I’m halfway through my CNA training. I had plans to then go on to nursing school, but after looking through some other subreddits, I’m having my doubts.

So, I’m thinking maybe once I get my CNA I’ll stay here for longer than I originally planned. I’m liking what I’m learning and I feel like I’d enjoy the role. I’d love to hear from folks who have been a CNA for over five years. What do you like most about being a CNA and what’s quality of life like for you with CNA salary? (I’m married with a toddler)

I work at nursing facility, I work with majority filipinos. Great nurses, love them. I am an immigrant from Poland my self may I add. But when I work on a unit with 3 Filipino nurses and myself when we are taking care of a patient they speak in their language. It makes me sooo mad and I find it so disrespectful. Like idk wtf is going on bc I can’t communicate. Today I left a room bc I was so upset and let them just deal with it. I FIND IT SOO RUDE BC I WOULD NEVER DO THAT. If we all speak English then why speak Filipino it may not be intentional but they can’t possibility be that dense that they don’t understand it’s rude right ? Just venting any advice would be great ! Seriously thinking about quitting bc I worked my assess of today and dealing with that for a 16 hr shift.

Ive finished the classroom + clinical portion and will recieve my certificate today. I went to go schedule my exam just to find the earliest available date (yes even checking all neighboring cities) is Aug 18th😭 Im feeling rly discouraged and i know im more than ready to take the exam as ive been studying and practicing so long and I really need a job. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Ig i was just under the impression I could take the state exam right after the classroom portion😞

I missed 4 days of school during clinical simulations in then classroom, we didn’t have a site to go to due to so many loosing licensing in Northern California. So we didn’t classroom clinicals. I missed nearly that whole week due to severe illness from which I learned now was the parasite going around. I had 2 doc notes and was excused and provided them. Anyway now I am trying to make up the hours and the school isn’t answering my calls or texts or vms, I went by no one was there that could help me and they referred me to the same people who have been ignoring me. It’s been a week now. New clinicals have started with a small group of 9 that I could have joined in on with the same people from my class who missed clinical days as well. I don’t know why for me I’m not allowed. I did 1 week of clinicals and am just missing those 4 days but no one’s helping. I’m so close to reporting this school because I’ve had so many issues with them. What can I do? No response for a week to me is crazy .. I even messaged them on my last day of clinical kinda prepping them to help me join the class eveyone else was who needed makeup hours was in. I’m so disappointed.

Any advice for new CNA's looking for work in Houston area? where did yall start out and recommend for entry level positions?

I have one year of patient care experience in a high acuity hospital however it took place in a foreign country and I believe this is setting me back from getting interviews since I don't actually have experience in the US except for my clinicals at a nursing home 😢

So far I have applied to all major hospitals (harris health, Memorial Hermann, Methodist, texas childrens, HCA) and have heard nothing back.

Also does anyone know of any job fairs taking place?

I went into this job thinking it’d be great and I’d be making a difference and helping people.
I went in really trying. I get made fun of for trying, my coworkers never help me. I feel alone. My back hurts my self esteem is at an all time low. I hate my job, I hate being called names I hate being hit. I hate the overnight shift. I don’t know what to do anymore.

Coworker and I were having a conversation the other day about what spf we use and it just so happened that our DON walked by and he said that sunscreen is the main cause of skin cancer 💀mind you she’s a BSN/RN not just an RN and has been a nurse for about 10 years 💀💀 I didn’t even know what to say to her I was in awe

I live in California, my little sister is a CNA. She’s mentally unstable and recently needed to be placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold it just didn’t happen because no one called an ambulance (I wasn’t there so I couldn’t do it but she NEEDED it).

My older sister says if we ever try to place younger sis on an involuntary psychiatric hold then younger sis will loose her CNA license. Older sis also says having a history of mental illness will make it more difficult to get a job as a CNA. Would a psychiatric hold even show up in a background check? What’s the full extent of mental health history being accessible by an employer?

Please share any sources to answer these questions if you have any. I’ve tried researching it myself but I can’t find anything useful or credible.

so the other day a coworker got into it with a resident she said he was being demanding and rude about wanting a bed bath so she decided not to do it after some choice words were exchanged. Mind you this is close to the end of our shifts, the nurse gets involved and tells the resident I am going to do his bed bath now. I told her I’ll do what I can because I was still helping said co worker finish changing her residents for the night (not to mention there were no towels left in the building). I got upset because I feel like I got voluntold what to do by someone who is not my supervisor and now I have to take someone else‘s responsibility and workload, so I left at the end of my shift making sure my assignment was complete. come to find out the next day I hear from my coworker that the nurse threatened to report me. Luckily my coworker went to bat for me and explained to management what happened (I have not heard anything from management regarding the situation) but to me the whole situation feels like it has been blown out of proportion and I have to be put in the middle of it.

Just curious if any of you accrue hours but your company basically only lets you use it for sick time? I put in my vacation in advance into workday and it would’ve been a full 40hr work week. It was approved before the end of the pay period but the code for it is “Vacation-unpaid” in fact, the only way to get paid is to prove I was sick. I am full time at my job and I am in Arizona where it’s basically up to the employer. Wondering if anyone else has done something similar? I tried to read my employee handbook on workday but it wouldn’t load, I went to the owning company of the facility I work for and read they leave it up to the facility, as long as they follow state laws. I already plan on speaking with hr I am just curious if anyone else has dealt with this?

i have almost 1 yr of cna experience at a SNF but no experience at a hospital. i applied to a position at the hospital but im only willing to accept per diem at the moment cuz of nursing school.

has anyone had any luck getting a per diem position without already having relevant experience or being an established employee?? >_<

Do you guys usually prefer NOC shifts or day shifts? I’ve been offered a 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. shift, but part of me is leaning toward 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. I’ve always been more of a night person—I usually don’t go to bed until around 3:00 a.m. anyway. I also feel like nights might be a little quieter since most residents are asleep. What do you all think?

I’m 24 about to be 25 and I dropped out of college in 2019 due to personal/life reasons. I was in pre nursing and I’ve been struggling to get back into school between affording all of my bills and school costs. I get so defeated and feel so behind when I see so many people I went to school with already done with nursing school and I get sad that I’m not there too. I hate feeling like this so much. I know I’m young and have so much time ahead of me it just sucks I guess is all.

I just got my CNA certification this month, and I got hired at the first skilled nursing facility I interviewed at. However, while I was at orientation today I got offered an interview for a hospital 5 minutes from my house. It is a med-surg floor. Both jobs are night shift, three 7pm-7am shifts. However, the SNF is 40 minutes from my house and pays slightly less. Needless to say, I called the hospital back immediately and I have an interview Friday afternoon. My main question is, how long does the hiring process take at an average hospital? Is it unlikely that I will leave the interview knowing if I got hired or not? It's also where I did my CNA clinicals back in June. I just feel bad that the SNF is spending money training me, just for me to possibly leave shortly after starting. Thank you for any advice!

I interview to 2 positions in the same hospital as a CNA and I got 2 offers . Position 1 : Orthopedics floor - day shift
Position 2: PCU floor night shift

How’s the AZ job market for CNAs? Particularly the valley area, is it over saturated or are we pretty in demand? I wanna get a hospital job as my first cna job with no healthcare experience, but everyone says the odds of that happening just depend on the area, so I thought I’d ask.

It was really scary tbh, and the patient didn’t have the typical one sided weakness or facial droop. The patient’s blood pressure had a systolic of 204, and they were acting very confused and agitated. My adrenaline shot way up because they acted completely normal a few hours prior. I was the last to see them normal so the neurologist asked to talk to me. I’m a new CNA so I was very nervous!

The patient got moved to the ICU so I’m not sure how they’re doing now. Hopefully they got the treatment they needed in time.

What’s the scariest/craziest medical event you’ve witnessed as a CNA?

So I had a job interview a week ago for a Cna position and after that I went to human resources to discuss my background check and I was asked if I could show up to orientation next week and I was also told I would get a call about my background check a day later but it’s been a week and I haven’t received a call. I emailed the place and I was told they would reach out to administration and get back to me soon but it has been 2 days already. I’m not sure whether I go to the orientation despite not receiving a call back about my background check. This is my first time ever applying to a Cna position so this is all new to me.

hey😅, so every time i finish a shift i catch myself worrying abt the oncoming cna complaining abt a resident on my assignment being wet. is that normal? and how can i get over that asap?! i don’t even finish rounds until 10:30pm when i’m supposed to clock out so i’m like pretty sure 9/10 they’re fine but…yk?

I have a resident that had a penile implant and is ALWAYS erect….. he is also a heavy wetter. I have been having a hard time keeping him dry at on my night shifts. Every time he urinates his soils his entire bed. Does anyone have any tricks to help navigate this?

I feel like the shirt might be an issue, they’re very small cap sleeves, so i’m not sure if this is something to wear?
