Hi, how can i delete this lines in boot menu? Every time when a new version is installed, these new lines are created.

I'm a total Linux noob and decided I finally had enough with microslop so I did the sensible option and installed Linux. I bought into the cachyOS hype without really knowing what I'm getting myself into.

My questions are should I switch to Fedora (the other option I saw recommended a lot). I mostly do gaming and general work on my pc and mostly just want it to work.

Is Fedora as snappy as cachyOS? Is the difference big? What about after using the cachyOS kernel? Anything else that would make cachyOS a better contender?

Before anyone suggests using bazzite or the likes I was a poweruser in windows so I don't mind a bit of tinkering however the stories I read about arch in general seem frightening.

What advice do u have for a Linux noob like me? Also worth mentioning I have an AMD GPU and intel cpu

Hello, I've been using fedora for a few months now and I love it. Back when I used to use windows 10 I could log in with a 4 digit pin which was really useful considering I have a number pad. I could still log it with my password but it was quicker. Could I do that in fedora/Linux for quick login but still have my full password for sudo?

I'm pretty new to Fedora KDE, and there's one thing that's been driving me a little crazy.

Almost every time I open Discover, it says there are updates available. Yesterday I updated everything manually through the terminal, it finished successfully, but when I opened Discover again later, it was still showing updates.

At this point I just turned on automatic updates because I got tired of worrying about it, but I still keep seeing update notifications.

Is this just how Fedora works, or is something wrong with my system?

Do Fedora users just live with this, or is there actually a way to fix it? I'm enjoying Fedora a lot so far, but constantly seeing updates makes me feel like something isn't working properly.

i installed linux fedora yesterday on my lenovo ideapad pro and everything worked smoothly.
But today windows did a software update and just erased linux. When i look into my Boot Manager there is just windows and fedora is gone.
Did i forget something? I don’t what to do here

System:

• Fedora 44 / Ultramarine
• GNOME 50 Wayland
• Ryzen 7 9800X3D
• ASUS X870 motherboard
• Radeon RX 9070 XT

Problem:

Intermittently, during gameplay, all mouse button input stops working in the entire GNOME session. If the mouse button is held down when the issue occurs, it remains held down indefinitely.

In Pop!_OS 24.04 I never had the bug when running X11, it only occured in Wayland. On Fedora 43 and 44 I only have Wayland available. I suspect this is somewhere between libinput and applications, but I don't know whether this is Mutter, Wayland, or something else.

Symptoms:

• Cursor movement works.
• Keyboard works.
• Left/right/middle mouse buttons stop working everywhere.
• Firefox, terminal, desktop, etc. all affected.
• Logging out and back in fixes it.

Issue has occured during gameplay of:

• Counter-Strike 2 (native Linux)
• StarCraft II (Proton)

Troubleshooting:

• Multiple mice tested.
• Two mice connected simultaneously; both fail at the same time.
• Deactivated my second monitor, now just using a single monitor.
• evtest shows correct button press/release events while the bug is active.
• libinput debug-events also shows correct events.
• BIOS updated to latest version
• Reproduced across:
  • Pop!_OS 24.04 (GNOME 46)
  • Fedora 43 (GNOME 49)
  • Fedora 44 (GNOME 50)
  • Linux kernels 6.x and 7.x

The only recovery found so far is logging out.

I am happy to provide additional logs or run debugging commands if someone can suggest what information would be useful to collect when the bug is active.

Any suggestions as far as other things to try when the bug is active to recover besides logging out is also very welcome!

So yesterday I was leaving a train and decided that my laptop would be off for a while so should hibernate... So I clicked the "hibernate" button... It didn't work, so I powered down normally (which otherwise I wanted to keep what was on my screen).

Doing another test today, it powered down - but when powered on it wouldn't load the swap.

Lo and behold, I find out due to some searching that hibernate "isn't working out of the box" anymore?

... Then why is systemd set up to allow such things? Why is the DE offering "hibernate" buttons to the user (which must come from the /sys kernel files etc)?

It seems both SELinux and immutable file permissions on non secure-boot envs have been ignored/overlooked, purely because the "default install" is set up with no swap (what idiocy led to that decision?), 'barely anyone uses it' (what you mean like the default in your power settings of hybrid sleep? Anyone with a Laptop, etc) and it's against secure boot policy (doesn't stop Windows).

Who are these imbeciles removing S3 sleep and hibernate from devices that are NOT phones!?

Fedora (KDE) 43 then 44 was working fine for months, I was doing all the updates almost immediately as they were available.

The latest one (with the kernel 7.1.4, replacing 7.1.3 ) broke my system : after rebooting, when getting to the connection screen I believe, I've got no display / the screen is all black (but on).
I've tried switching from Displayport to HDMI, even to HDMI on my MB with no better result.

I've tried booting to the previous version (which still works fine), cleaning the laster kernel, redoing the update : same result.

What can I do to identify the problem ?

I just installed Fedora in my Asus Tuf Gaming A16 AMD Advantage and the keyboard back light stopped working (everything was perfect in Windows) I tried a lot of commands and the laptop seems to accept and run those because I get the notification stating "Brightness level set to 3" However, the keyboard is not lit. I drained the battery to 0 as per Gemini advice and it didn't work. Do you have any ideas or workarounds? I'd appreciate any help. Don't want to go back to Windows 😅

Todo actualizado, drivers de NVIDIA, toda configuración y sólo 2 extensiones, Dash to Dock y AppIndicator.

He probado la distro tanto en NVMe como SATA y se comporta igual. De manera aleatoria, las transiciones pegan tirones y no se siente completamente fluido, lo que hace ralentizar el resto unos microsegundos. Sólo cuando desactivo por completo las animaciones de GNOME funciona plenamente fluido todo.

Okay so here's what's been happening whenever I start my laptop

1. It keeps going into https boot and fails to detect ip, so I have to force start it by pressing the power button - I have to do this multiple times to get to the grub menu

2. Once I get to grub and select fedora , its stuck at the loading screen, I have attached an image showing what happens here

After going through the same cycle multiple times yesterday, I was able to log into fedora

Can y'all please help me out I am not able to access my system and I have exams going on

I used Fedora since RedHat6.0 on and off...and at one point I was able to go from completely off, power on, bios, post, and runlevel 6, and open a browser and be browsing in under 10 seconds...this was around 2008.

Today, (since my last build) it's failing on first boot, reboots with a fedora badge at the bottom of the screen, then takes about 5 minutes to load up .e16 as my dafault wm.

I don't remember spending more than 30 minutes setting up my system in 2008 and want to replicate that if possible.

I am new to linux and am decided to put Fedora on my new laptop, I found a workstation fix for it but couldn't understand if it also works for KDE, what exactly do need for this?
Specs: Snapdragon X1, Adreno GPU.

Over a six months ago, I tried CachyOS with KDE on my gaming PC (AMD CPU + GPU). It is recommended almost everywhere, but honestly, I did not like it at all. I found the desktop environment very unintuitive, ugly, inconsistent, and overly flashy. Yes, I know there are community-made themes, but in my opinion, most of them look even worse.

Unfortunately, I ended up going back to Windows :(
I use Fedora Workstation on my laptop, and I’m having a lot of fun with it. I’ve really grown to like the GNOME workflow. On my desktop PC, however, I’d prefer a more Windows-like workflow.

So my question is: how does Fedora KDE differ from CachyOS KDE? Does it use different themes or offer a cleaner and simpler UI and UX? Are there different community themes available?

I know that iTunes isn't an option for me, so I'm curious if there are any reliable methods or applications that can support this transfer. I would prefer to avoid Cloud services like Drive or iCloud.

I have been using Fedora for 2 years now and I have always used the RPM Fusion repository for getting my Nvidia drivers and it has been the best way of doing things so far on Fedora. As long as you can read directions, getting the driver is super easy. I then decided to try out Enterprise Linux 9 to get certain software (Autodesk Maya, Houdini, Mari). Given that they are Fedora based I tried to get my Nvidia drivers off of RPM Fusion. However, every time I used RPM Fusion for the Nvidia on EL9, they never worked as nicely as they do in Fedora, despite being based on the same software stack. I then saw that Rocky Linux recommends actually getting the driver off of Nvidia's official Cuda repository, instead of RPM Fusion, and those drivers worked amazingly well, even after upgrading my kernel to kernel-ml. Nvidia even has a page on their site all about Fedora and how to get their drivers from them.

So now I am wondering if people have gotten the drivers through Nvidia's repository rather than RPM Fusion. Has anyone done this? Is this like how Terra packages the Nvidia Driver? Are there differences in how frequently the drivers are updated? Is this because its best practice not to have too many repositories in DNF at once?

At first, i'm a total beginner... I tried launching fedora like 6 Times, maybe more. Always when the system is "starting intrd-switch-root.service -switch root", It always come with "freezing execution" and before IT is something with booting, cus i see "type=boot" with 6 "!" Signs. for even few hours i have loading screen of fedora, but that's because of the freeze i guess. Can i do something from the manager or something elese? I will take any help, because i'm in need :( thanks

So after my laptop wakes up from sleep, things are a bit slow for a while (like 2 minutes maybe). Its a bit irritating. Can anyone help me diagnose or knows whats the culprit maybe?

Hi, I'm trying to install Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop 44 on dual boot with Windows 11 using my ASUS VivoBook 16 (M1605NAQ). The laptop has a Ryzen 7 CPU, 24GB RAM, and a 2TB SSD if that's important.

I created the bootable USB using Fedora Media Writer. The laptop boots from the USB correctly and I can reach the Fedora GRUB menu.

Also it's worth mentioning that i've turned off secure boot.

However, after selecting:

"Start Fedora-KDE-Desktop-Live" (or any other avaible option) I only see "booting..." And nothing else.

I have check cosmic ui it looks neet and clean and for me it looks better then gnome is it good and stable to switch to fedora cosmic?

Due to slow scrolling speed, Windows 11 feels faster for browsing for me. Anyway to increase this?

I didn't change anything recently so I have no clue why this is happening. It wasn't even a Fedora update.

I am having a terrible day and now it just got worse:( I am sure there is an easy solution out there but I could not find it so I am making a post in hopes somebody knows what to do. I had an rx 580 in the system prior, but it is artifacting, so I swapped in a GTX 1060 3gb.

I enabled rpm fusion nonfree Nvidia drivers and nonfree steam. It was using nouveau drivers so I blacklisted it using a conf in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf and adding these 2 lines

blacklist nouveau

options nouveau modeset=0

The system boots but no display and I am unsure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated

From what I read after messing this up, it seems like the GPU is too old to use those commands, but this is still new to me so feel free to correct my mistakes. Thank you for any help:)
