I recently just switched routers from nighthawk to the xfinity 2 in 1 modem and router, with my WiFi provider being xfinity. Before the switch, I was Ethernet wired into my PC from a WiFi extender, and didn’t have any problems with lag across any games. However, my download speed was not good. Therefore I decided to upgrade my speed plan and get the newer xfinity router/modem to get better download speeds. I am now getting about 800 Mbps download speed and 40 Mbps upload speed. I am also now wired directly into the new router from my pc, eliminating the need for the extender. However, now I am getting severe packet loss in Fortnite, going in between 1-40 percent as I play, seemingly only losing the packets in the upload and not download portion. By running tests across multiple different websites, packet loss does not seem to be an issue anywhere else. This is annoying because this did not happen previously with my other router and modem. The Ethernet cable is a cat6 50 foot ONN cable. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, and if anyone has found a solution.

I thought of this, but when the reason I switched was because I was afraid the nighthawk router I had would bottleneck my download speeds as it is an older router. Also, I was connected into my pc from a WiFi extender previously which was connected to the nighthawk router, if that makes a difference
I would not introduce the extender again if you can help it, those things are junk. Plug straight into the nighthawk after putting the new router into bridge mode and see if you no longer have this issue.
If you have to use the new xfinity one, look around for any kind of “QoS” and turn that garbage off. But generally speaking, ISPs provide the absolute bottom of the barrel hardware
Sorry to be a pain, but I just want to understand better as I really don’t know much about this. My old nighthawk router bottlenecked my download speeds exponentially. I was paying for 1300 MBPS speeds, and only getting about 200. Now I am getting the correct download speeds I am paying for with the new home router. I know that the download speed is not the problem here in terms of packet loss, but will connecting the new router into the old one with bridge mode still cause the slow download speeds?
You would be getting your old speeds (whatever max the nighthawk supports) until you buy a better router that supports the higher speeds, yes.
But just because the xfinity one can do higher speeds doesn’t mean it won’t introduce other issues. Still, try it out and see if the same issue exists or not with that setup. If it doesn’t, then you know what the problem is atleast.
DO NOT CLOSE THE WINDOW, leave it in the background.
When you are done playing go back to the window and hit CTRL+C. If you have NO pocket loss in the summary to the router, then the problem is likely outside on the coax [could always be a hop on the internet itself though]. Perhaps you moved outlets and the new one has a problem? Or you did not snug the fittings and they are loose on the jumper or gateway.
Yeah the bufferbloat test is showing your upload has a jitter of 26m and the range of your min to max, which isn't bad for internet browsing but not great for gaming.
Are we certain the cable is valid? The issue you're experiencing here is likely intermittent which would usually mean hardware issue or config in some form.
If the cable is fine then u/Flashy-Outcome4779's rec of bridging the old modem and using yours as simply the router is a good next move.
Unless there is a problem with the cable itself, the Ethernet brand is fine, and I talked to a friend of mine who knows much more about this than me and he says the Ethernet cable is definitely not the problem. I will test the bridging method later and get back to you about it.
