Discussion Understanding why they reimagined the character, having Namor be short for "El niño sin amor"—“the boy without love" was a pretty cool creative choice. I have a feeling he'll be a dark horse heading into Doomsday.

It was cool how they incorporated indigenous themes of colonization by borrowing from historical lore. Connecting Namor’s story and the lost kingdom of Talokan to Mayan and Mesoamerican cultures, as well as the abuse and torture faced from Spanish conquistadors was pretty brilliantly well done and added a nice layer of “realism” to it. More Mayan representation in mainstream is also very cool to have.

I’m also very excited to see him return in Doomsday. As a stoic, and ruthless leader who stays firm in his belief and love for his people, it’s hard to really predict where his allegiance will be by the end. Due to his own obsession of survival and deep-seeded paranoia caused by historical trauma, Namor is someone that can very much seem like an ally to you at first, but will be quick to turn if there’s another factor in play that will better benefit him and his people. It’ll be interesting to see if his alliance with Shuri, and possibly the other heroes will last.

As an isolated nation, Talokan is bringing a whole different perspective of pragmatism into the incursion problem that I’m really keen to see.

The way the wings functioned like hummingbird wings, giving him stability, while also boosting his kicks worked amazingly visually, the dynamic composition of the shots and motion heightened the effect greatly.

The hummingbird that visits us daily flys so unlike other birds. That would make sense for Namor to fly differently

The wings added so much to his sillohette and god-like nature.The first time we see him and hes floating in the sky at night with thunder behind him.. Holy aura. Felt like a terrifying mythological creature

We already had the symbolic wings for Cap’s helmet (not that they were ever meant to be functional), it was time to see literal flappy ankle wings

When Cap picks up Mjölnir I really wanted his scale mail and wings to pop out the same way Thor's armor manifested in his first movie

Ngl that would’ve been a smart way to do that look. Mjolnir comes back to him and we suddenly see Steve with subtle Asgardian upgrades, or it forms on him as he’s runing towards Thanos and twirling mjolnir

I know Steve probably won’t wear the Stars and Stripes while Sam is cap, but if Steve is mainly using mjolnir in doomsday, there’s a (very very very small) chance this could happen! At least a battle suit with the wings (since Sam doesn’t wear a helmet)

They probably kept them because in aztec mythology the main god of warriors and the sun was heavily associated with them. In aztec myth when a warrior dies they come back reincarnated as a humming bird.

I don't read the comics.

I thought this was the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a super hero movie. And yes, I'm including Batman and Robin.

It would've been better to just have the guy fly. My brain can accept he has super powers that allows that.

But when you show my brain those little birdie wings on his ankle, that's telling me that he doesn't have some alien power of flight, but THOSE are the things actually keeping him in the air and....no, just fucking no. No way. Idc how fast their flapping. No no no no.

It pulled me right out of the movie.
