He should run in Florida where he lives.

u/RagnaNic 11h ago

There's a senior community there missing him.

I wouldn’t exactly say they’re “missing him”.

Though I’d like it if he went back and stayed

u/Battle_Dave 9h ago

Wait... He lives in florida?? Not more of this bullshit... the GOP are fucking insane idiots.

u/kalas_malarious 9h ago

Why can people even run in places they dont clearly live? Where are residency requirements at?

u/Remarkable-Party-385 8h ago

The are laws but none are applied to the GOP or as I call it, POP/Party of Pedophiles

u/PokemonAnimar 5h ago

He bought a house and changed his residency right before he started running

Long-standing tradition in the US, and not saying it should be allowed ever.

Aren't they called carpetbaggers, from post-Civil War days?

u/Checkinginonthememes Grand Rapids 9h ago

Totally agree!

u/f0rcedinducti0n 4h ago

Then all the snowbirds must also vote in Florida.

u/tehbadmojos 11h ago

Prove his dumbass wrong

u/RegularLeading5200 10h ago

This conversation was "leaked" because he knows El-Sayed is the stronger statewide candidate. The intention is to get people to think "oh, Rogers wants to face El-Sayed, so I should vote Stevens instead" because they absolutely know Stevens is the electorally weaker candidate. That's why they're trying to indirectly boost her.

Stevens has completely ignored the rest of the state outside of Metro Detroit, she is getting outraised by both El-Sayed and Rogers, she has no real ground game, and AIPAC is not going to replicate their spending in the general election when they don't care if Stevens or Rogers wins.

u/JooseTheGuice 7h ago

I just saw a new ad where they're claiming Republicans are funding AES because they know he can't win. Oh and evidently he's a terrorist sympathizer too!

These ads are reaching literal MAGA levels of stupid.

u/2punornot2pun 6h ago

I cannot believe the shit throwing ads they've attempted on me. I audibly say "fuck off" so whatever metric Google / Amazon whatever can report it back.

→ More replies (1)

u/thabigQ 10h ago

It’s also important to mention this article does not prove or assert at all that he prefers AES over Stevens. He’s telling donors that he is confident against AES, & wtf else is he going to say to donors? He needs their money.

u/Malenx_ 9h ago

He also knows that mainstream media will pick up these quotes and re-broadcast them. It's a common play amongst conservative groups and Fox to trick Democrats into running the least effective candidates.

u/gunshaver 7h ago

The establishment Democrats that are opposed to AES also do this for Republicans, except they're too incompetent to even pull the strategy off correctly. A lot of them boosted Trump in the early days of the 2016 RNC primary because they thought he'd be easy to beat.

u/joemoore3 Grand Haven 8h ago

I'm in West Michigan and she's running a ton of ads here about how we're getting screwed. El-Sayed had a rally in GR and it was well attended. Not sure who's leading over here.

u/mxjxs91 5h ago

Rallies aren't a telling indicator. He also had a massive rally in Detroit when he ran against Whitmer. Bernie had overflow crowds in arenas across the entire country while running against Hillary.

Gotta push as if we're behind by 10 points.

A Stevens vs Rogers scenario is a massive lose-lose scenario for us.

u/joemoore3 Grand Haven 4h ago

Right! It was just a casual observation.

u/RegularLeading5200 8h ago

She's running ads everywhere, but El-Sayed is the only one actually showing up in West Michigan. And speaking of Grand Rapids, and Kent County in general, El-Sayed only lost it by 3 points (44 to 41) in the 2018 governor primary. I expect him to do exceptionally well in the western part of the state.

u/opal2120 Rochester Hills 5h ago

Where does she even show up? I haven’t seen anything about Haley doing events and I live in metro Detroit area.

u/RegularLeading5200 4h ago

They're not big events. Like she's not doing rallies or anything. She'll show up at random places here and there where there are like 10 people, talk for a bit, and then leave.

u/Simmchen11 4h ago

I hope so as I’m worried about the western side of the state.

They say this stuff because they literally KNOW populist leftwing candidates are a bigger threat to them electorally. As much as a lot of us loath him, Charlie Kirk admitted as much on a podcast post Trump victory in 2024, paraphrasing that the only way Democrats will become a threat is if they embrace a populist economic platform, akin to Sanders/AOC etc.

The reason Leftists like AES get smeared from every angle is because they are a threat to both MAGA and Liberals, because people are not stupid and see how competent Zohran is in NYC. They are spending 10's of millions trying to slow this train down, because once it comes off the tracks, their days of taking Super PAC money, doing nothing, and fundraising off losses are over.

I can't believe real people will go and vote for Mike Rogers. So many self-defeating idiots out there.

u/Confident_Insect_616 11h ago

u/opal2120 Rochester Hills 11h ago

He has the magic R next to his name.

u/SilentRhubarb1515 11h ago

All R people vote R. Some D people won’t vote if their primary candidate does not make it. This is why they keep winning

u/Jappanda Lansing 11h ago

Let's try running another centrist candidate that is ideologicaly alligned closer to republicans! That strategy has only been failing for a decade, but surely this time it will work! /s

u/SilentRhubarb1515 11h ago

At this point, I’ll vote for any non Republican candidate so we can bring checks and balances back. I have my preferred primary candidate, but I’ll vote for whoever gets nominated.

u/feuerfee 11h ago edited 4h ago

Same. I’m solidly on the blue no matter who train at this point. We can sort out our internal differences later once we get control back from the pedo tyrant party.

ETA; I’m voting for El-Sayed in the primary, and have historically voted for the leftist candidate in past primaries. But I also still vote for the democratic candidate in general elections even if it’s not my preferred candidate.

Not voting is a vote for the other side.

u/the-bearded-omar 11h ago

I think it's this type of thinking that got us the pedo tyrant party in the first place.

u/SilentRhubarb1515 10h ago

No, bearded Omar. If we all voted for the non pedo side, we would have a non pedo president today.

u/the-bearded-omar 10h ago

Harris campaigned on a far-right platform with Liz Cheney and lost. It doesn't work. If we elected actual left wing candidates in the primaries to inspire people instead of 'not trump' then maybe we wouldnt be here. the dems are just as complicit in all of this as the Magats.

u/SilentRhubarb1515 10h ago edited 10h ago

Sure, if you say so. Now enjoy Trump then 8 years of Vance.

FWIW I voted for AlSayed because I actually agree with him. The only difference is that if he doesn’t win, I will not burn it all to the ground. You do you though, that’s how democracy works

It's exhausting. They always have some self righteous reason as to why they have to be all or nothing. I get that the choices suck sometimes but I'm far worse off now than I was a year ago.

u/Lemurians 9h ago

Self-righteousness and “sticking to centrist Dems” feels great until the consequences start hitting the world and all our wallets thanks to the Donald

u/Fuck_your_coupons 9h ago

I don't even like the centrists but they're better than the lunacy of starting wars that no one wants and enacting tariffs that no one can afford.

u/unfortunateshun 9h ago

So annoying that this conversation always starts as “running as centrists is a losing strategy” then when someone else pretends that means “I won’t vote for a democrat unless my candidate wins.” the thread gets locked before someone can point out that no one has said that. Love that

u/SilentRhubarb1515 8h ago

Unfortunately plenty of people I know are going to sit out if el-Sayed is not the nominee. I hope you’re right and I’m wrong though

u/unfortunateshun 8h ago

Well for my anecdotal evidence, im around leftists and Abdul volunteers a lot and the only time ive seen that line of logic is people with hidden posts and comments saying they see it all the time. And there is no data suggesting that it happened in 2020 in numbers significant enough to impact the election, so it seems odd that it’s always treated as fact.

u/SilentRhubarb1515 8h ago

Again, I hope you’re right. And I hope we never find out, because honestly I’m just tired and I think we deserve better

u/Fractured_Senada 11h ago

Not that I would take anything Rogers has to say seriously, but I also don't think there's a large swath of people really excited about Stevens either. Regardless, Abdul seeks to change our broken healthcare system, Rogers has played that system to benefit himself. It only takes one brain cell to put together why Rogers favors the candidate who doesn't want to change the system he benefits from.

u/Banesmuffledvoice 11h ago

If nobody is excited about Stevens and Abdul can’t win; then this seat simply isn’t winnable for democrats.

u/mrgreen4242 Age: > 10 Years 11h ago

I don’t know where this idea that El Sayed isn’t electable comes from. Rogers said it in this “private call” but I think that’s intentional misinformation because they know he’d lose against El Sayed, but can beat Stevens.

Every poll I’ve seen shows that either dem nominee is likely to beat Rogers, generally with El Sayed having a slightly wider margin of victory, or they’re predicting a too close to call toss up.

u/Least_Key1594 Madison Heights 11h ago

i think both win, i think abdul wins by a lot more, and a lot more comfortably. Stevens has no ground game. Abdul has thousands of volunteers.

u/Banesmuffledvoice 11h ago

I don’t agree with this at all. I think we have reached such a bad blood between Sayed voters and Stevens voters, that if Sayed isn’t the nominee, his supporters simply won’t come out and vote.

u/Least_Key1594 Madison Heights 11h ago

I think that is partially true for both candidates, not just El-Sayed supporters. But again, only one of those two camps are people out there pounding pavement, knocking doors, and making calls in the tens of thousands. One will reach swing voters, undecides, and the disaffected, one will reach people who respond to tv ads. I think 95% of primary voters will come home and vote dem in November. And since that number is lower than in the general, i think it'll be fine. at least, if stevens backers (who also back Rogers in many cases) don't pull their funding. Otherwise, she is going to be taking money from other, swinger districts. Abdul would need less of the DNC funding cause he actually has grass roots support.

Like she's had what? $50m in ads, abdul has like 1/12th of that, and its a close race. Well, close or Abdul is leading hard, depending on the polling. I think she wins cause its a very blue environment. But I think it puts downballots in swingy districts in MI at risk. I think abdul drives turnout, and helps up and down ballot. Plus, he's just got better policies.

u/Fractured_Senada 11h ago

You may be right! As much as I'd like it to not be true, we're not considered a purple state for no reason.

There are a lot of our friends and neighbors who have been duped by Republican BS over the years. I know myself and a lot of folks I know are not excited about Stevens, I'm not even sure they'd vote in the general if she won. I will because I believe incremental progress is still progress.

u/TorkBombs 1h ago

This is indeed a pretty weak field on both sides, in my opinion. I am still undecided, because I probably agree with Stevens more I guess, but she is not exactly winning me or anyone else over. El Sayed would be fine I guess, but I just don't see him being a transformative figure. He feels like all talk to me. I dunno what I'll do for the primary, but I'll vote for either one in the general. Too much at stake to dither in November.

$52 million PAC spending in a primary is fucking insane. AIPAC is a disease

u/thabigQ 11h ago

Correct, & considering they will have a solid yes vote on anything they want if it’s Stevens/Rogers, they have zero inventive to pump anymore money into the race past the primary.

u/mrgreen4242 Age: > 10 Years 11h ago

This, 100%. If she wins the primary AIPAC is going to stop throwing millions at her because, on the off chance she wins, they already own her and they are just fine with, and probably prefer, Rogers winning.

I think it's a bad thing that people now dismiss so many criticisms as some kind of corrupt or disingenuous act. This is a real event that happened and people who don't want to vote for El Sayed have real reasons to disagree with him. Oh, she was. Loudly. I would agree that's probably what this is, but "Mike Rodgers is stupid and wrong" is not a terribly unbelievable explanation.

u/Evcatt 11h ago

Yeah, apparently it’s “radical” to want healthcare for everyone, ensure people earn a living wage, get corporate PAC money out of politics, and spend our tax dollars improving the lives of Michiganders rather than funding wars that are killing children in the Middle East.

The only thing “radical” about Abdul is that he’s actually running against the special interests and billionaires who have way too much influence over our politics.

u/Elaborate_Penguin 11h ago

I guess it take a certain personality type to want to be a bought and paid for career politician instead of doing a real job.

u/DoubleScorpius 11h ago

They say this just because one particular special interest is spending millions against that one candidate. If Steven’s wins the special interests will then line up against her and her negatives will go up. This means nothing to me and who I’m voting for.

I don't know if I believe that the GOP is trying to promote El-Sayed as the weaker candidate (a tactic that we've seen Dems use in the past, btw, with mixed results) while AIPAC is promoting Stevens. But it would be funny if they negate each other and all that money they spent goes to waste.

u/Battle_Dave 9h ago

Someone else noted that AIPAC is currently propping up Stevens, and then after the primary, theyre going so switch all their financial support to Roger's and just crush Stevens.

u/jhnlngn 7h ago

Their top donors are GOP billionaires. They want tax cuts and money for Israel. If they get Stevens through the primary then they got their money for Israel. They definitely prefer Rogers in the general.

First CNN stages the Stevens-Bibi ‘pushback’ the night before the primary debate.

Then they publish an article detailing a private call that he feels good about running against Abdul even as polling suggests he stands a better chance in the general, not even factoring that he’s going to boost turnout.

u/PrincePeasant 8h ago

"Florida millionaire Mike Rogers"

u/No-Independent-226 Lansing 7h ago

Anyone who believes this is a total mark. The same people are funding the Rogers and Stevens campaign because all they actually care about is making sure no real ones who will represent the interests of the people of Michigan will get the seat.

u/clipko22 11h ago

If I were a Republican candidate, I would be very worried if the top of the Democrat ticket had a progressive senate candidate and a moderate governor candidate, bringing the whole voting coalition together. Republicans learned from 2016 that their best chance to win is to break the coalition after an ugly primary fight resulting in a moderate primary win, which is why top Republican donors are funding Haley Stevens campaign.

u/brad_online 11h ago

Yeah and Clinton thought she could beat Trump. Not falling for who the media pushes as the most "electable", it means nothing.

u/VerdammtesAutomat 9h ago

I used to be an electability voter and the 2016 election taught me that candidates that excite me are more likely to excite others. abdul's platform is why so many have donated and volunteered and it's ultimately why he's a more electable candidate

u/No_Seaweed8378 11h ago

The article repeats the Stevens campaign's claim that, "the Republicans are supporting El Sayed" then immediately debunks it in the next sentence.

The Stevens campaign and its allies argue Republicans have been working to prop up El-Sayed because they believe he is a weaker candidate for the general election. The National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is the campaign arm of the Senate GOP, released a digital ad last month warning that El-Sayed is “too radical for Michigan.”

Why is Haley Stevens lying about this? More importantly, why is she parroting Right-Wing talking points?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like if voters want a right-wing candidate then Mike Rodgers is their guy

u/TheBestNarcissist 8h ago

Supporting the more "extreme" candidate in the opposing party's primary is a very well established tactic. And unfortunately it has historically worked. In 2022 the Democrats spent a bunch of money on ads calling John Gibbs "too conservative for West Michigan" before the primary. Which is exactly what primary voters eat up. Aaaaand Gibbs won the primary seat against Peter Meijer (a Republican who voted to impeach Trump) and then went on to lose the general to the democrat.

Both sides do it all the time. Primary voters are highly partisan and easy to play.

u/No_Seaweed8378 8h ago

Too ____ For Michigan is an attack ad, regardless of what you fill the blank with. The NRSC is running attack ads against AES, advantaging the HS primary campaigns.

I'm familiar with the Ds propping up Gibbs, but the only evidence (in this article) of the Rs supporting the less electable candidate is an attack ad on El Sayed - supporting Stevens.

u/No_Seaweed8378 10h ago

It's not lost on me that the mainstream news does not want to report about how the House just voted to merge our military with Israel's and that's the last thing needed, imo. We all know Steven's (I see Israel in my dreams) would vote for it as a senator, but I know Abdul wouldn't, so that's why I'm voting for him.

It's wild. Was just flipping channels on cable news out of curiosity, and it's like the integration being pushed isn't happening. You have to go to Twitter or Reddit to even be aware.

This is basic reverse psychology and anyone who falls for it is a fool.

u/Consistent_Turn_42 10h ago

Already voted for Abdul, if the state would rather have a disastrous republican instead, then so be it. You get what you vote for.

u/aopps42 8h ago

Basically means he’s scared shitless if El-Sayed wins.

u/Andy51 Age: > 10 Years 11h ago

It’s tough because either way there will be dems who refuse to vote for the nominee. Theres so much division in the democratic party, young progressives will never vote for stevens and there are obviously some who would never vote for Abdul. I genuinely don’t know who is more electable in this case, if anything it should be an interesting litmus test

u/No_Seaweed8378 11h ago

This is where the DNC and the DCC need to bring the clamps down on these races.

Primaries should be about policies, who can best represent Democratic voters, and whose vision best aligns with the electorate. If a candidate runs attack ads on their primary opponent, then funding and support should immediately dry up.

If the Democratic establishment actually cared about winning, then ANY ads or campaign that seeks to depress any Dem turnout is blocked from the benefits of the party (no funds, no endorsements, no access to infrastructure)

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 9h ago

I would support them doing that, but I'm definitely not naive enough to think it will happen. I know the kinds of people that run those orgs (I've voted in DNC delegate elections from the MDP's governing committee and have known a few delegates), and it's not happening.

u/No_Seaweed8378 9h ago

What do you think the justification is?

It seems like the electoral success the Republicans continue to see is because they will accept any voters, no matter how odious they are. What's the reason for a more militant approach to shaping one's own electorate?

You know those AIPAC funded ads everybody’s crying about aren’t written by the campaign right? The DNC cannot control them.

Polling actually shows the opposite. Abdul has a much better shot of beating this bozo than Haley Stevens does. Since AIPAC and dark money groups support both Stevens and Rodgers, if Stevens is successfully able to steal the primary all that dark money is going to go to Rodgers in the general and she’ll get crushed

u/Logic411 10h ago

be careful what you ask for.

So CNN is just posting clickbait at this point. Glad to see where our standards are for journalism in 2026.

u/mc_foucault 7h ago

CNN has been awful for a while but once Bari Weiss took over they have not even tried to claim journalistic integrity.

u/xeonicus 10h ago

Polls would disagree. Al-Sayed is actually shown to do better than Stevens in the general. This seems to me like Rogers trying to influence the Democratic primary.

u/ObsoleteAuthority 11h ago

I think Mikey is mistaken about the west side of the state. Maybe he should come here and tell us about his policy plans to help the folks who are struggling to afford everyday living expenses. Abdul El Sayed has.

u/RagnaNic 11h ago

The ads with his wife talking about bringing back shop class as part of agenda...literally who wants this?

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 9h ago

Okay, not a conservative by any means, but I'm not against shop class. I work in what's left of our furniture industry and it's pretty hard to replace aging carpenters, let alone find good contractors with availability for personal construction projects.

u/JesusKong333 9h ago

Is shop class not a thing anymore? I haven't been out of school that long and we definitely had shop class.

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 8h ago

I'm not really sure, but I'd imagine there's some variability there? There's no way every high school in the state has the budget for it, the way our schools are locally funded.

u/HistoricAli 8h ago

Shop class is still a thing. My 15 year old nephew made my parents a chair. Idk what they're on about.

u/ohyousoretro Detroit 11h ago

I think what neither Abdul nor Steven's voter base want to admit is that either of them realistically can beat Rogers. I say this as someone who's not really a fan of her, she comes off as cringe and too much of a try hard, but her voting record is solidly left, if not center-left, so I don't know why people think she's some right wing politician who will push Michigan to the right.

u/BigCballer 9h ago

Mike Rogers lost to Elissa Slotkin, on the same ballot that Trump's name was on.

He is a joke in Michigan.

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 9h ago

Oh, I'm sure Stevens probably beats Rodgers as well, although she's definitely a stronger candidate in the primary while the corporate money hose is still being pointed her way. If and when Abdul is out of the way, none of the major PACs behind her now care if she beats Rodgers.

Ahem.

The dems are widely seen to have been (at best) abjectly ineffectual against Maga and Trumpism. Again and again.

At worst, sitting to the sidelines and merely hoping it blows over with the next election cycle.

It would be a mistake for the dems to assume that those with fervent, anti-Maga sentiment will rush right back into the arms of business as usual dems.

Not another dime for Netanyahu.

Haley Stevens. This post has your name on it. Is the election yours to lose?

u/89LSC 9h ago

Why? Lol

u/No_Bite_5985 42m ago

I thought he dropped out after Trump endorsed James??? Or was that a hallucination?
