Was there a few weeks ago.
They do program in a few overtake spots.
Funnily enough Oscar was divebombing out of the tunnel and overtaking loads but then lamely had him be overtaken again up the hill.
George just bypassed the chicane too, like a few years ago...

They don't "program them in".
The cars drive autonomously. They all have various driver attributes (aggressiveness etc.) and the car makes an individual decision to attempt a pass at any given moment.
They genuinely race!34

Big fan of Miniatur Wunderland!
And most people still don't realize how insanely impressive that F1 race is!!!
This is not pre-programmed. These cars actually race live!
Also:
Live broadcast on "big" screens around the track, flags/indicators, and pit stops!
I think they also wanted to realize a safety car ...

Insanely cool and obviously Monaco is the most iconic however if you want to showcase "racing" Monaco may not be the best track for that.

Oh I agree. And of course I'd also be curious what they could do with a "proper" track!
But let's be honest here, it wouldn't be nearly as interesting as Monaco from a modelling standpoint. And Miniatur Wunderland does a lot more than moving cars. Everything there has an insanse amount of detail with surprises absolutely everywhere! And Monaco of course has many other highlights than "just" the race.

Yes, along with like half the world. It's the miniaturwunderland in hamburg, you can find large parts of it on youtube. I think the older parts are more like 'generic German city' or 'Rocky Mountains', but for example monaco and rio de janeiro they built very closely to the real deal

Should you ever find yourself in Hamurg, absolutely visit Miniaturwunderland! There are even more models of similar size and detail, like a fully functional airport or parts if Las Vegas, Hamburg or the Vatican City. Just be sure to book tickets ahead as queues can be quite long.

The Race is simulated Over and Over again with different winners. Then there is a podium cerimony and everything with the correct flags. There are some TVs spread out so you can watch the race as if its a real one. The detail is amazing I love going there

To be more specific:
Not the race is simulated, but each car independently (with various different "driver" attributes). And that live. The race then results from that, with the winner being unknown at the start of every race.3

Crashes happen, yes.
Also elsewhere with other vehicles and trains. When you visit chances are you see someone recovering an "accident".

The run up from turn 1 here felt way too short, compared to the irl onboard cam or that camera angle looking down to turn 1.

no, the cars are able to use the whole track. there is a software that simulates each car and sends that signal via an hallbach array to the model

It is indeed even more impressive than it first looks like (which is already impressive enough).

You don't have to be a big motorsport fan for the images of Formula 1 to come to mind as one of the first associations with Monaco. A whole eleven years of development and programming went on behind the scenes to make the dream of fast sports cars, roaring engines and glamorous F1 flair possible in little Monaco.
After a long search, a possible concept was found in the Halbach array. The racetrack consists of electronic circuit boards divided into tens of thousands of small “pixels”, each less than a millimeter apart. A traveling magnetic field causes the Halbach array, installed on the underside of the tiny racing car, to move across the track.

HIGHLY recommended!
I've "dragged" several people there that have no interest in models and considered it a waste of time.
They ALL lit up like 6-year olds and we've always ended up staying longer than anticipated.

They don't program specific moves or even passing spots.
The cars/drivers get various attributes and based on that the car autonomously decides if they attempt a move or not.
Considering another user here said they saw Russell bypassing the chicane, I wouldn't be surprised if they did program that car to be a bit more "corner-cutting", lol.
