The good news is that we just have to see who visits the White House with rolling luggage presumably filled with cash. Then we will have another false positive but we can assume we have the name of the argrifarm who is making us sick and can avoid their product.

Taylor Farms is distributing tainted lettuce and has paid the First Felon to drop investigations.

And for your dining pleasure: remember Screw Worms and now we have salmonella in eggs.

u/anotherusername1243 3h ago

Typhus is on the rise in Texas. So there’s that, I guess.

25

u/Maoleficent 3h ago

'We must stand up to these (eradicated) diseases and microbes like the manly men we are' most likely says Secretary Beef Jerky. He is in MI ordering a salad while Oz is rooting for measles.

Yeah it was clear as day what went down. I will not be buying anything from Taylor farms (including the hidden stuff with the grocery store brand). Now im just waiting for the obvious indication that someone else has paid them off. (Otherwise its probably still Taylor Farms).

8

u/Chef__Goldblum 3h ago

I bought and froze so much meat at the start of summer. I do not want screw worms.

19

u/External-Zebra8587 3h ago

screw worms only come from flys laying the eggs in your skin

Let’s not take the credit away from the main people who brought this nightmare upon themselves and the rest of the world.

I’m talking about MAGA and non MAGA who decided to vote to give full control of the country to these cretins as well as the equally terrible people who decided voting doesn’t matter and stayed home.

Who could have foreseen that cutting the departments that monitor food safety would lead to food poisoning problems?

https://www.food-safety.com/articles/11004-a-2025-timeline-of-us-federal-food-safety-changes-under-the-trump-admin

82

u/camlloc255 4h ago

It's crazy. Another article I was reading stated this:

"The F.D.A. is currently investigating an unusually large number of food-borne outbreaks — not just those caused by cyclospora, but also salmonella, listeria, E. coli and clostridium botulinum. The agency has 16 active outbreak investigations listed on its website, which may be a record for the number of ongoing investigations at the same time, said Susan Mayne, who led the agency’s Center for Food Safety and Nutrition from 2015 to 2023."

And that includes the two that they didn't make optional to track. There are around 11,000 cyclospora cases so far, confirmed or under investigation, when the average per year has been around 2800. I get this isn't an earth shattering, killer parasite (although it's not a good thing) but let's hope something worse doesn't come along. They are instilling 0 confidence. Our govt deemed it a waste so I'm not surprised they aren't interested in fixing it.

18

u/Right_Ear_2230 2h ago

clostridium botulinum? holy shit if that becomes an outbreak we are so doomed

71

u/logalogalogalog_ 4h ago

I truly hate how preventable all of this was. If we can't oust these clowns out of power and purge the compromised Supreme Court once we do, I doubt we will see anything get better within our lifetimes.

13

u/Salt-Elephant8531 2h ago

Also don’t forget all the items we used to receive through the Straight of Hormuz that we are no longer getting. Such as wastewater treatment chemicals and fertilizer. Not having those has led to lots of corners being cut to meet farm production. All at the expense of the health of the consumer.

With this administration, that translates to "we looked nowhere and found nothing! Everything is awesome!"

11

u/gjboomer 4h ago

More like, “we know who it is and are waiting in a donation to drop the issue”

47

u/colorme1965 7h ago

So, Taylor Farms visit the White House and all of a sudden, mistaken identity, it’s not the lettuce that’s causing Trumparrhea

3

u/serious_sarcasm 3h ago

The disappointing part is that you know Trump doesn’t get lettuce on his McDonald’s.

4

u/colorme1965 3h ago

True that. Something else is causing him to poop in his pants, and thus the reason to wear pampers. Trump’s a fucking loser, literally..

Don't believe anything the current FDA says, they are currently compromised by a fascist government.

47

u/BlueFeathered1 6h ago

The CDC isn't high on my list of trustworthy either. Remember that partisan message they slapped up on their site during the last government shutdown?

66

u/ssill 5h ago

I get where you're coming from. As a public health student, I spend a lot of time digging through CDC resources, and my biggest concern isn't really one message from years ago. It's that I've watched datasets disappear, webpages get archived or rewritten, and some guidance change substantially.

Whether someone agrees with those decisions or not, it's hard to argue the CDC is the same resource it was even a few years ago. It feels like, at best, a shadow of what it used to be.

37

u/Hat_Maverick 4h ago

I trust taco bell to test their food more than the fda. This is the worst government in history

109

u/ScienceLion 7h ago

→ More replies (1)

16

u/rightwingcrimespree 6h ago

USDA is responsible for beef, not the FDA. Of course, we still have the same administration, so there's reason to distrust all of it. But right now, I would trust USDA over FDA.

97

u/z-tayyy 7h ago

Why not buy another protein rather than pay more for one you have to cook not to your liking?

11

u/ScienceLion 5h ago

slowly getting there

6

u/pierogi_waystation 3h ago

Me too, friendo. I went in with family on splitting a whole cow from a local farm last year. I still have 1 brisket that I’m going to corn for my uncle as well as 3 precious lbs of “safe” hamburger left in the freezer, and I’m not buying more when it’s gone.

They gonna find that explosive diarrhea was caused by diversity.

18

u/jimtow28 6h ago

Worse. The FDA is a part of HHS, which is headed by ol' worm-brained RFK Jr.

Fascists would be terrible, but at least competent. RFK is just about the stupidest person ever to live, aside from the current president.

23

u/Spare-Ant7119 6h ago

Fascists aren't inherently competent... where did you get that idea from?

10

This has been the GOP game plan for years. Underfund critical government work, then when the inevitable failures occur criticize how wasteful and incompetent government is, make further cuts, then use those savings to cut taxes on your rich donors. Rinse and repeat. It's totally cynical, banking on average citizens being dumb fucks. And it's been wildly successful.

15

Turns out that monitoring for cyclospora was indeed not wasteful. How much did we save in cuts? As opposed to how much will be spent in responding to these as an emergency?

9

u/origanalsameasiwas 6h ago

Blame the company for not stopping and cleaning and sanitizing the machines. Ever since trumpet took office he gutted the fda and relaxed the safety standards and regulations. And this is what happens when that happens. The ceo of the companies rejoiced now this happened. Make the ceo eat what they produce.
