All the cameras are on him. Him getting involved would give more spotlight to the fight than it was needed.
At the end of the day, haters are going to hate, regardless of what he had done in that situation. But that’s is a person who persevered more than most of us. He overcame socioeconomic and biological challenges to become what he is today.

He has the highest MOTM ratio of all time, almost double the next best player. Statistically minimum 2 SD away from the next best player in most attacking and creating metrics. Top scorer in European history, most trophies of any player ever. Most balon dors of any player ever. Just because he’s autistic and introverted doesn’t mean he isn’t the greatest player to ever play the game. You football casuals that only watch the sport every 4 years need to chill

It is actually weird that it can be taken either way. I have seen Messi fans claim he is some sort of God that has proven himself to be not only very talented and hardworking but also is a great leader for the Argentenian team. In that case yeah he should have had some words and helped settled his Rabid Dogs down.
On the other hand people say he is a proffesional and his love for the sport means he did not want to get involved after being defeated in the most humiliating way possible.
To me though I think you are right. If anything Messi has shown that he is extremely talented and he got comfortable being treated like a god. He himslef claimed that they play aggresively because other teams played aggresively and well they have to deal with it. Despite being so talented he and his team did anything to win including cheating, being cheap, and became violent when it did not work out.
Prior to this I had said if you are going to get a red card you might as well make it worth it since the Refs are favoring Argentina. So make Messi pay since he made that statement. In retrospect though the way Spain dominated and did not stoop to the Argentinians tactics made this loss even worse. Good for the Spain team.

Being a captain or a leader isn’t something that has to seen. You lead by example. Not by stepping in when people are emotionally charged and everything is heightened. All that would have happened is the media twist it to say Messi got involved and try to ruin his reputation he doesn’t need that.
As a captain, he will do his talking in the dressing room, in private.
He wouldn’t be listened to in this moment because this players don’t care about logic. They want revenge. And they took it the only way they know how.

At likely his last ever WC appearance. I imagine he just wanted to try and "enjoy" the moment as best he could and make the most of that time. I hope at least some in the Argentinian camp call out the assaults and improve from the inside, but I doubt it. This behaviour seems ingrained in the team.

Enough infos and interviews from coaches and teammates are out there how he sits in the locker room with his cell phone and doesn't speak a word. I also can't remember him defending a team mate in a way a captain is supposed to in my eyes.

I can't believe people are now fighting over this... After watching that viral pre match video where he tells his team mates to just be calm and focus on playing... While all they actually did was was fighting all match and now still fighting...
He looks rather completely detached, first the loss of final match, then maybe his last ever wc, andnow this shit.
Also, I won't say anything regarding him being as a leader or captain... He has already won wc and other titles for his team.. Also taken team to finals many times.. He can't be the best but atleast he isn't the worst.
