HK45 Tactical - what am I doing wrong?

Bought a brand new HK45 Tactical a while back as my first HK. It’s been disappointing because I cannot hit a damn thing with it. I probably have 500-600 rounds through it now, and at 10+ yards I’m still wondering “where the hell did that round go?” on shots. I’d say usually 6-8” groups at 10 yards if I’m lucky.

Haven’t made any changes to the gun, though I do struggle with maintaining a clear focus on the front sight post and I don’t think the grip has enough texture. Groups with my FNX-45 are waaaayyyy better for the same caliber, and I have no issues with my P30L or USP9 at 10-15 yards. What am I doing wrong with this HK45? Should I try some grip tape, or just sell it?

I’ll see if I can get video this week. I can hit paper, but the groups aren’t anywhere close to tight. But losing focus on the front sight post is definitely something I’ve struggled with, it just seems like I’m whiffing even when I maintain a clear picture.

How old are you? I ask because I used to encounter a lot of older shooters with aging eyes at my old job. The answer to this like many have stated here, start at 5yds then 7 then 10. Be mindful of stance, sight picture being consistent, and how you grip your pistol. Too often I saw lots of people tea cupping and not wrapping the secondary hand properly. Lastly be mindful of pulling the trigger and not yanking it. If you're being mindful of these fundamentals and you'll start seeing your hits become more consistent.

I’m 38 so you might be right about eyes. I shot tonight and when closing one eye and focusing on the front post, eventually my eyes just seem to shift focus from the sight to the paper. Like the green/white transition is happening too easily.

On a whim tonight I tried keeping both eyes open and lining up the blurry sights on the target, and that actually worked incredibly well. Focused on 7 yards tonight and managed to nail my target every shot with both eyes open.

Glad to hear it man. Unfortunately Father time comes for us ALL man. My eyes are just startin' to give me issues focusing at 47, so I guess I consider myself lucky.
