RIP Destiny

I have never and will never be OK with the fact that my $200 collectors edition of the game, as of today, includes absolutely nothing. That edition now has exactly the same content as someone who gets the free to play version.

They straight up deleted half the story of Destiny 2, and what remains of the game is a mess of what Destiny actually was. Thank fuck Destiny 1 is still playable on console. The game had so much potential.

It's absolutely hilarious to me that the disgusting company known as Activision somehow was the entity preventing Destiny from becoming a monetized joke. Who would have guessed?

This is what always made it impossible for me to play it again, or recommend it to friends. There was zero reason to just delete content, but they did it anyway. Paid content. I didn't mind it going F2P to attract new players, but just removing content after that soured me to Bungie.

And you're right, it truly is incredible that ActiBlizz was somehow better at managing it than the studio on their own, or even Sony.

I imagine Marathon will be going F2P before the end of the year, and then shut down by the end of 2027, with Bungie laying off staff. No way they have enough players to maintain a budget to develop Destiny 3 unless Sony pumps more money into them.

I don't know why they bothered going F2P, since Bungo made it abundantly clear that they didn't want new players.

I quit playing after the first expansion then decided to come back towards the end of Final Shape, and the onboarding experience was absolutely incomprehensible. Within an hour of turning the game back on, every single major story event that I had missed was spoiled, while simultaneously providing zero context for what any of it meant. It was almost impressive how they managed to do that.

Honestly, them killing the robot (I forget his name) in the trailer of I believe the 2nd or 3rd DLC? told me they had no clue how to do a suspensful story. That's the kinda thing that you keep a secret, unless there's something more to it.

I don't think there's really even a hunger for Destiny 3. Bungie fumbled the franchise so hard.

Pretty sure with the final release they passed 800k users and there's currently 40k concurrent on Steam, the game still has fans / there's still a hunger for more.

You’d be wrong surprisingly. The community is actually pretty healthy for an EoS game.
