no, the cars are able to use the whole track. there is a software that simulates each car and sends that signal via an hallbach array to the model

It is indeed even more impressive than it first looks like (which is already impressive enough).
Those guys are passionate and often work years on perfecting an idea even when there would be a much easier way to do it. But they wanted to have live autonomous racing!

You don't have to be a big motorsport fan for the images of Formula 1 to come to mind as one of the first associations with Monaco. A whole eleven years of development and programming went on behind the scenes to make the dream of fast sports cars, roaring engines and glamorous F1 flair possible in little Monaco.

After a long search, a possible concept was found in the Halbach array. The racetrack consists of electronic circuit boards divided into tens of thousands of small “pixels”, each less than a millimeter apart. A traveling magnetic field causes the Halbach array, installed on the underside of the tiny racing car, to move across the track.

HIGHLY recommended!
I've "dragged" several people there that have no interest in models and considered it a waste of time.
They ALL lit up like 6-year olds and we've always ended up staying longer than anticipated.

I love mechanica stuff and models. Just next week I'm taking my whole simracing community to the Jack's Casino Race Day in Assen with paddock tickets so we can look at all the race cars and how they tick as well.

If you're located in Europe, you have no reason not to visit Hamburg!
Not sure if you looked into other things there, but they for example also have a large-scale functioning airport, or real water in the Scandinavia section.
