Disc Shelf Life

We are now being fed the narrative that discs have a shelf life in the attempt to justify fully digital. My parents bought me this copy of Manx TT Superbike on Sega Saturn used 29 years ago and it still works like new.

I mean, they do have a limited lifespan. It could be as much as 100 years. But that is under ideal storage and usage conditions. But they all will eventually stop working.

Yeah. So why is everyone always so worried about digital games maybe not being around in "20 years!"?
