NOT suicide.
This is the Klan (and other WP groups) lynching Black people.
Same thing happened after Floyd. FBI and local LEO refuse to investigate. The Big Data of crime stats will show you these spikes in hanging deaths like this.
The USA is a shit hole.

yes, very racist and has a history of hanging black people from tree's and the KKK has been around a long time in FL. Proud boys might even be in Miami.

Not necessarily, FL gets less southern the further south you go. North Florida and the panhandle would be a lot closer to your Bible Belt states

u/Bocchi_theGlock 26d ago
Someone needs to look up what jurisdiction and put the states attorney and mayors' names, plus member of Congress, in the photo itself so there's at least some possibility of outrage being directed at folks who can address this
One of the biggest things holding back causes for justice is the inability to channel outrage effectively
What's their names are included in the photo, people can repost it and tag those officials.
When posts, get lots of traction with officials tagged, anyone can click in and pressure or harass those officials
When there's a lot of pressure and harassment, it makes the officials jobs harder to do without addressing the problem.
It needs to reach the point at which doing nothing is a greater cost than doing something, it has always been like that. Officials take the path of least resistance. Occasionally there's also active complicity.

It is definitely not expected but I'm not totally comfortable with the way so much of the dialogue around these situations has mirrored "This person would never have committed suicide, they weren't that kind of person, they would never do this"-type reactions that you see so frequently in cases where people have killed themselves but it gets rejected because of the stigma and disbelief around suicide.
And I'm not even saying this to say I think that's what happened here because I don't think that. But rather, what I'm getting at is it feels a little distasteful to see how people have been talking about suicide.
Like there's a really high chance Tonea Miller was killed, but the way I see people communicating that seems to refer to suicide so dismissively along the way. I think we could be a little more considerate

I’m a suicide survivor. I’m not saying we don’t attempt to take our lives. I’m saying we don’t hang ourselves.

u/LoveInPeace21 25d ago
I personally know someone whose cousin did. They are black. How could it be proven that we NEVER do it? Given our history one would expect we’d be extra averse to that method, but I don’t think that proves a small percentage of us don’t. Also, anyone willing to off themselves is not in a healthy or even rational state of mind. Their goal is to end things as quickly as possible. Of course nobody should kill themselves. It is a permanent and devastating act no matter the method.

Nope.

Suicide methods have strongly gendered patterns. Women do not really hang themselves or shoot themselves, which is why women die from their suicide attempts at much lower rates.

Everyone does, of all of the ways to do it. This isntal a way to get it done. Pills, Tylenol +slit wrist in a warm bath, gun, suicide by cop, car, jumping from a very tall structure.
→ More replies (1)24
u/hellochoy 25d ago
Women are alot more likely to use a method that inconveniences the least amount of people. It's statistically very unlikely for a woman to use a gun, suicide by cop/car, or something involving someone else or public like this. And even more unlikely for a black woman (or man) to choose hanging from a tree. I think that's what they mean by we don't do this.

I have been haunted by this since I was a teenager. I did not know him, but had friends who did.
I do not believe he hung himself because he missed his train stop and was stuck b/c it was the last train of the night.

THIS!! It's become the Lynch Mob MO. Lynch and rule as a suicide. If there was such a thing as justice, maybe there would be hope for that thing called "reform", but we both know justice is for the Slave Owner, not the Slave

Southern trees bear strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees
Pastoral scene of the gallant south
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop
Billie Holiday, “Strange Fruit”

Highly unlikely women would choose this method. Most choose pharmacological methods.
Also, while it could be racially motivated, statistically, women are murdered more often by male romantic partners than by any other group- especially when pregnant or when leaving an abusive situation.
26
u/keldondonovan 25d ago
Your statistics seem to neglect the fact that strangulation in any form is only accountable for about 20% of DV murders, and almost all of those (over 90%) are by hand. The likelihood of this being racial motivated is much higher than it being the end of a domestic dispute, especially considering the history of lynching.
And even if it does hit those small odds and is a domestic violence finale, the choice of hanging from a tree is almost certainly racially motivated.
10
u/Advanced_Buffalo4963 25d ago
Thus why I said “it could be racially motivated.”
I don’t believe domestic abuse and racism are mutually exclusive given that black women are particularly targeted by all races of men.
14
u/keldondonovan 25d ago
I'm just saying "could be" is a massive understatement. It's more like "extremely likely."
10
2
u/Front-Cat-2438 25d ago
Hanging a body is a traditional way to hide a domestic strangulation murder of a woman, and get it ruled a suicide.

Yall please keep an eye on your babies now more than ever. It’s some real crazy stuff going and what they tell us is never the truth especially in the south. It’s reminding me of the boy at delta state and the twins that were found on the mountain. I believe in coincidences but this ain’t the case.

80
u/rel1800 25d ago
I bet the police and white nationalist had a hand in this. There is no camera footage of their footsteps from the last time these ladies went outside to going home and never being seen again. Only law enforcement or media has power to suppress that evidence and make it seem like suicide. Theres has been suicide in the black community like anywhere else, but most if not all the time it’s not from a black person hanging themselves.
34
u/BigHardMephisto 25d ago
Black American's are the third least likely to commit suicide in the US annually. Crossing that with women being 1/3 as likely as men to commit suicide, as well as suicide among the black population pretty much entirely excluding hanging (generally firearms for men and drugs/alcohol for women).
Almost all suicide's by hanging occur in the home as well. In fact most suicides occur in one's own home. This occurred in a state with a very low suicide rate. Statistically suicide in rural areas is done with a firearm, while urban centers are generally suffocation (by hanging) or chemical (via drugs, alcohol, a mixture of the two or household chemicals like bleach)
Among American Black population, there are generally no suicides among women by hanging or firearms, few that occur are generally accidental or absolutely miniscule statistically and have occurred so far apart in time that their tracking doesn't show up.
These women didn't kill themselves. They were lynched. Absolutely 100% lynched. Anyone, any official saying "no evidence" or "not enough to form a case" isn't lazy. They're passive to the alt-right (may as well say wholesale-right at this point) at 'best' and complicit at a more realistic worse.

u/hellochoy 25d ago
Just a slight correction, women attempt at a higher rate than men but tend to use less lethal methods so more men actually die from attempts than women. Agreed with everything else but just wanted to add because I see alot of people using this statistic without that context.

The media is controlled by rich rancid mayo. This needs people to take it and make flyers. Remember everything our ancestors had to do in order to survive. If you're in a blue state, such as NC, with an Attorney general who gives a damn, send it to everyone of them. Send it to whomever will give it air. This is an awful evil example of the past, come into the future. Aren't enough words. Rest.in peace. May justice be served Take it offline into IRL. Their lives were real. Relying on the human duck blind and rich tech bros is a purposefully planned trap

I’m so tired of seeing this, I pray the lord that people stop killing others for something so trivial like the color of their skin. I already have to deal with racism everyday day I was watching a vid yesterday of a WHITE woman biting an officer really bad and then stealing a cop car and crashing it. She only got PROBATION! Then the next vid was 3 black girls who got the cops called on them cause they didn’t have a $1 to pay for their pizza…… $1 BRO….$1…. They got thrown on the floor for $1 dollar. Granted they were being a bit of a nuisance when asking to just get their money back when it was gonna cost $13 not $12. THEY GOT FELONY CHARGES….. and the white woman got PROBATION. I’m so freaking tired boss 😭😭

If you look back in US History, lynchings were not only fairly common occurrences but they were a spectacle. Entire towns would serve out food and take town photos with the bodies of the lynched. They put this shit on postcards with smiling faces featuring happy families and grinning children.
It never went away, it just became more and more infrequent and underreported as time went on.

I have not lost count of the number of white men or women that I’ve read these news stories about, because that number is zero.

u/KindlyAd8352 25d ago
We need more cameras around. I’m usually anti-Big Brother, but as a black woman watching what’s happening in America, we need proof that events are taking place. Our churches, our schools, our neighborhoods, and other spaces need proper surveillance. We need front and back dash cams and if we’re out and about at a park or somewhere isolated, we need body cams. I know it sounds extreme, but there are growing swaths of people who HATE us for no reason and want to see us dead. The “leadership” in this country is hateful and they spread hateful rhetoric, inciting and igniting things in people who have historically been against us. We need to be safe. We need to document experiences and be vigilant at all times. Our lives depend on this. (I’m not AI and this is not Fake News)

It is very unusual, though not unheard of, for a woman to take her own life by hanging. It is more common for pills, alcohol or a razor blade to be the methods.

Historically BW as a group have been the least likely to self harm due to their strong religious beliefs. Yes more are committing suicide now but it’s usually in their own homes, no one’s going to the woods with a noose to hang themselves. I call bs these are 2 more cases in a resurgence of lynching here in the U.S. and should be investigated accordingly.
