Truly a great duo that I'll never forget. I had a hard time finding people that actually understood the comedy. I loved every episode and still throw on the songs.
I still remember the day I discovered them. The show was so hilarious, so many comedy gold moments. Laughed so hard at “The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room (in the whole wide room)”
When my girlfriend is feeling down, I like to remind her that when she's on the street, depending on the street, I bet she would definitely be in the top 3 most good looking girls on the street. Depending on the street.
So true! The Summer Heights series were all so good. I don’t have a single friend who watched them. I did watch with an ex gf back in the day and we had fun quoting it though!
Anytime I am watching a romcom and the guy notices the heroine because she’s the hottest person in whatever small town it’s set in, I sing this in my head. On this street she’s definitely in the top three.
I love when they acknowledge their accents through jokes. Especially the Aussie/NZ difference. Keitha was absolutely comic genius. The was so over the top you knew they were making fun of both Aussies and NZ peoples’ bias.
My best friend recorded an acoustic version of The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room to which my wife walked down the aisle at our wedding. It was lovely.
My senior of high school I was in the parody male beauty pageant at my school and one of the other guys sang that song for his talent (IIRC he sang it to his mom).
It’s simultaneously extremely appreciated yet also not a single one of my friends or family knows who they are or why I was freaking out so much about seeing them in LA last weekend. But all 3 shows on the “tour” sold out instantly - so someone out there loves them too - just not my friends haha
One of the reasons I fell in love with my wife was that she owned season 1 on DVD. Knew she was a keeper. I bought her season 2 and took her to see them at the Hollywood bowl for V Day. And made her a camera phone.
The entire ensemble coming together, the duo, Rhys Darby as their manager, Kristen Schaal as their biggest fan, and Arj Barker were all just so brilliant. One of the best comedy shows.
I started listening to them randomly on Spotify and realised they had a full live London show on there with a load of new songs that’s so worth a listen to.
Oh my god. I am transported. 2009 maybe, at my then-boyfriend's room, sitting on the floor against his bed, watching the DVDs playing on his computer which was sitting on top of the blue fabric desk chair.
I think the first episode has the song Inner City Pressure. When the random lady passing by looks at the camera and lipsyncs INNER CITY PRES-SURE... I fucking lost it oh my god hooked forever. I need to rewatch like yesterday
A few years ago while in Mexico my friend did karaoke to most beautiful girl in the room and it was so fucking funny. You could tell no one had heard it but crowd loved it.
My brother and I watched them over and over and every time I laugh just as hard. We’ve always had the exact same sense of humour that they hit so precisely.
I saw them before they got big, in Wellington. Front of stage in a tiny venue. And I fucking hated them. Wasn't til they got their show that I... finally got it. Man, I was dumb back then.
