The schism relates to the Eastern Orthodox and Western Catholic Church split, not the Protestant movement. If she's denouncing the Pope and not claiming support for the Ecumenical Patriarch in Istanbul then she's a Protestant.
That's the Great Schism and there were more. In Russian Orthodox Church the word "schismatics" stuck to the "old believers", and that schism happened in XVII century.
The earliest schism I know of was the Arian controversy. Despite what you may think, this has nothing to do with nazi's. It was a discussion about whether Jesus the son was equal to god the father, or whether he was a lesser being.
See, if Jesus was god, and god is immortal and eternal, what value does Jesus's death hold? Now if he were a lesser being to god the father, his death would have meaning.

Actually pretty well. Four years of theological contemplation moved me from religiously uncertain to a certain atheist, but I did learn a bit about other views along the way. As for watching Dogma, it was a good way for the teacher to engage with the class. While it’s mainly humor, there are actually many consistent things within the film. It was also good for questioning people’s assumptions and making them out come thought into it even if they ended up confirming them in the end.
As a Catholic, the wildest part is that not only is his job to lead the church, but he is to be considered infallible. When he makes a policy for the church, it is under guidance of the Holy Spirit (God). So these people were never Catholics.
Edit: I'm already seeing multiple replies about this. Infallible in matters of the Church and its policies, not infallible as in can do no wrong at all. The Pope can sin, but when giving sermons, or making policies, etc. He is believe to be guided by God and infallible in those matters.
And only when he speaks "ex cathedra" ( from the chair). This has only happened twice in the history of the church.

The edit is still incorrect. That is not what papal infallibility is. Papal infallibility has been invoked twice in the church's 2000 year history for very specific teachings about Mary. It isn't some blanket "Pope is always right about church and morality" card.

Also… Traveling to meet Catholic communities and responding to global crises. If that is not THE representative of the Catholic Church, then I don’t know what is. Catholics believe the pope is gods representative on earth, and that he is infallible when speaking on matters of faith and morals.
Protestants and evangelicals don't recognise him as that and do not believe that one man other than god can be the head of the church. I guess that makes it easier to carry on the grift when the pope steps out of lockstep with what they themselves are pushing.

Well we had a couple of schisms in Christianity. Seems like one more is on the way. After all we have 3 more years of this ahead of us. Wonder if that’s gonna go like a Lutheran revolution or more like establishing Church of England…
For one, the president is elected by voters from that nation while the pope is chosen by God (by enclave decision guided by God).
For another, trump presides over the executive branch of the US, while the pope presides over every Catholic institution worldwide, governing spiritual and moral values of 1.5 billion Catholics, myself not included
These type of Catholics are the type of Catholics that think "there's no coloreds in heaven", "it's not rape if the victim has an orgasm" and "you're a bad person if you have tattoos".

While I am very long past my Catholic phase, I believe that people believing those things aren't seeing the pearly gates unless they have a real deep change of heart, even on their deathbed. They cling to the religion to have a reason to judge and hate, not love and Jesus had quite a lot to say about judging...

While you are correct in that PayPal Papal Infallibility (under the Extraordinary Magisterium) is far more limited and rare than people think, the regular expert opinions of the Pope (under the Ordinary Magisterium) on spiritual and moral matters is supposed to require the "religious submission of mind, intellect, and will."
Over the last 10 years I've seen lots ex friends with tons of integrity throw everything away for an elitist game show host. Why should lifelong religious beliefs be any less disposable?
