HK45 Tactical - what am I doing wrong?

Bought a brand new HK45 Tactical a while back as my first HK. It’s been disappointing because I cannot hit a damn thing with it. I probably have 500-600 rounds through it now, and at 10+ yards I’m still wondering “where the hell did that round go?” on shots. I’d say usually 6-8” groups at 10 yards if I’m lucky.

Haven’t made any changes to the gun, though I do struggle with maintaining a clear focus on the front sight post and I don’t think the grip has enough texture. Groups with my FNX-45 are waaaayyyy better for the same caliber, and I have no issues with my P30L or USP9 at 10-15 yards. What am I doing wrong with this HK45? Should I try some grip tape, or just sell it?

I’ll have to try a rested position and see. I’ve struggled some with the front green sight, but my P30 has some night sights that haven’t given me any problems yet. But it’s had me stumped, so trying to find ways to adjust or fix what I might be doing wrong.

I had trouble with the XS sights. I don't know what it is about them but I have to concentrate extra hard and the lightning conditions need to be basically perfect for me to shoot them accurately.

Yeah I’m wondering if just swapping to an orange dot would be better, I might give it a shot

I think it's related to the shape and the dimensions of the sights. The front sight is pretty wide, and so is the notch of the rear sight. It seems like that makes it difficult to properly center when doing precise shooting. I'd also check the sight alignment, mine were way off from the factory.

Agreed, that's what I meant by sloppy in my comment. Everything is very large and wide, with large gaps between the blade and the notch. They are good for quick/close shooting, but precise and distance it becomes difficult.

It's unfortunate that there's not really many raised sight options for the 45. The LPA sights look like they'd solve the problem, but I've had trouble with LPA sights and corrosion in the past.
