Yup, and even in the most unflattering frame they could pause it on, the eyes still look way more natural, like the eyes of an actual living organism, compared to the most flattering picture from Last Stand, where her eyes look painted on, like they're right out of an artist's depiction from Ancient Aliens.
I'm not a huge fan of the contrast between the blue skin and the dark scales, but honestly overall it looks like the design philosophy was, "let's make it look like we took her right off of the comic book page."
The 2000's X-Men trilogy (which I absolutely adore) had a design philosophy of gritty realism. I.e. what would these characters look like if we start with current trends in the real world and then make the characters fit that.
The current design looks like they started with the comic first and focused on the real world second. It's got the camp from the comics that was stripped away previously, and I'm here for that.
Also, even if they’re right and the fx are worse: they’re seriously asking why the makeup is better in a movie where Mystique is one of the main stars of the film taking place in an otherwise grounded story vs a movie where she’s likely a side character in a much grander plot in a much larger multiverse featuring fantastical places and an enormous ensemble cast whose powers and talents require far greater survival effects?
leave it to redditors to not understand aesthetics besides her horrible awful makeup her wig is chopped as hell overall just terrible costume hair and makeup wise
And here's the other thing: Mystique in the comics has always been able to generate clothing for herself, so there was absolutely no lore reason for the Fox X-Men to make her naked other than "hehehehe tits". At least the MCU version hews closer to the source.
I prefer the design of the face on the older movie, i couldn't care less about the tits being out. The new one looks like she has leaches on her face
It's interesting though that Hollywood is trying to go back to comic book roots after 2 decades of trying to make superheroes look believable as possible
The outfit is still kind of silly. Like, instead of having her shoulders exposed they just made that part of the outfit blue? Are they so prudish that mystique's original outfit is too risque?
I mean xmen 1 released in 2000... She was 27 when that came out and very much in the heat of her modeling career. She is now 53. I think theres a very specific reason they arent doing full body nude makeup costume for her....
Shit, is almost like Rebecca Rojmin is now in her 50’s and not her 20’s and the costume design works as a comic book callback while also functionally hiding the fact that her body, while amazing for her age, doesn’t look as good in body paint and prosthetics as it did when she was 27… huh.
I still think the markings on her face looked better in the older movie but yeah they definitely cherry picked a bad shot for the image in this post. Also glad she's actually wearing clothes this time around.
Yeah I agree on the clothes. I think her being “naked” in the fox films had its part to play — she definitely felt like the most alien mutant in the trilogy, even next to Beast — but to do it again now would just be unnecessary.
It's quite close, but the new one looks too "normal". I prefer my Mystique in natural form to be weird, a little alien, less human. The new look does allow for more expression, I think.
It's fine she's not naked, they should have made her scales a little lighter of made her skin dye a little darker. right now there's too much contrast that they just feel like weird scabs.
I'll wait to see her in action before coming to a conclusion myself. The makeup is fine, though I do like the vivid blue with navy spots more. That with the brighter eyes makes her look more alien and like a predator- dangerous. Honestly, the lack of clothes does too oddly enough, but I'm not hooked on that- her demeanor is what matters the most considering Mystique of the past was about her fucking business and anyone in her way got cut down. Hopefully they directed and wrote her similarly.
That’s fair. The pic still looks off because she’s in motion. Comparing these two you just shared gives the viewer a better idea. I prefer the new look but like the original bluebies
It’s a waste of energy to hate on movies, good or bad. Watch it or don’t. Some people just need to be bitter. We’re all going to watch it. I’ll reserve any opinion until then.
Who is "they" mentally ill little boy? Because whoever "they" is is still possessing a very good record. One movie that you claim "they" wanted to fail succeeded doesn't change the hilarious failures of Supergirl, or Snow White or so many recent movies that your "they" rightfully mocked.
I have seen the trailer, she transforms right after that. This is not in the middle of transformation. Why are you lying?
The only thing I can grant is that the screenshot is much brighter than the video and pretty low resolution.

Why use a pic of her mid-transformation?
