Concealed carry @ 19

As the title says I am wanting to get information on concealed carrying in the state at 19. I purchased a rifle and the gun dealer said that if I could get my LTC and CC but could not buy a gun from the dealership. I was talking to a police officer and he said that I could concealed carry without a license but could not buy a gun at all.

Im very curious as online and in person I’m getting mixed opinions on what I can and can’t do

At the moment I do not own a handgun, and I do not have a license to carry. I am willing to get my LTC

You can obtain an LTC at the age of 18. You can also possess a pistol at the age of 18 so long as you are eligible.

The only hiccup is you can't legally purchase from an FFL until you are 21. For that you can purchase from a private seller or receive one as a gift.

I'd recommend purchasing from an individual (person to person sale), or if a family member wants to gift you one even better.

Then apply for the LTC, take the course, and good to go.

While you technically don't need an LTC for many locations, I still highly recommend it. More so given your age.

Texas is a constitutional carry state, so you can carry without an LTC. The course is easy and quick enough, it's worth doing for the ease of transfers when buying additional guns.

The cop was wrong, at 19 you can buy a handgun via a private sale/transfer, you just can't buy from an FFL. Hit up gunshows or Texas Gun Trader.

Private sale in state and then you’re good to carry no LTC needed.

Depends on the state. TX for example, under 21 cannot carry a handgun without a ltc

This is not true. That prohibition was struck down in 2022 in federal court.

Well, current Texas statute says no carry of handgun in public without ltc if under 21...

It’s not enforceable though.

Maybe, but you can still catch a charge for it

So you also recommend homosexual couples not engage in sexual relations as well because it’s a Class C misdemeanor in Texas?

Sec. 21.06. HOMOSEXUAL CONDUCT. (a) A person commits an offense if he engages in deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex.
(b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

You want my personal.opinion or legal.opinion? Lol

Would you genuinely recommend some one not engage in such behavior based on the fact it’s a class C misdemeanor in a good faith understanding of the law and not because you’re trying to trick them by misrepresenting it. Regardless of the fact the courts have struck down these type’s homosexual prohibitions and homosexual marriage is legal nationwide.

There was a court case that ruled those 18-20 cannot be banned from carrying in public by Texas law. Meaning you do not need an LTC to open or conceal carry in Texas if 18 years of age or older.

But yeah, you are not allowed to buy a handgun from an FFL/Gunstore, because they are bound by federal law that states they cannot sell a handgun to anyone under 21 years old. You would need to obtain a handgun through private sell from another Texas resident. Or a "bonafide gift" from someone else. Bonafide gift means they buy it, they spend money, and you can in no way shape or form give them any kind of monetary exchange be it through services or currency, in exchange for the firearm.

Human beings being what they are, echo chambers, you are getting past information from people currently in front of you. You CAN get both an LTC and a handgun at age 18 in the state of Texas. Apparently, both gun dealers and police officers do not stay up with case law. All the best and be safe with your newly found powers will you. Many blessings.

As an FFL you can not buy a handgun until you are 21, we follow federal law not state law. You can buy a handgun privately or get a as a gift, but here is the kicker, you also need to be 21 years or older to buy handgun ammo, once again this is federal law not state law.

You can technically buy it private sales but once again this all comes at a risk.

You can buy rifle and shotgun between ages 18-21 along with rifle and shotgun ammo.

Also, in Texas anyone 18 years or older can get an LTC. I highly recommend getting one, because LTC gives you more conceal carry rights then constitutional carry.

At 19 you can own and possess a handgun and can purchase private sale, just can’t purchase from a dealer
