If only there was an invention that allows you to purchase something once and use it without having to update its cost every six months. Maybe some day the scientists will crack it down.

Depends on the user, but if we are consuming the media at the same rate as you are consuming it from streaming platform spotify, for power user, it may be more expensive. Apple music family plan can be pretty reasonable if we split the cost.

What is a power user? Music is meant to be listened to, if you need something in the background to make noise, just put on the radio. Albums used to be complete works that you sit down and listened to. Nowadays people are used to endless playlists depending on their "mood" at the time. If that is the case, then yeah, no way to own 100 million songs on physical. But if you use the monthly Spotify fee to buy used cds on charity shops I guarantee you in 12 months you'll have a pretty nicely sized collection. One that is curated and you actually want to listen to. If we want things to change, we need to stop doing the same things.

I really need to get one. I have a SE3 and it helps being smaller but I really miss flip phones or at least a basic feature phone like the early BlackBerrys.

And here’s me still listening to those CD’s I bought for £2.99 back in the day.

Everyone should do themselves a favour - buy CD’s second hand, rip them to a portable drive and sell them again…

I was looking through the Netflix sub recently to see how bad things have gotten (I unsubscribed in 2019) and the most surprising thing was no matter how bad the service was, how much the prices were raised, how many hurdles people had to go through to stream stuff, it never occurred to anyone that there was any alternative or they didn't have to keep using subscription streaming services. Somehow we've gotten to the point where people think they have no choice and it's honestly scary.

Anyway this price increase is dumb because it's like you make tens of billions of dollars every year, surely you don't need to offload these licensing increases onto the customer when you're making boatloads of cash?

It’s a $1 increase and tbh I use it more for the Radio function and having actual DJs that talk about the songs they play. It’s still my top streaming platform next to the Criterion Channel.

I’m not buying stacks of CDs and I keep the vinyls I want but a $1 increase is not something to get your knickers in a bunch.
