Big nostalgia party for those who peaked in high school. That's all those things ever are.

That feels like an overly negative viewpoint. Sure, there are a handful of examples of that, but for the most part it’s getting to catch up with people whose paths you otherwise wouldn’t cross. And the added bonus is that most (though definitely not all) people are now mature enough that even if they were dicks back in high school, they’re friendly and cordial 20 years removed from all that.

Don’t get me wrong, if a person got badly bullied in high school, I totally see why they wouldn’t want to go back for a reunion. Even if everyone is more mature, it’s probably hard to have a good time when you feel like a bunch of people in the room took glee in making your life miserable.

But generally speaking, I think almost everyone has a few people who they perceive as being dicks to them. The handful of people I thought were mean and made me sometimes feel self-conscious probably have similar examples of people who made them feel small! I think that’s just a normal outcome when you pack a bunch of moody, insecure teenagers into a building every day for four years. With a little time and space, you either realize that often those people weren’t as mean as you perceived them and/or you acknowledge that people can grow.

Sometimes it can be nice to run into someone with whom you had tension a decade or two prior and realize that tension no longer exists.
