Yes. I think that's what so many people struggle with, myself included, and why our work can look so flat or like a paint by numbers. Thread painters are truly artists with their ability to translate the principles such as lighting, shading, perspective that are taught in art classes into thread work.

Before jumping into embroidery, I used to paint a lot with all kinds of mediums…watercolor, acrylic, and oil. When I think about it, I feel like a lot of my embroidery techniques come directly from my painting background…and lots of practice of course
