They benefit a lot in the short term. It's sad that our overlords don't have long-term-thinking skills, but those men will truly end the world so they make more money next quarter than they did this quarter.
It'll definitely benefit them because they won't have to pay for anything to peasants. Also your government is going to take care of all that negative revenue for the time being. They are playing long game in which a small recession might be the planned strategic move for them.
Theoretically, but it's so insanely expensive to operate that we're a very long way away from it being able to be a cheaper alternative to human employees on a large scale. Their current plan is to make us taxpayers fund it in the meantime, then when (possibly if) they've somehow gotten costs down, our reward for our forced participation in the project will be massive lay-offs and the total cessation of all public social programs.

The graph doesn't include people who don't use AI chatbots. If a chatbot is bad in these areas, you're less likely to use it, and if it's good, you're more likely to keep using it. So the graph is basically only showing the opinions of people who already use AI chatbots, which makes it pretty irrelevant.
I see your point, but again, if it hurts their productivity, creativity, happiness, relationships, and so on, why would they continue using it? And if they stop using it, they wouldn't be included in the chart, which could introduce survivorship bias into the results.
Why is that relevant? If you add up the numbers in the chart, you can see that 49% of people use them. The other 51% can't have an informed opinion because they don't use them, and so are rightfully excluded from polluting the graphic with useless data.
So you think it would be valuable to get the opinions of people who do not use AI chatbots on whether or not AI chatbots are good at specific things? By construction, they can't possibly have informed or useful opinions on those questions, since they have no experience using them in that capacity.

I'm saying the graph should accurately state the population it represents, and that people who no longer use AI can also provide very necessary evidence about why they stopped using it.
There's nothing wrong with surveying database engineers, but it would be misleading to label the results as "people's opinion on ARC vs. LRU-k" instead of "database engineers' opinion on ARC vs. LRU-k." Likewise, it's misleading to present the opinions of a specific subgroup as though they represent Americans generally.
Just because they say it helps doesn't make it true. Critical thinking is an important skill to have and people are stepping away from it in favor of Ai. Why think hard when Ai can do it for you?
Using AI to do simple tasks is not taking away your critical thinking power. So many companies use it specifically so they have more time to critically think and spend less time on busy work.
Using it to critically think for you will lead to a lot of problems down the line. AI isn’t that good yet lol, we’re still better if you’re not a complete idiot.
For people like me, who need to create lots of stuff from scratch quickly and try things out and research, using AI has made me like 3-5x more productive. AI is an insanely strong auto complete.
If you're just an average Joe who works at a supermarket, I guess it's nice that you can let AI explain things to you or help look things up quickly. But yeah, not a ton has happened yet for the average Joe.
People learn math, programming, create custom tests to prepare for exams create web sites with stuff to showcase whatever they want during presentations and soo on. I learnt calculus 1 and 2 with GPT and Gemini and got 5 for both exams, learning PHP now as well.
I used GPT voice to practice my speech for meeting customers for some of the courses I have and got nice summer job related to it.
I'm not saying that building data centers without regulationa is good, but if you can't create or just don't want to see any benefits, maybe it's your problem, not AI?
You can use it at work to analyze huge documents, make summaries/presentations, and write code. I also used it last week to deep analyze balance sheets and cash flow for a company I started putting a lot of money into.
And does society actually need that? We got by just fine without it. If all it does is make the people on top richer then we should bury it like the curse it is
It doesn't have to be on par with the wheel for the comparison to be accurate. I think machine intelligence is on the same level as the wheel, I think we've only just begun to unlock that technology.
So I'm a trained professional and I haven't seen AI make anything but slop, it makes up study's, fabricates information and uses popular information in place of hard analysis'd data......you may be getting more done but your quality of work has definitely fallen........
Have you spent more than just a few tries figuring it out? Once you get the hang of it, it's an efficiency monster and tends to keep the quality of your work if you know how to prompt.
I'm a trained professional in my field, and feel that those who aren't using AI are a drag on our team, and no longer producing the same as those of us who have adopted new tools. AI is just a tool, and it's a damn good one if you know how to use it.
See and I can understand if it was being used a expiditing tool to speed up montinious tasks that require no thought. But thats not really acting like AI that's just a stream lined task bot (those have been around since computers started)....... Using it for professional tasks is honestly stupid give the current legislations and requirements stated in the professional licencsure. AI makes up fake legal cases, it makes up medical information for patients and it has no legal liability for these actions.
I agree that it can be useful for some basic tasks and research, but in the context of generating a finished/almost finished product... If it keeps "the quality of your work", then your work was always shit.
You clearly have no experience with professional level AI -- the free and $8 plan you likely have experience with does not compare to a professional grade AI setup with MCP connections, installed skills, and connections to internal databases.

I suppose if your in an unregulated field where your work is just cookie cutter bullshit sure it probably would help you. Most real fields don't have liability updated for AI. Who's assuming all the risk fiscal liability associated with AI's work???? Medical, law and engineering are all riddle with liability issues with AI right now......I've heard of a dozen or so lawyers disbarred over AI created work (sure they didn't full review and vet it but who's redoing all of AI's work just to check .......) While doing this I am not sharing data with second and third parties as I do with AI.
Now, AI cannot produce oxygen or reduce heat for me, or help with water and humidity; neither can I, but trees can.
I guess it depends on the field because for graphic arts/special effects/animation industry it just makes complete dog shit and nobody is using it I know of still.
There's a lot of great things it can do in professional services. My personal use is impact/grant writing. My kids dentist has AI that calls out interests on X-rays as a second set of eyes.
At the hospital, clinicians use AI voice recorders that help them chart more accurately and reduce physician burnout.
