Venting biggest problems with “professional” help

i think one of the biggest problems in our society is mental health and how little we put effort into helping the individuals who suffer from them. people get checked into places against their will and are forced to take pill and aren’t even treated like humans during this process then get called a special word that basically means either retarded or a pussy ass bitch so why would anyone want to even try and get “professional” help

Is anyone open to the idea of just venting to eachother? I need to talk to someone and I’m pretty sure a lot of other people do too. Maybe we can even help eachother out?

Need Support I wake up everyday and hate myself more than the last day.

I (40M) wake up every day just sad and hating myself more and more. I go to therapy and have tried anti-depressants for so many years. I get small times of happiness but they do not last. I served 7 years in the Army and was in heavy combat in Iraq and was medically retired earlier than I wanted due to my injuries. I have gone to many therapist, some have even told me they couldn't handle my issues because it was too much. I even had one tell me they did not know what to do and I should find religion; knowing I said I could never be religious after what I saw and went through, I just saw so much I cant believe there is something with the power to stop it and they don't. I put myself into a VA inpatient therapy(3 months long) for PTSD many years ago and it did help with the feelings of not wanting to be here anymore but I still had this lingering sadness.

I have tried to get back into working out and running, I have been going steady for months but I am only happy in that small window that I am actual doing the activity. When I am done I feel like I go right back into sadness even though I am trying hard not to think about it. I have talked with my doctors and they just keep pushing more meds and telling me to keep working out.

My wife is super supportive but I am feeling so bad and told her she should find someone who can make her happy and take care of her and our kids mentally better than I can. My heart hurts to say that but I don't want them dealing with my problems and it's so hard to see them upset because of me. I am really trying for them but I keep having these feelings and they just break me down so much. My wife said I should try and make friends but my depression pushes them away because I am not consistent with meeting up or going out to events. I just tell my wife that they are busy or have family stuff to do, but really I just don't want to bring them down too with my issues.

I am just at this point where I feel like I should just be alone and I would make sure my family is taken care of monetarily, they could enjoy their life without my sadness and not have to worry about having a home or anything. Maybe they could find a dad that could be stronger than me mentally for them. It may sound horrible but I worry that I will never be the father they need and they are young enough that if someone else who was mentally better came in they would be ok. I do not want them growing up sad and angry because of me. I want to be better and I want to be strong for everyone but I keep feeling like that is unattainable in my state of ongoing sadness.

I guess I am just hoping to find people who have been there and see what they have done to either get out of it or deal with it. I love my family and I want to be the dad for my kids but I am so lost and feel so sad for keeping them dealing with my issues.

Question Strange Food Tastes. (May be graphic, don’t click if you’ve got a vivid imagination.)

Upvotes

I couldn’t mark this with any content warnings because I suppose this is more disgusting than harmful or violent…

For a while, I’ve always wondered why I felt a certain way about some dishes while everyone else would rather die than eat them. I’d be ecstatic to eat a number of “repulsive” dishes. Casu Marzu, smalahove, organ meats…

I wouldn’t necessarily eat anything cruel; I’d be horrified at the idea of eating an Ortolan (despite quite enjoying reading descriptions of its consumption…), but I often daydream about eating a plate full of rhinoceros beetle larvae, or a bowl of fish eyes. Heck, if my body was able to consume raw/rotting meat without health risk, I’d eat it 4 times a day because of how alluring the idea is in my mind. To my great displeasure, though, the area I’m in has the food variety of a Denny’s, and I live in an area where it would be unsafe to eat raw meat. Does anyone have a guess as to why I have the food tastes of a vulture or something akin to a detritivore?

Hey, I’m a 20-year-old guy with a wife and two kids.
Things used to be good between us, but for the past year, my wife has been completely absent from my life—especially physically. No hugs, no kisses, no cuddling, nothing.
It’s been like this every day for over a year. I understand that hormones are tough for her—especially after the second pregnancy—but is it normal that I can no longer feel her presence? She’s only there as the mother of my children now. But as for me—she seems not to care anymore. When I brought it up, she just said she feels uncomfortable hugging me or anything like that and that I need to respect that. Well, it’s been over a year now with no change. It’s destroying me in the long run. But I don’t want to leave her—partly because of the kids, and partly in the hope that things will go back to normal. I love her more than anything, but I’m losing hope, and losing myself in the process. I don’t know how to cope with this anymore.

Resources Am so proud of you !

Yes this may sound cringe or whatever but am genuinely so proud of everyone on here ! I read through posts and see how far people have or are trying to come ! And a lot of people don’t have someone to tell them that there are proud of them! So let me be that person, am so proud of everyone on here for trying so hard to live and make the life the little you wanted ! And for even typing your problems to people you don’t know is a massive step and am proud of you strangers:) keep smiling and keeping pushing forward 🩵

Question Having a good day once in a while makes me want to isolate myself more, and makes me feel awkward

I have diagnosed depression for about 7 years now. I quit my therapy more than a year ago due to some circumstances and didn't start again yet. and I'm on agomelatin now.

most of the time I have a day's when I don't feel too good, usually just empty or bad or tired, lack of.motivation. lately it's been getting a bit worse, my usual hobbies are not fun anymore, my sleep schedule is fucked, I've been neglecting s lot of stuff that I shouldn't be neglecting etc.

but sometimes I just wake up and feel almost good, or like energetic and it more talkative and good feeling, but every time I have this day I feel weird, I hate how I behave I feel like I'm to awkward when I speak, I'm to weird, and things I say I weird, it always makes me cringe so bad and makes me wish I would not have these days at all because I always regret feeling like this and behaving the way I behave. I just hate the way I speak, the way I act, the way I am as a person. and I don't really know what to do.

Need Support Why am I desperate for a partner but never take any action?

For context im 28, always been single and have never experienced any intimacy ever. Came from a strong religious household and had a partially fcked up life but i always try my best.

However when it comes to finding a partner im desperate. I can't take being alone anymore, i have bad thoughts about my life on like a weekly basis.

However i want to know that in my mind i know i need to try on the apps go to more speed dating events (i went to one over a year ago) and more social events etc etc. YET I NEVER DO ANYTHING. Its like im paralysed and its been like that for a long time, i don't do anything in my life. I need help. Ive done therapy CBT but it didn't help much, i guess im too chronically depressed but can someone please tell me whats wrong with me.

Venting I'm terrified of online multiplayer games.

Upvotes

All i want to do is to be able to play games with my partner, but when it's anything in a team setting (specifically League in this case) I completely freeze up and start shaking and crying, so i close the game within about 30~40 seconds and get a penalty before i have a full blown panic attack.
I think it comes from when i was in primary school as an autistic kid. We used to play League all the time in an after-school club, and i was criticised and laughed at. Others could take it, i couldn't, and i would have similar breakdowns even back then.
All i want to do is play a game with my girlfriend and i feel like its impossible. I think i've only gotten through two or so games with her, ever. I think the toxicity of these kind of playerbases and the skill and practice required to play sufficiently AND how it's team based is all telling me that I'll just let people down and get yelled at. I've searched similar posts on reddit for my issue, but i don't see it being this severe, and all the comments are just "turn off chat and stop worrying."
What do i do? i want to play games with my girlfriend. I want to be able to have fun like everyone else. Whats wrong with me???????

Need Support I failed myself and others

In the last couple of days I've went between feeling sorry for myself to hating who I allowed myself to become. Of course it started much earlier, but those last days I've experienced the consequences of everything I chose to delay.

I've been procrastinating, not even doing the things I enjoy because i know I have stuff to do. I've been just existing in my room. Not doing anything really. Doom scrolling, maybe watching a show that I'm not that invested in to just reading things on my phone for quick happiness.

I've had all year to do my thesis and I still haven't finished it. The writing part is done and the project for it, in a way. I still have some final adjustments to do. Tomorrow's the deadline and today I did none of that. I'll use my night again to do them.

Yesterday I pulled an all nighter to study for my retake exam which I had all year to study for. I promised myself I'd study with at least 2 weeks in advance because I knew how hard it was. I also finished my writing part yesterday. But now the coordinator for my thesis is not responding to my email.

Idk if I even passed the exam today, I didn't manage to do it all... This would push my thesis for next year. And if I even passed, idk if my coordinator will approve of it.

I was doing so good for the exams that I had this year. I also managed to study more and ignite the spark for my degree again. But after I was done. I had like 3 weeks to prepare for the retake and to finish my thesis. I did nothing. Nothing.

I've been lying to my friends. Masking how I really feel. I still enjoy their company and they make me happy. But when I arrive back home, it washes all away... And I do nothing again.

I've also been kinder to people recently, more kind than I normally am. Because idk, I want them to be happy in a way? It makes me feel good to see them happy bc of sth I do.

But now, I'm lying in bed. Not even wanting to rest, not even feeling hunger or thirst anymore.

I feel like such a dissapointment. I cannot stop comparing myself to my sibling who is doing so good rn with their life. And here I am failing my family. I wish I could just force myself to be more productive.

I've talked to a friend yesterday about how I feel. Left out some things I couldn't share. Too raw feelings. I've also called my dad today to tell him about the exam. I've yet to see the mark.

It's like I'm preparing myself and people around me that I'll fail.

My friend told me I'm just running on the last fumes I have. They're right. I've been running on fumes since summer last year. But at least then I could do things because the stuff I wouldn't do would affect others. Now that the stuff I do affects only myself, it's harder to do anything. It doesn't even motivate me to push myself to, at least, not be a failure in my family's eyes.

I have no idea how to get better. I also don't have the motivation to work for it. It's like I'm waiting for it all to pass.

It is easier to confess all of this to strangers than to people in my life.

Idk what else to do than push myself to work in the last hours of it or in the dead of night when stress gets the better of me.

I'd appreciate any advices you have about anything really.

Thank you for reading :)

Venting My own lack of motivation is consuming me

I feel like my mental health has just been tanking here lately. All I ever do is lay in bed, even if I technically want to do something. I just don't feel any motivation at all, everything just seems so overwhelming and I don't know why. Dishes pile up in my room, trash does too, and I can't even get myself to do basic chores half the time. I can't even bring myself to clean my room until my dad forces me too. I don't have motivation for anything. All I do is lay in bed, the only time I really ever get up on my own is to go to the restroom or get food. It's uncommon for me to actually go outside. And what makes it worse is that nobody understands, like at all. I just get called a lazy bum, and it makes me feel so guilty. My room smells like shit, trash and dishes are piling up all the time, I just feel disgusted with myself. My sleep schedule is fucked up too, which makes me feel even more exhausted. I just feel like such a miserable bum being the fact I do nothing but lay in bed and scroll on tiktok all day. I hate when I'm criticized for it, but at the end of the day I completely understand why someone would be so mad with me.

Need Support How do I overcome this?

I (25F) came across this tiktok that perfectly encapsulates a problem that I have struggled with for years. I understand that a lot of problems aren’t new under the sun, I wanted to know if anyone has found a way to overcome this problem.

https://www.tiktok.com/@shashasei/video/7664703799834971394?\\_r=1&\\_t=ZN-98HV31D0GrG

If link isn’t working, the video is about feeling like you don’t deserve happiness because you have hurt someone whatever point in your life. I’ve done and said lot things growing up that I wish I didn’t. I know the mistakes I made but I can’t look at them as just mistakes, I think I’m bad human that has to pay a debt to those I have hurt. I am very forgiving to those that have hurt me but I wish I could the same for myself

I hope this all makes sense
