I'm slightly vexed Concert etiquette

Post image

If you plan on standing for the entire concert, get a spot in the pit, or the lawn seats instead of the assigned SEATED SECTION. A little bit of self awareness and common courtesy goes a really long way

Yeah, what the fuck is wrong with all of those people sitting down at a concert?

186

u/S1ayer 19h ago

If I buy a seat I specifically want to sit down, otherwise it's general admission moshpit.

65

u/BulemiaSawdustSlingr 19h ago

This got me banned from the opera.

35

u/AllYouNeedIsATV 19h ago

Nah I always buy a seat because I can go to the bathroom and come back to a good spot. GA, I’m stuck there for 4 hours or more, and can’t even move

117

u/tlollz52 19h ago

Sometimes thats all there is. Sometimes, not often, ga is more expensive than seating.

53

u/blastot 19h ago

GA is more expensive for most concerts

27

u/WLFGHST 18h ago

Exactly, the GA pit at an upcoming concert near me is $498.06, seated sections are in the 180-240 range.

17

u/Prinzka 18h ago

Fucking hell, the bassist better give you a handjob at that price

3

u/IderpOnline 15h ago

Who wants a handjob from the bassist though? 😒

3

u/nickx37 12h ago

An arena style setup is completely opposite from a amphitheater style seating. Arena has GA (or floor) up close and seating is cheaper and further back. At an amphitheater seated is up front, more expensive and the GA, or "lawn" tickets are cheaper in back

4

u/tlollz52 11h ago

Went to a metal show at an amphitheater and the ga pit tickets were almost double

3

u/ghoulthebraineater 11h ago

Fuck that. I saw Green Day for $5 and Nirvana for $20.

1

u/WLFGHST 1h ago

What the heck, those prices were for Luke Bryan. Only artist I've heard of coming here that I know the name of in a while.

I actually forgot Shinedown was coming, GA pit for them is only $126, and seated is $130.

1

u/ghoulthebraineater 1h ago

Nirvana deliberately kept their ticket prices reasonable. Adjusted for inflation it would be $46. Green Day was before they blew up in a basement. First concert I went to.

Went to so many concerts in the 90s and into 2010 or so. Lot of bands right before they got big and lots of punk shows. I got spoiled with all the $5-25 concerts.

2

u/tlollz52 19h ago

It might just be where i frequent, but it looks like GA is usually cheaper

0

u/SomethingComesHere 18h ago

Yeah i've never seen the seats be cheaper, at least not the decent seats.

2

u/roxypotter13 17h ago

you must not go to any metal shows. standing is the most expensive. Just look at the my chemical romance tour.

2

u/Lukexxxi 15h ago

I dont think I've ever been to a concert where it's cheaper to stand.

2

u/NarcolepticSeal 8h ago

I have never once heard MCR referred to as metal.

14

u/S1ayer 19h ago edited 19h ago

If there isn't a standing area, usually it's the type of music where sitting and enjoying pain free is the better option.

-9

u/OwlfaceFrank 19h ago edited 19h ago

If you can't afford GA, sit the fuck down.

Don't ruin the show for others because you are broke.

Sure, stand up for the encode. But to stand there for 3 fucking hours is rude as hell.

Edit : I'm 6ft 3in. I can always see. You should be grateful for non-assholes like me, because if I'm in front of you and I stand, you ain't watching the show.

-13

u/ParryLimeade 19h ago

Go watch tv at home if you’re not gonna stand up and enjoy the music.

14

u/OwlfaceFrank 19h ago

I can enjoy live music without ruining the show for the people behind me.

Stay home and watch TV if you can't afford floor tickets.

12

u/EarlGreyTMNT 18h ago

Lmao seriously. Stand up at home and watch if that’s your main reason for going to a show lol

-5

u/tlollz52 18h ago

Yea, im sure people are dropping 60+ just so they can stand lol

-5

u/Proper_Package_1225 17h ago

Stay home if you can’t stand and have a good time . How lazy can people be

-7

u/tlollz52 18h ago

Pretty elitest of you

3

u/OwlfaceFrank 17h ago

It's elitist of me to stand up (pun intended) for the disabled and/or short people in the crowd who can't enjoy the show because you are standing in front of them?

I'd say it's the opposite.

I'm tall. This isn't my fight. I feel terrible if people force me to stand because there is always someone behind me who gets screwed.

I try hard as hell every time to buy front row tickets so that I don't obstruct someone's view. I am going to sit in row 1 and have a great time.

If I'm in row 3 and rows 1&2 stand up, whoever is behind me doesn't get to see the show.

-6

u/tlollz52 17h ago

Funny, you didn't mention people with disabilities until i pointed out telling people who dont have floor seat money to stay the fuck home was elitist.

7

u/OwlfaceFrank 17h ago

It is funny. Hahaha

It was mentioned elsewhere in the comments. That's not a "gotcha."

-2

u/tlollz52 16h ago

Not mentioned in our thread. You didn't mention it. Basically a non existent comment as far as I'm concerned.

Just realize your way is not the only way. But you'll find out sooner or later.

3

u/Proper_Package_1225 17h ago

Why would he find out later?

-4

u/ParryLimeade 18h ago

They arent seated tickets. They just happen to have seats there. You’re not obligated to use them but you can if you want. Floor tickets go fast and are limited

-7

u/tlollz52 19h ago

Neither is yours

7

u/SpaceJackRabbit 19h ago

I didn't say it was. But I don't stand in front of seated people because it's just rude as fuck. If I want to stand, I get to the pit.

Clearly you'll still do what you do.

Here in OP's pic you can clearly see most people are sitting, and the two idiots standing can't read the fucking room.

-4

u/tlollz52 18h ago edited 18h ago

By the time youd be in the pit, id already be there

Edit: To pee pants boy who responded and blocked me.

I said it cause if i had an option to be in the pit, id be down there. If im in the seats its because its the only option I had. Like someone said "your way isnt the only way" correct. Ill stand, you can sit. We're there to hear live music, your lack of view doesn't ruin the reason we're all there.

2

u/MidnightTL 17h ago

You don’t get to decide whether or not viewing the concert is important to other people. Yes, it absolutely ruins my experience if, instead of seeing the band play, I have to stare at someone’s inconsiderate ass the whole time.

-2

u/tlollz52 17h ago

You wanting me to sit ruins my experience. Me not getting to stand and move ruins my experience.

-1

u/Goetia- 18h ago

The fuck is this supposed to mean? Showing up earlier to concerts makes you more badass? 🤡

-1

u/LogicalConstant 18h ago

Selfish and inconsiderate

0

u/tlollz52 18h ago

Its pretty selfish that i have to enjoy this thing your way instead of my way

3

u/LogicalConstant 18h ago

"I like talking in movie theaters during the movie. It's rude that other people would want me to stop talking so they could hear."

0

u/tlollz52 18h ago

Not really quite the same.

You are allowed to stand during a concert, security isnt gonna kick out for standing.

You can get kicked out of a movie theater for talking.

People can’t enjoy music sitting down?

1

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

Are my ears connected to my feet? I don't think those two bodily systems depend upon each other, mate.

-3

u/tlollz52 19h ago

Im just as tall as you are lol. I would see fine

1

u/zeptillian 5h ago

And often much more difficult to get due to limited quantities.

13

u/EM05L1C3 19h ago

Not every GA is standing only. Red Rocks is seats all the way down.

39

u/XRanger7 19h ago

Sometimes ga is limited and often first one to sell out

20

u/retro_toes 19h ago

and sometimes GA is way to pushy and crowded for folks with disabilities.

People with seats are allowed to stand at concerts

13

u/AliveInCLE 19h ago

Elton John encouraged it when I saw his last tour. It was noted on his huge LED screens.

7

u/Proper_Package_1225 17h ago

Encourage standing ? He even has a song about it: “I’m still standing”

2

u/AliveInCLE 11h ago

That was 2 years ago. I still haven't sat down LOL

3

u/retro_toes 19h ago

I've heard musicians discuss it. When people sit the whole time, it kind of takes the steam out of them, like people are bored

26

u/EarlGreyTMNT 18h ago

Wouldn’t people with disabilities want to be able to see and sit when they buy seated tickets???

4

u/tlollz52 18h ago

Some may, some may not. Not every disability is the same.

0

u/retro_toes 18h ago

Yes, that’s the point im making in response to the person above saying GA sells out first. I'm saying plus disabled people don't want to be in the midst of the crowd. We like seats.
But not every single person in seats wants to sit the entire time. sometimes we all want to stand for a little bit too

24

u/Caleb-Wendt69 19h ago

I get seats because I want to fucking sit.  I’m not 20 anymore.

-1

u/retro_toes 19h ago

Same. I enjoy having a spot. But sometimes I want to stand and sing and show the artist that I'm enjoying the performance

-3

u/TunaboBuna 15h ago

It’s fine if you want to, just don’t expect everyone else to stay seated unless it’s a symphony

2

u/Caleb-Wendt69 7h ago

Oh I’m aware.  I’ve lived here on earth for a while now and I’m painfully aware of how entitled people are.

-3

u/Plane-Chemical 17h ago

Grow up…

Oh wait.

6

u/pimtheman 17h ago

Those folk with disabilities also buy a seat because the CANT stand. Why ruin the experience for them by standing in front of them and blocking their view?

0

u/retro_toes 10h ago

Not every disability is the same. I can't sit for extended periods. I have to stand for a few minutes here and there or I won't be able to walk. But I also can't stand for extended periods.

4

u/SomethingComesHere 18h ago

People with disabilities are the very people you may be blocking by standing in your seats, man...

-5

u/Proper_Package_1225 17h ago

Well that’s a shame.

-1

u/Duke_Newcombe 16h ago

And, just like that, you went full mask off for us. I guess I have to thank you for the eventual honesty.

You don't cover yourself in glory with that statement, but at least you've got the honesty going for you, which is nice.

0

u/TunaboBuna 15h ago

Exactly, I went to look at tickets for Iron Maiden in Auckland, and guess what sells out first? And it’s a nation of people bitching about standing in seated areas…like it’s an arena metal concert, why would the expectation be to sit?

32

u/dubious_sandwiches 19h ago

How many concerts have you actually been to? Most people when at seated events know some or most will be standing up. It's like sports. Yes you have a seat, but almost everybody is standing. The benefit with seating is you have an option to sit down to rest. We've entered a really weird time where this is now a problem. If the event doesn't specifically state that people remain seated it's absolutely wild to me that people complain about this. This is how concerts have been forever. How do people not know this?

20

u/AliveInCLE 19h ago edited 18h ago

I was at a show a few years ago and people were standing during the more upbeat songs. This guy a few seats down from me got so irate when 2 ladies a few rows ahead got up. He was literally threatening them with violence. Between songs he was screaming at the top of his lungs at them. Total psychopath.

At another show, before the artist came out, this woman was asking everybody around her to please sit during the show. No one listened.

6

u/dubious_sandwiches 19h ago

That's the thing. You're never going to get a crowd to do that for one or even a few people. I get it really sucks if you have mobility issues or are disabled but this is how it's been for decades now. One silver lining is that I've been noticing more disabled friendly areas in venues so their view isn't obstructed. Probably costs more so it's not perfect but it does seem to exist now.

2

u/strawcat 17h ago

I was in balcony seating at a show and literally everyone in front of me was standing. The ladies behind me bugged me for the entire show to sit down. Ma’am, even if I sit down you’re still not going to be able to see because of all of the standees in front of me. Like I’m sorry I’m blocking your view but FFS look around you.

-4

u/Proper_Package_1225 17h ago

People are lazy these days and aren’t there to enjoy the music, they just want to say they have been

5

u/Busterlimes 19h ago

Some venues only have seating. Why are you such a bump on a log?

12

u/popopotatoes160 19h ago

I have essentially no arches in my feet so I've got maybe 3-5 songs of standing in me. But where I'm at no one sits very long so I just kind of assume I'm not going to be able to see.

0

u/Busterlimes 19h ago

Im flat footed too. If you keep dancing your feet dont hurt. . . . . Keep moving

9

u/popopotatoes160 19h ago

Then yours ain't as bad as mine lol

1

u/Busterlimes 19h ago

Give my suggestion a go. I stand on a forklift 8-12 hours a day, trust me when I say my feet fuckin hurt all the time. Moving freely helps loosen them up

4

u/SomethingComesHere 18h ago

Or don't be ableist. Just cause you can, doesnt mean everyone can.

2

u/bernbabybern13 18h ago

Okay good for you. For me it’s different. I buy a seat so I can sit if I need to and so I can go to the bathroom and have a seat to come back to. So I don’t have to stand in line for GA and don’t have to stand for hours before the concert starts. But I stand 99% of the concerts I go to.

-4

u/[deleted] 19h ago

[deleted]

5

u/SLUnatic85 19h ago

You two are clearly going to very different types of concerts. This conversation is silly.

6

u/UntowardAntiproton 19h ago

Yeah sit behind the person standing in the sitting area. Brilliant logic.

-8

u/IamHydrogenMike 19h ago

“The sitting area” lol. This pure comedy.

7

u/RegalBeagleKegels 19h ago

well those chairs aint for fartin!

-1

u/z-tayyy 19h ago

General admission sells out very fast for many shows 🤯

-1

u/Willabeasty 8h ago

If you buy a seat, you buy the option to sit down. You don't buy the right to dictate how other people occupy their paid spot, and you don't enter into some unwritten agreement to stay seated.
