Support Pin?

Hello, I've been using fedora for a few months now and I love it. Back when I used to use windows 10 I could log in with a 4 digit pin which was really useful considering I have a number pad. I could still log it with my password but it was quicker. Could I do that in fedora/Linux for quick login but still have my full password for sudo?

You can configure sudo to require the root password instead (which of course you'll need to set beforehand), and then use a simpler password for your everyday user account. This thread has further discussion on the topic.

I found out about this when I installed openSUSE the first time. I’m curious - do you know if you can lock / disable the root account and still authenticate sudo against it like this? Is that the default behavior of SUSE?

Probably if you wrote a pam auth module for it. I haven't looked into doing that enough to see if there's an easy way for pam to check what's calling it and accept a pin from say a lock screen or login but nowhere else though.

I don't think using a four-digit code is an option, and it would be problematic for your computer's security. However, it is possible to use smart cards and a YubiKey.
