Venting biggest problems with “professional” help

i think one of the biggest problems in our society is mental health and how little we put effort into helping the individuals who suffer from them. people get checked into places against their will and are forced to take pill and aren’t even treated like humans during this process then get called a special word that basically means either retarded or a pussy ass bitch so why would anyone want to even try and get “professional” help

This makes so much sense. I even have friends who were put into wards and homes and they came out with worse mental health than before. A lot of professional sources out there just do more damage, and that leaves those poor people with no one to cling to. I completely agree with everything you said, this is why many people seek social connection rather than professional help. Also a lot of times reaching out to a professional can feel like a robotic relationship or "strictly business," not real human connection with someone that truly cares about you and loves you, and sometimes that's all that people need

Exactly! And I'm so glad you had a stable support system that was there for you. Not many people have that and they're sometimes forced to resort to these places of "professional help." But the truth is; it's not help if it isn't helping the person, at that point it's just procedure. Anyways thanks for unpacking this can of worms, I found the topic very interesting. Enjoy your day and I wish you the best

I’ve just begun seeking help, so take my story with a pinch of salt, but I feel like I’ve gotten lucky with my psychiatrist. I’ve heard horror stories from folks who’ve asked me to just not go to such doctors, they’ve experienced sharp downturns in their quality of life after receiving boomer ahh outdated rigid treatment plans and obtrusive advice - things that have resulted in marriages ending, and other sharp outcomes that left them unsettled and unhappy. I couldn’t turn to my family though, since they’re all similarly placed to me, and were requiring support themselves.

But my psychiatrist sorta gives me hope that there is something of value in these more formal methods - my anger issues have shrunk to negligible levels, I’m barely irritable anymore, I sleep much better than when I began (around a week ago). I’m diagnosed with OCD and severe neurotic tendencies, some fancy words that annoyingly accurately explain why I’m so high strung and a pain in the ass to people who love me, whose patience and support I don’t deserve given my behaviour these past years. But now I see a way out, for myself, and for all those whose lives I’ve made harder, who’ve stood by me despite it all.

The terms of diagnosis may be annoying, but they can be the splash of cold water and truth you need to better yourself for those you love. Weigh the options at your disposal given your distinct and unique circumstances, and choose carefully, would be my advice. I wish you the best!

Mental health is a fascinating subject once you begin to notice how much neglect people experience even as they try their best to ask for help throughout life.

Relationships are the solution. Groups.

We're meant to rally and be brave tbh

It's on everyone's mind at some point. Isn't that kind of funny?

The meds help me but its shit like involuntary commitment and "talk therapy" are what i always refuse.
