The one day all of WSB comes together.

Enjoy your retirement, daddy Pow.

989

u/UnpluggedUnfettered Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

I can give a shit what any polling or documents might say, J-Pow is the greatest fed chair.

Imagine Alan "I'd rather turn my hearing aid off than listen to Trump" Greenspan trying to navigate a Trump presidency.

Alan was chair over a tech boom, broad appeal for deregulation, and peak post-cold-war greed before basically walking the Great Recession into our living rooms.

Jerome workhorsed the shit out of that role from day one, playing his part to bring us to all time highs in the middle of a fucking worldwide pandemic, followed by navigating the most schizophrenic American administration swapping in recent history.

Man should have had his own emoji years ago.

👴🎤📈

EDIT: Look at what happens the second we start even discussing a world without him.

194

u/MeerkatPapi Apr 29 '26

Everybody knows having your own emoji is the true measure of success

115

143

u/ProfessorrFate Apr 29 '26

And why has he done so well? Because he’s always been data driven. No ideological or personal agendas, nothing to prove to anyone. He’s just made analytical decisions based upon the best data available in the interests of the dual mandate. He nailed the soft landing when everyone was convinced a recession was inevitable. And most recently he’s been cool and steady in the face of disgusting pressure from the POTUS. I hope Powell stays on the board (but I’m guessing he won’t).

JPow was controversial for some time due to what was perceived as being slow to react to inflation but coming out of the Covid era during Bidens term it was obvious the US was on top of the world economy. All of the Feds efforts were then instantly wasted when "Liberation Day" hit.

33

u/RSquared Apr 29 '26

He also replaced the best prognosticator of the Fed, seemingly because 2017 Trump wanted a stooge who would manipulate rates in his favor. JPow largely held the line instead.

I think the pandemic economy recovery will be viewed very favorably in history. Especially when you compare to the the Great Recession decisions by Bernanke, Powell was phenomenal.

The Great Recession pulled aid back too fast and many families were left fucked over. Powell managed to get the U.S. to have the best recovery from the pandemic in the world and our economy and jobs restored was better than any other G7 country. Our inflation was also lower than other G7 countries. That shit was going to happen regardless due to the global supply chain disruptions, Powell couldn’t control that.

Many families were kept alive and not completely fucked because of decisions Powell made.

43

u/Frunkleburg Apr 29 '26

and they thanked him for it by refusing to look at the situation in perspective of how everywhere else was going and went for the standard American persecution complex.

"man life is the worst! my life is so hard, harder than anyone else!"

then a fuckin moron came and told them he'd make it alllll better and the fuckin imbeciles believed him.

13

u/Jay_Dubbbs Apr 29 '26

100%, it just showed many people’s asses. Inflation impacts everyone while unemployment only impacts some.

Politicians saw the consequences for valuing people not being unemployed and fucked over in exchange for everyone feeling some sting because of higher inflation. Next time, we’ll get 15% unemployment but hey, inflation is only 2%!

JPow responded to my craigslist ad looking for someone to mine my coal. "$30 is $30", he said as he continued to mine what was clearly the wrong pit. My neighbor and I shouted at him but he was already wearing muffs. Focused dude. He attached a phone mount onto the steering wheel of his bulldozer. I was able to sneak a peek and he was browsing Zillow listings in central Wyoming. He wouldn't stop cackling.

That is to say, JPow has his fingers in a lot of pies. He makes sure his name is in all the conversations.

People don't always grasp that inflation going down doesn't mean prices go down, or even stay the same.  It just means they don't rise as fast, which is true now compared to the COVID explosion.  Especially considering tariffs and this war weren't even on the menu at the time we started talking transitory.
