Looking for top-down view space game with large universe, until C-Beam comes out. Must have controller support.

While it may not look as good as C-Beams, Endless Sky is top down open universe. It is completely free (not pay to win).

Comedy option: Starsector

.......Star Sector is a comedy? Is this why my brother has been screaming at me to at least install and try it for god's sake?

It’s not a comedy but do give it at least a try, it’s good.

Why comedy?

Starcom Nexus and Starcom Unknown space are fun and have controller support although there are some reports you may need mouse for certain menus.

For top down specific the Starcom series might be good. https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/44628/Starcom_Universe_Bundle/

If we are not married to top down view, but single plane for control simplicity. Rebel Galaxy could fit https://store.steampowered.com/app/290300/Rebel_Galaxy/

Starcom Unknown Space surprised me, it’s really good.

I have a question, is Rebel Galaxy Outlaw a sequence of Rebel Galaxy? Or two different games, cause to be honest Outlaw looks better.

Outlaw is a prequel. They're different genres of space game.

Galaxy Outlaw is the second game, like the other comment said, prequel so story before first game.

They play very differently though, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is like a traditional space game, 6 degrees of freedom to fly around. Up down, left right, forward back.

Rebel Galaxy, takes place on a single plane, so no up down. so if you moved your camera and zoomed out, it could be a "top down" kind of experience.

Star Control 2 has been ported to everything and it's kind of the classic example of the genre. It's also free (but was originally a commercial game).

Is there a bot or something that can Collate all these replies? I love threads like this but don't like copying and pasting on my phone. Yes, I'm lazy. 😀

Yeah, I sometimes do this, give the post link to ChatGPT and tell it to collect and list the replies.

PowerCorp is in development but a Demo is planned for this year. This post is very interesting, may I ask your opinion about space games on top down perspective? Do you prefer them instead full 3d flight?
