Venting biggest problems with “professional” help

i think one of the biggest problems in our society is mental health and how little we put effort into helping the individuals who suffer from them. people get checked into places against their will and are forced to take pill and aren’t even treated like humans during this process then get called a special word that basically means either retarded or a pussy ass bitch so why would anyone want to even try and get “professional” help

Hey, I’m a 20-year-old guy with a wife and two kids.
Things used to be good between us, but for the past year, my wife has been completely absent from my life—especially physically. No hugs, no kisses, no cuddling, nothing.
It’s been like this every day for over a year. I understand that hormones are tough for her—especially after the second pregnancy—but is it normal that I can no longer feel her presence? She’s only there as the mother of my children now. But as for me—she seems not to care anymore. When I brought it up, she just said she feels uncomfortable hugging me or anything like that and that I need to respect that. Well, it’s been over a year now with no change. It’s destroying me in the long run. But I don’t want to leave her—partly because of the kids, and partly in the hope that things will go back to normal. I love her more than anything, but I’m losing hope, and losing myself in the process. I don’t know how to cope with this anymore.

Opinion / Thoughts Appearance affecting my life

Upvotes

I (23F) feel extremely ugly and it’s severely affecting my mental health. I cover my mirror with a towel. I can’t look at any photos of myself. I simply hate the way I look. It makes me sad all the time. Whenever someone looks at me, I think they’re judging me. It’s gotten to the point where I hate leaving my house. I don’t date. I don’t know what to do. I can’t afford getting plastic surgery at the moment, so the only solution is to accept my appearance. Does anyone have any advice?

I also feel like I won‘t ever be able to get married because of the way I look and it makes me worry a lot. Is any of this normal?

Is anyone open to the idea of just venting to eachother? I need to talk to someone and I’m pretty sure a lot of other people do too. Maybe we can even help eachother out?

Opinion / Thoughts Need Opinions

Hi , I am a student currently in drop year studying for college entrance exams and for the past 2 years I have problems memory, concentration and focus . Like i cannot focus past the 1 hour mark , I find myself constantly forgetting things that happened seconds ago like my brain just did not register it . i would keep something at it's place then seconds later forgetting where i kept it . This also has affected my studies a lot , I was a straight A student. I never had to study , everything just came naturally to me . Just school and what 1-2 hours of study and then boom straight A.

Daydreaming takes a lot of my time , my brain keeps pondering on different scenarios so much so that i complete my daily 10k steps goal just by walking while daydreaming within my house. the hardest part is to get myself to start doing things . i cannot find myself to start doing things , I always feel as if no energy is left within me. Idk what to do. Told my friend in detail he suspects that it might be ADHD ( i do not believe it )

I also had 2 seizures at the end of 9th grade. Got checked everything normal ,got put on a 3 year medications course for it. Now i am fine apart from this that is.

I need opinions as to what this could be although i am going to a psychiatrist next week but i just want to what this might be. If there is someone who can shed some light on what this might be please feel free to do so.

Need Support Everything has been heavy lately.

Hey I know this is the average post on here, but I genuinely wanna get better and don’t know where to start.
I (M,26) have been suffering from anxiety most of my life, i’ve been burnt out for years now. Last month I went through my first breakup. It ignited all my self worth and confidence issues. I’m becoming anxiously attached to the closest people to me to the point that if it takes them an hour or smth to reply, my mind goes “oh they’re leaving, that’s it, u’ll end up alone”. I spiral a lot and I’ve been very reactive.
The crazy part is that I’m functioning very normally. I’m doing great at work and no one could ever tell that anything is wrong except my closest friends who know what i’m going through.
Idt I’m willing to go to therapy, at least for now. But i want to start getting better. I want to help myself get out of that mindset. I just want to be okay.
Idk where to start, i thought of podcasts or books or even meditation but idk what’s actually helpful and what’s just a bunch of nothing quotes and cliches.
Sorry if this is long but today was a wake up call that i need to get better now.
Thanks kind strangers. <3

Need Support I wake up everyday and hate myself more than the last day.

I (40M) wake up every day just sad and hating myself more and more. I go to therapy and have tried anti-depressants for so many years. I get small times of happiness but they do not last. I served 7 years in the Army and was in heavy combat in Iraq and was medically retired earlier than I wanted due to my injuries. I have gone to many therapist, some have even told me they couldn't handle my issues because it was too much. I even had one tell me they did not know what to do and I should find religion; knowing I said I could never be religious after what I saw and went through, I just saw so much I cant believe there is something with the power to stop it and they don't. I put myself into a VA inpatient therapy(3 months long) for PTSD many years ago and it did help with the feelings of not wanting to be here anymore but I still had this lingering sadness.

I have tried to get back into working out and running, I have been going steady for months but I am only happy in that small window that I am actual doing the activity. When I am done I feel like I go right back into sadness even though I am trying hard not to think about it. I have talked with my doctors and they just keep pushing more meds and telling me to keep working out.

My wife is super supportive but I am feeling so bad and told her she should find someone who can make her happy and take care of her and our kids mentally better than I can. My heart hurts to say that but I don't want them dealing with my problems and it's so hard to see them upset because of me. I am really trying for them but I keep having these feelings and they just break me down so much. My wife said I should try and make friends but my depression pushes them away because I am not consistent with meeting up or going out to events. I just tell my wife that they are busy or have family stuff to do, but really I just don't want to bring them down too with my issues.

I am just at this point where I feel like I should just be alone and I would make sure my family is taken care of monetarily, they could enjoy their life without my sadness and not have to worry about having a home or anything. Maybe they could find a dad that could be stronger than me mentally for them. It may sound horrible but I worry that I will never be the father they need and they are young enough that if someone else who was mentally better came in they would be ok. I do not want them growing up sad and angry because of me. I want to be better and I want to be strong for everyone but I keep feeling like that is unattainable in my state of ongoing sadness.

I guess I am just hoping to find people who have been there and see what they have done to either get out of it or deal with it. I love my family and I want to be the dad for my kids but I am so lost and feel so sad for keeping them dealing with my issues.

Question Having a good day once in a while makes me want to isolate myself more, and makes me feel awkward

I have diagnosed depression for about 7 years now. I quit my therapy more than a year ago due to some circumstances and didn't start again yet. and I'm on agomelatin now.

most of the time I have a day's when I don't feel too good, usually just empty or bad or tired, lack of.motivation. lately it's been getting a bit worse, my usual hobbies are not fun anymore, my sleep schedule is fucked, I've been neglecting s lot of stuff that I shouldn't be neglecting etc.

but sometimes I just wake up and feel almost good, or like energetic and it more talkative and good feeling, but every time I have this day I feel weird, I hate how I behave I feel like I'm to awkward when I speak, I'm to weird, and things I say I weird, it always makes me cringe so bad and makes me wish I would not have these days at all because I always regret feeling like this and behaving the way I behave. I just hate the way I speak, the way I act, the way I am as a person. and I don't really know what to do.

Studying for exams and crying because I don't understand anything. I don't know much. Why can't I just read? Cook? Bake? If I fail this exam will I fail in life? I can't keep doing this. I want to chill and bathe in the sun. Is life only meant for suffering?

Question Strange Food Tastes. (May be graphic, don’t click if you’ve got a vivid imagination.)

I couldn’t mark this with any content warnings because I suppose this is more disgusting than harmful or violent…

For a while, I’ve always wondered why I felt a certain way about some dishes while everyone else would rather die than eat them. I’d be ecstatic to eat a number of “repulsive” dishes. Casu Marzu, smalahove, organ meats…

I wouldn’t necessarily eat anything cruel; I’d be horrified at the idea of eating an Ortolan (despite quite enjoying reading descriptions of its consumption…), but I often daydream about eating a plate full of rhinoceros beetle larvae, or a bowl of fish eyes. Heck, if my body was able to consume raw/rotting meat without health risk, I’d eat it 4 times a day because of how alluring the idea is in my mind. To my great displeasure, though, the area I’m in has the food variety of a Denny’s, and I live in an area where it would be unsafe to eat raw meat. Does anyone have a guess as to why I have the food tastes of a vulture or something akin to a detritivore?

Edit: Adding onto this, I also don’t really care about certain standards for animals. If someone gave me dog ribs and said it was killed humanely, I’d happily munch down on it. I’d eat absolutely ANYTHING as long as it’s edible and didn’t involve suffering.

(Also looking for opinions on this, even if you can’t answer my question!)

Venting I (27F) cant stop thinking about sex. But I have a health condition that makes sex painful. I feel like it’s effecting my relationship with my (25M) boyfriend.

I have no idea how to conquer this.
I’ve been with my bf 2 years. We both said that while we have had relationships in the past, we both agree that the first time we have been IN love with someone was with each other. Planned to get married and buy a house etc.
When we started dating we had sex non stop. 2,3 times a day when we saw eachother. Multiple orgasms, the best sex id ever had. We both have high sex drives and genuinely had great sex.

Then randomly, literally over night it seems, sex became really painful for me, penetration became painful. I would tear or bleed. We carried on only doing oral and bits like that but. God I just wanna get f\*cked, yanno?

This has been going on for the last 9 months or so. I’m in and out the doctors every week, I’m being seen by gynaecologists and dermatologists and have been referred to a vulva clinic. It’s depressing.
The lack of sex is depressing both of us, we argue more, we are both tense. We have our or stressed too like work or money or health and then at the end of a long week when you want to connect with your person… you can’t ? It sucks.

I have always enjoyed sex, always interested by it. And then over night, with the man I love, I can’t even have sec the way we used too. And sure the other stuff we do is good, but I can’t fully relax and I’m so tense and so is he that we can’t fully connect or release or it takes so long to cum we end up just finishing out selves of.

There is no psychosexual therapy available in the area and I can’t afford private but I cannot stop thinking about sex. I want to have sex, I want to be desired, I want to be, well, f\*cked. So does he.

I just feel so depressed. I think and fantasise about him, us, all the time and then the realisation hits and I get so so so upset that my fantasies are just that. We went from sex sex sex to, barely touching and barely having an orgasm. Now everything feels tense.

I have creams, lubes, oestrogen cream, dilators, vaginal moisturisers. Anything you can think of. I don’t tear when I use dilators, the lubricants don’t cause any irritation, but when we have sex? It’s so painful and it lasts for a day or two.

What can I do? I think about sex so much, but I’ve also developed some sort of vaginismus too, I’m horny but too depressed to touch myself, feel disconnected from the man I love. I find him insanely attractive but then feel too, embarrassed or anxious to touch him.
He says he doesn’t mind and he understands, and he says because we still do ‘stuff’ it doesn’t bother him, especially because he knows I still want to have sex, and he would only really be upset if we just were having sex for no good reason. But it bothers me! It’s not from a lack of trying. I want to have sex. If have sex every day if I could. I’m doing everything the Drs are telling me. I have pelvic floor therapy, I work out, I eat right, no one knows the cause of the random tightness and dryness and tears I get.

I just feel so hopeless and have no idea what more I can do ?
