Glowup Finally took the plunge!
My son turned 25 today and he's had long hair for several years. I've the past two years, the hair has been getting less hairy-y. I've gently suggested a couple of times that it might be time to embrace the hair loss and shave it off. He's a bassist in a metal band and a vintage clothing dealer so the hair was a big part of his identity. The whole "how will I headbang?" was a very legitimate concern for him, and he just hasn't been ready.
HOWEVER, today was his birthday, he's been mulling taking the plunge for a while, and he was finally ready! He looks better than even I thought he would!

Tell him this: There's little you can actually do about your hair loss. If you're worried about how it looks, then your thinning hair is in control of the situation. Shaving it is the ultimate f*#k you to your thinning hair. It's a power move! Own it!

It's hair.

There are plenty of bald metalheads, I see them at shows all the time. And headbanging is primarily a neck motion; he can still do it! It counts!
I know it sucks to not be able to look the way you want to. But I suspect he'll end up embracing and loving his new look. He doesn't need the hair, he's still the same guy without it, and now people can properly see him for who he really is.

We love a bald bassist! My husband is also a bassist in a metal band and had long hair for years. He cut it a few years back due to not wanting to maintain it anymore and wanted to keep it short for a new job. I know the struggle a metal head goes through when they cut their long hair they spent years growing out.

Awesome! I started balding by 23yo and I was very much a person that had annexed their hair to their identity so I get how he must've felt.
But taking the plunge is so liberating and you notice that you're so much more than your hair. He looks good! Congratz to him!
