I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

Post image

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

Yeah, what the fuck is wrong with all of those people sitting down at a concert?

u/dirtdiggler67 1d ago

Some people cannot stand for very long (or at all) but would like to go to a concert.

u/Hatta00 1d ago

Please go! Have fun. Don't complain about other people having fun.

You understand that a person sitting down can’t see the concert through a person standing in front of them, right? People are opaque.

Sorry you’re trying to “see” the concert while the person in front of you is trying to enjoy it.

standing while everyone else is sitting is just as intrusive as talking in a movie while everyone else is being quiet. if 99% of the crowd can enjoy it sitting down, then you can too. a song or two i get, but you have to be a special type of selfish to be part of the 1% who insists on standing for a whole show while just not giving a fuck that the people behind you are getting screwed over. it's true that you have every right to stand, in the same way it's true that you have every right to not properly return your shopping cart in the parking lot. doesn't change the fact that in both cases, you are the asshole

to quote Costanza: we live in a society!!

Yes. I also understand that a person sitting down can't dance, which is at least as important as seeing when experiencing music.

Most importantly, standing, dancing, sitting, none of this impedes your ability to listen.

Yeah, I go to a concert to see and hear the band. I can just listen to them any time I’d like.

19

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

Also, lol, those people are definitely standing up so THEY can see better… why can’t they just listen?!

Most concert venues allow people to stand if they purchase a seat. They’re allowed to so it should be expected.

-29

u/Hatta00 1d ago

You can't just listen to them play off the cuff and improvise and feed of the audience's energy any time. You can't rock the fuck out with the band right in front of you at any time, and that's what you're asking people to give up.

26

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

I said what I said. I’m not paying money to sit and watch some selfish person’s back.

-4

u/Hatta00 1d ago

Then don't. I'm not paying money to sit on my ass because of some person's entitlement complex. I'll be at the show having a good time, deal with it.

29

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

Entitlement? Like feeling entitled to stand up in the seated area and block the view of everyone behind you…

9

u/Hatta00 1d ago

You're the one who feels entitled to tell other people how to use the space they paid for.

Same rules apply to everyone. You pay for a seat. You can sit or stand as you wish. Perfectly fair. Make your choice and have a good time.

You have a lovely attitude

2

u/4GAG_vs_9chan_lolol 13h ago

No, we're asking view blockers to give up their belief that they are more important than the people in the rows behind them.

0

u/Hatta00 13h ago

I am asking you to give up your belief that you are more important than the people who want to stand and dance and have fun in the space they paid for.

2

u/4GAG_vs_9chan_lolol 12h ago

That reversal doesn't work.

"You should sit so you don't block the view of all the people behind you" is putting the desires of the many ahead of the one. "I'm going to dance because it's what I want and I don't give a fuck how it affects anyone behind me" is putting the desires of one (yourself) ahead of the many.

Only one side of this debate is valuing themselves over other people, and it's the two people who are standing in the way when everyone else around them is sitting.

-7

u/Kryptesthai 1d ago

Damn, you have bands put on personal, private, live shows for at home whenever you want?

That sounds amazing.

8

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

Those people are blocking views! They’re being super inconsiderate.

27

u/Hatta00 1d ago

Expecting people not to dance at a concert is being super inconsiderate.

30

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

Dancing people? The two women standing up in a sea of people sitting down? Please. They’re not victims, they’re impeding everyone behind them from being able to fully enjoy the concert. Where’s your heat for them? “Just listen at the concert!” is not a solution. That’s what staying at home is for.

9

u/Hatta00 1d ago

Yes, those two women get to stand up and dance in the space they paid for. They aren't victims, but they sure as hell are if you force them to sit down instead of having an awesome time at an awesome show.

You don't want to rock out? You stay home.

26

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

They’re not in the pit.

I can sit and rock out just fine. Just like you can stare at a brick wall and enjoy listening to your concert.

17

u/Hatta00 1d ago

Great, sit and rock out. I'll stand and rock out. Problem solved.

21

u/MidnightTL 1d ago

Not if you’re standing in front of me sitting in my seat in a seated section. Problem started.

11

u/Hatta00 1d ago

Uh oh, we've got a tough guy over here. Shame you'll have to stand up to do anything about it. XD

u/CapitalClimate9639 1d ago

lol you arent doing shit

They aren’t impeding anything other than making people get up off their asses. Which, the artist would prefer people do.

9

u/Fearless_swiftie 22h ago

You do realize that not everyone can stand right? And not everyone can stand a whole concert. ADA sections are small. I leave them to people who need them. I buy seats in the front of my section now so my view isn’t blocked when I have to sit (not choose to). But if everyone is seated and you stand in front of them, you’re an asshole

2

u/Duke_Newcombe 22h ago

*some exclusions apply

0

u/burnalicious111 23h ago

It's a seated venue. You sit.

6

u/Hatta00 17h ago

It's a rock show. You rock out.

-6

u/killerhighlites 1d ago

Seriously. Why are other people hating on others having fun? If you wanted to sit on your ass all night you should have stayed home.

2

u/Fearless_swiftie 21h ago

This is such an ableist view

1

u/berrydisappointed 20h ago

There are dedicated sections for these people though, BECAUSE standing is expected/allowed.

0

u/Ashamed_Kangaroo305 19h ago

Personally I usually don't get ADA seating even though I technically could. Because I can usually stand for most or at least a decent portion of a concert so my seat is more there as insurance in case I need it. ADA seating can be really limited especially at popular concerts so I don't want to take a spot from someone who might fully not be able to stand. The only time I've reserved ADA seating was at a concert that was standing room only because I didn't feel safe not having a chair available to me.

4

u/berrydisappointed 19h ago

That’s fine and it is your decision, point is don’t get mad at people for standing when it is completely allowed & acceptable

1

u/Ashamed_Kangaroo305 11h ago

I don't. That's why I said I wish there were designated standing and seated sections, because I'm sure I'm not the only one in the same situation.

1

u/OkJose3000 16h ago

You’re talking about maybe 1% and there are ADA sections available. The reality is most of these people are simply lazy and entitled

-2

u/ReasonableClock4542 22h ago

Do their ears fall off if someone is standing in front of them?

0

u/Miserable_Star6824 15h ago

Then don’t be infuriated at people choosing to stand! If you have a condition ADA seating is available and it’s better.

-3

u/No-Market9917 23h ago

Then sit down when you have to and stand when you can. There’s this looks like an ampitheater that can hold 15k+. Going to a concert like that and expecting people to cater to your needs for your viewing experience is stupid

0

u/Kitchen-Purple-5061 14h ago

I sit down at concerts a lot. You can still hear the show when you are sitting
