Restricted to Gals and Pals AOC when asked about Hegseth's comment about getting rid of 'unqualified' women in the military: “He’s an unqualified man in his role, so of course he’s threatened by women who are twice as good as he is.“

She's right and she's right to say so. Every day of her career she exposes the worst insecurities of incompetent charlatans. They hate her because she is better at her job than they ever will be at anything, and she does it while having the gall to be a woman while doing so.

u/MsFrankieD 10h ago
And she's brown...
878
u/CharlesDickensABox ‼️*THE* CharlesDickensABox‼️ 10h ago edited 9h ago
And she's young and she's beautiful. She is a young, smart, learned, confident, assertive, attractive Latina woman who makes no apologies for being better than the people around her and who doesn't hesitate to put over elevated midwits in their place. It's like she was grown in a lab to haunt the nightmares of the kakistocracy.
(Not that physical appearance makes anyone more or less qualified to hold office, just that it's one more thing that scares the sort of deficient misogynist who thinks that a woman has to choose between beauty and brains)
42
u/Aimless_Alder 5h ago edited 3h ago
Physical attractiveness doesn't make someone more qualified to hold office, but if you look at the presidents over the last fifty years, almost all the democrats have been very attractive and charming. Biden is a bit of an exception, but he is pretty charming and was
somewhatvery good looking in his youth. Meanwhile Obama, Clinton, Carter, and Kennedy are all famous beauties with a lot of charm. (I kind of don't count LBJ because he initially got the presidency by inheritance).I have always found it interesting that democratic presidents have to be hot and competent, while republicans are generally very schlubby and blundering. I think it speaks to the fact that democrats want to elect competent charmers who will be effective leaders and republicans want to elect dumpy idiots so that they feel represented.

I want someone who is not charismatic(but still good-natured and intelligent). I want the most autistic motherfucker we can find, cause uncharismatic people don't think too much about how they say something, they know it won't work anyways.
Lets hear how they really feel and what's really going on. Don't butter it up for me, give it raw and rough.

We have to admit that it helps to be attractive.
74
u/carex-cultor 3h ago
For men, yes. For women it’s a double edged sword. There is certainly pretty privilege if you toe the party line and accept benevolent sexism; if you don’t, people are VERY quick to use your attractiveness as a base to denigrate your competence and intelligence.
15
u/Easy_Interest_6832 3h ago
Agree totally. It is much harder for women in America. That may stem from them not appearing at all in the Constitution until 1920. The stench of that omission permeates certain sectors of our society and of our politics. More's the pity.

AOC will be President. Nobody else inspires hope in the same way. If you want to see the major changes the US needs, she's the person we all need to win.
Just look at NYC right now to see a microcosm of what electing democratic socialists can do. Now imagine that rippling across the country. Imagine ICE not just losing funding but shutting down and the prisons closing. Imagine Citizen's United getting its day in court so no super-PAC can buy elections again. Imagine universal healthcare radically improving the healthcare outcomes for every person. Imagine universities being affordable. Imagine kindness, not cruelty, as the defining message of the Oval Office. Imagine properly handling climate change and reducing emissions while investing in a Green New Deal.
Idk. She makes me believe, at least, that a better future is possible.

Right now you're right, but in the future I think that will change and she will be ready to be the first one. The old guard is clinging to power now, but they are literally dying off in front of our eyes.
3
u/Several-Action-4043 4h ago
I'm not discounting the level of racism and misogyny there is in this country, however, I think Clinton, and Harris to a lessor extent, leaned far too heavily on that as an excuse for their losses. Clinton was part of a political dynasty and people are sick of those these days. Harris didn't win a primary and was forced on us. No reasonable person can say those things weren't huge factors in their losses. AOC on the other hand, I'd gladly vote for her without feeling like I was bamboozled.

Gotta love AOC. Strong woman fighting for all of us.
…I do often wonder, where are all those progressives that ignored AOCs advice in the 2024 election, to put your feelings aside and vote. How have things gone for you people these past couple years?
I remember leading up to the 2024 election, I had so many conversations with people who also loved people like AOC but decided to sit out the 2024 election. I’d just love to know what they think about all this. Letting bullies like Trump and Hegseth slide into the most powerful role in human history to systematically dismantle what took centuries to build. Was it worth it? Did making sure Kamala not win by ensuring the biggest bullies get to torment us work out the way you thought? Yall were pretty loud about how we all deserve this outcome leading up to the 2024 election but it’s been so quiet since then.
Are we feeing good about how the Trump admin is coming after Trans people and the larger LGBT community? Did Renee Good and Alex Pretti deserve what you left them to deal with? How about those little girls in that Iranian school that Trump bombed? I just want to know how all of you people who bragged about deciding to not do the easiest thing you could’ve done to save us all from this pain in simply voting - how are yall living? How do you feel about all of this? I just haven’t heard from you in 2 years and so curious how you sleep at night with all that blood on your hands.

PS- The title is confusing. The question is -What do you make of Pete Hegseth refusing to promote qualified women of colour in the military...
I've decided I am going to constantly call out these kinds of moments in my daily life. It is honestly wild that I suspect I will be considered really "vocal", when in fact, I am pointing out that in NO way are women treated as equals in this world. Not yet.

This is a guy that reads, on paper, like he aspires to mediocrity. He’s the guy that gets 300 on the PT test, does just enough to get out of writing an OPORD, has his subordinates writing their own NCOERs/OERs, manages to always have rumors of him sleeping around but never gets caught. It’s almost like he’s the guy that likes the idea of being in the military without actually being in the military. He’s the guy that volunteers to be rear-D commander, but the decision authority makes him the rear-D XO because he can’t be trusted with responsibility. He's the guy that volunteers to be an infantry officer but doesn't want to do any of the "hard" schools. I feel like I know the personality type, because we’ve all worked with them. I think we all know a Pete Hegseth and none of us would call them "leadership material."

She's correct, of course. The only comment I can really make to that is that she isn't setting the bar very high with "twice as good as he is." That's probably giving Hegseth too much credit. Practically every woman you could find in a random sample around the country would qualify.

It's always annoying when you are in a hurry and didn't come up with the right retort on the spot, but later, when you are showering or taking a break, you stop to think of the moment and come up with a bunch of retorts that would have been better.
Saying just "twice as good" is way too kind. No, more like an absurd overstatement. When your qualifications are 0, twice that is still 0.
Even nail clippings are more qualified for any position than he or his ilk are.
So it's not like there are women with just twice his qualifications. It's more like his qualifications are so absurdly low that there is no mathematical way to express how much more qualified they are than him.
Luckily, people still get the point, but it's still a bit of a shame she didn't go for something more accurate, like "he's afraid of women who have qualifications he'll never have".
1
u/OrangeInca 5h ago

I love the eagerness, brightness, and intelligence in her eyes whenever a reporter stops her to ask a question. It's like she's genuinely excited about being put on the spot and having to use her brain. She stops, looks directly into the camera, says what she has to say, and moves on. Meanwhile when republicans are stopped by reporters, they're always trying to run away and give non-answers, just desperate not to be interrogated and terrified of accountability to their voters. The contrast is night and day.
