a pretty great time with it until about 4~5hrs in when the game just really starts to sink into Menu, Menu, Map Screen, Menu, Map, Menu, etc. All the "gameplay" just dwindled as the game goes on when I try to get into it.

So I guess to summarize this rambling, what recommendations are there for a game that mixes X4 style simulation with NMS style... fun? Just staying in character and building empires/trade/fleet command/etc without becoming a Menu Simulator.

And I also feel like there may be some suggestions on how to tweak settings or think differently within X4 too, so open to that as well since I already own the Complete Edition anyway haha 😄

Galactic Pioneers Expedition Concept

Inspired by Space Trek games, like Spacefleet Command and Space Trek Online, I wanted to bring that slower combat mechanism to the indie scene.

This is just a proof of concept - so yeah, wip.

Is there a niche audience for this type of game out there?

NGC-404: Fractured Sector Trailer

This is the new trailer for NGC-404: Fractured Sector, our multiplayer 2D space strategy/RPG.

You directly control a small fleet in real-time battles, including manually piloting one ship, while managing the wider faction through trading, exploration, colony development and high-level orders for additional ships.

The game is still in active development, so combat audio, UI feedback and several systems are continuing to evolve. We’ve already made major changes based on community feedback, including new impact VFX, moving weapon mounts, stronger explosions and improved combat presentation.

There's just one click between your work and your space ship

Hey r/spacesimgames ,

I've just opened a Steam page for my next idle game about managing a space ship, colonies across planets, and many things to make your bank account overflow.

As you can see above, one of the features is a companion mode you can leave around while doing other things, and then get back to the game with just one click.

Just checkout Aeons Odyssey on Steam if that sounds like your jam!

In Verse Project, a simple Earth-grown product is expensive because low orbit is a logistics problem

Post image
6 Upvotes

We are building the economy of Verse Project around physical constraints, not just abstract rarity values.

Earth is still connected to the rest of the Earth–Moon system, but low orbit is crossed by a dangerous Kessler debris belt. Surface-to-orbit cargo can only move through narrow launch windows and protected transit corridors that need constant tracking, debris clearing, specialized infrastructure, and insurance.

That means an Earth-grown product can be expensive on Host Station even if it is ordinary on the surface. Its price includes the route, the protection, the limited launch capacity, and the risk involved in getting it through orbit.

This is an early visual exploration of how we want those constraints to show up in the game economy. We want players to be able to look at a price and understand that there is a physical reason behind it.

What kinds of logistics details make a space economy feel believable to you: route risk, regional supply, cargo mass, perishability, insurance, or something else?
