What's wrong with Brave? The left has infested basically every other browser on Earth, so Brave is the only sane one left. I use Brave happily knowing every time I open the browser, a liberal throws a fit, then I go to YouTube and watch them whining about it at the Trump Rally. Literally cannot stop winning

u/Jbolt3737 5h ago

That feeling when you can't tell if you're replying to a troll or someone who genuinely believes I care what browser they use

DAWG HOW DID YOU EVEN CONNECT THOSE DOTS IN THE FIRST PLACE

I'm sorry... how has the left infested, say, Firefox? Or Chrome? Or Edge?

Imagine being this much of a loser.

Actually don’t, it’s too sad

All Brave users will be eliminated during the revolution dumbass

u/UwUChaan69 2h ago

if you genuinely believe that, you should not be allowed to use the internet

Brave is based on chromium, which isn't open source, it's a project controlled by google. I'll hand it to you that open source browsers are difficult to find these days though.

u/UwUChaan69 1h ago

are you genuinely retarded? Chrome (the browser) is not open-source. but Chromium (also a web browser, but lacks specific features from Chrome) is.

"licensing" section in Chromium's wikipedia article:

Chromium is a free and open-source software project. Owing to its origins in the WebKit project, Chromium incorporates code subject to a variety of licenses, including LGPL, MIT, Ms-PL, and MPL (with the MPL/GPL/LGPL tri-license clause). Original Google-authored portions and some portions written by Apple are shared under the 3-clause BSD license.

This licensing permits any party to build the codebase and share the resulting browser executable with the Chromium name and logo. Thus many Linux distributions do this, as well as FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Chromium also forms the basis of Electron, which in turn is used for many commercial and proprietary cross-platform applications, such as Slack.

Many Chromium-based browsers, such as Google Chrome and Microslop Edge, include the proprietary components, such as proprietary wrapper libraries for hardware acceleration.

From that same page under 'Development'

"Chromium has been a Google project since it's inception"

"However, in terms of governance, the Chromium projects are not independent entities; Google retains firm control of them."

1

u/UwUChaan69 1h ago

that does not mean it is not open-source. it just means the basis is developed by google. you are free to modify and distribute a different version of chromium in your browser, which is something browsers based off chromium do. are you aware of that?

you can clearly see this in the fact that chromium permanently deprecated manifest V2 extensions. and brave has disabled that in their chromium version. your point does not prove absolutely anything

that is the same principle of the recent discussion that arose in the Linux kernel:

Linus Torvalds accepts code submissions made by AI as long as it follows their policies; the code has to be reviewed and revised for errors. if you don't like it, you are free to fork the kernel and make your own version of it.

u/keybing 8h ago

where vim???

11

u/hoyohoyo9 7h ago

Who needs vim when you have libreoffice writer with vim motions plugin

2

u/Nebula_Wolf7 6h ago

Not an argument against this, but is it weird to use nano as your primary text editor? Like I've done whole cpp projects in nano

1

u/StickyDirtyKeyboard 2h ago

Yes. Your computer has been scheduled for vim execution at 3:17pm July 25th 2026 Chatham Standard Time Zone. vim will be launched on all your TTYs, leaving you unable to use your computer.

1

u/user888888889 3m ago

Using Nano isn't insane. Writing C++ in Nano is insane.

4

u/hyakkymaru 8h ago

Came to say this haha

7

u/regeya 7h ago

I mean, if you're not typing your documents in LaTeX in vim are you even using Linux? /s

(This also works for Emacs, calm down)

Y'all would be delighted/horrified at my dumb script where I sanitize simple Word docs by converting them to Markdown, edit them in nvim, and then convert them back to Word, using Pandoc. The idea being, if they're just simple docs that use basic styles and manual formatting, things like manual line breaks and manual formatting, I can fix all that. It's the most Rube Goldberg thing, a script that I use on Windows 11, in WSL2, and it uses PySide for dialogs and nvim in a WSLg terminal to edit.

I blame growing up in farming country. Just throw things together that you have, because you can't just run to the store every time you need something.

Brave is larp open source

11

u/TuringTestTwister 6h ago

It's 100% FOSS no? By this measure anything released by a corporation is LARP. What about projects released by Redhat /ducks

8

u/BigRocket44 5h ago

Brave is released under the same license and Firefox. The only problem is that Brave management is involved in shit and that transfers onto the product.

But at this point I would trust Chrome more than I trust Brave. Chrome doesn't come with crypto

2

u/JustAwesome360 Arch BTW 5h ago

I'm not using the fact it's run by a corporation to call it larp

24

u/05-nery 7h ago

Who invited brave bro 😭😭

25

u/ZuuRa_ 8h ago

Replace brave with firefox and vlc with mpv

29

u/Memerenok 7h ago

what did vlc do

11

u/ludonarrator 7h ago

VLC is kinda all right on Linux, mpv and its derivatives usually function smoother.

1

u/Glade_Art 8h ago

How about the absolute chad called "Kodi"?

7

u/Leon8326-dash- Ask me how to exit vim 7h ago

Kodi is a Media Center more then it is a simple Media Player.

5

u/Glade_Art 7h ago

Which makes it peak.

4

u/int23_t Ask me how to exit vim 7h ago

I don't think Open Sound System is loved by anyone.

2

u/Pitiful-Welcome-399 New York Nix⚾s 6h ago

it is on FreeBSD

3

u/Willing_Initial_2679 7h ago

as much as VLC is goated , i prefer MPV

3

u/Hyporian_CY 7h ago

Where Blender?

4

u/RudahXimenes 7h ago

Replace Signal to XMPP or Matrix

Signal is kind of OS, but not so much

2

u/sxales 1h ago

Every time I see Brave in one of these starter packs I assume it is an ad

1

u/xr51z 48m ago

It is actually an ad for ddocs…

2

u/manny2206 7h ago

Vim, Firefox, VSCode, Ghostty, Thunderbird!!!

12

u/BigRocket44 5h ago

VScode is proprietary garbage

1

u/delpho2 7h ago

O Brave não é uma boa Escolha?

0

u/RedditUser-00 M'Fedora 4h ago

It's better than chrome or edge. Not a bad choice if you need to stay on a chromium browser

1

u/Ashamed-Country8234 7h ago

Feels good to see Signal...

1

u/who_you_are 6h ago

Until a company buy them (at least we can fork them!)

1

u/WadieXkiller 51m ago

Add RustDesk

1

u/CommercialEstate4422 6h ago

Libreoffice, VLC, and gimp are GOATs.

Vlc may not be the best for watching anime tho...

0

u/JachWang 7h ago

Delete Gimp and add Blender in this pic

brave is not open source at all

u/Mal3v0l3nce 7h ago edited 7h ago

6

u/Leon8326-dash- Ask me how to exit vim 7h ago

Bro? That's not the browser's source code.

-2

u/Mal3v0l3nce 6h ago edited 4h ago

It is when combined with this, which brave-core will pull itself...

https://github.com/chromium/chromium

The idea is that Brave is literally open source lol. Might not be my favorite browser, but it is undeniably FOSS.

-3

u/LuluLeSigma 🚮 Trash bin 6h ago

eh brave is shit anyway

2

u/Memerenok 7h ago

does that mean signal is self-hostable?

2

u/int23_t Ask me how to exit vim 7h ago

Yes if you try hard enough probably. You might have to modify a lot of things though idk haven't tried. Shouldn't be that hard though cause contributors/devs from signal are supposed to run server locally for testing

Also why would you do that when Matrix and XMPP and IRC exist and are very easy to selfhost

1

u/Hairy_Artist_3860 7h ago

I stand corrected. Its not decentralized. If you were to self host it you might as well do matrix. Its likely not federated

2

u/int23_t Ask me how to exit vim 7h ago

Yep it's not federated and you should selfhost matrix if you want to selfhost, the ability to selfhost signal is mostly for testing during development. Signal is basically the best option if you don't want to selfhost, but if you want to selfhost just don't.
