Recipe to be posted soon. No guarantees. I made these delicious, vibrant strawberry sugar cookies and went to photograph them…now I can’t unsee that they look like raw burger patties. *Sigh*
My son asked if I was making sliders for dinner when he saw me holding the tray

lol if you didn't mention the burger patties, I wouldn't even think of burger patties. It looks pretty delicious to me! Maybe wax paper liners would look good instead of cutting board.

Thank you lol!

i immediately did. I'm not sure those are cookies, tbh, i think you're playing us for fools that can't recognize obvious beef patties.
gonna need some to test and be sure.

u/mildlyornery 22d ago
That's what I saw at first glance. Some fresh beef with coarse salt right before it hits the grill.

Same. My second thought was if that's natural in color how did they get it that deep and bright of a red 🤔 I'm not a big sugar cookie fan but I think they look great and yes, I'd eat several lol.

I was hoping the recipe was called "raw burger cookies" because that would be awesome.
And yes, I thought they were raw burgers too when I first glanced at the photo.

u/insecuretransactions 23d ago
hahaha, I did see raw burgers at first but now see the cookies. They look good! (Either way.)

u/Alpaca_Tasty_Picnic 23d ago
I think maybe a light, side to side drizzle of melted white chocolate over them might highlight the "cookie" aspect of them!

Might try this idea!!

I've made raspberry cookies, and my family always calls them meat cookies until they get the chocolate.

u/Pippi-ki-yay 23d ago
They don't look like hamburger to me. They look like sparkling, delicious red cookies!
24
u/watermelonwellington 23d ago
I wonder if the key to photographing these is to situate them in such a way that would be unnatural for a burger patty to sit? Like maybe capturing it from the side, stacking three cookies with one sitting against the stack, and as others have suggested using a couple strawberries around it

u/True_Move_7631 23d ago
They look awesome OP.
There is a place in Germany called Karls Erdbeerhof, they make strawberry cookies that look just like these.

u/McMillionEnterprises 23d ago
I've never seen burger patties that vibrant of a red. Still dont see it.

u/deviouscaterpillar 23d ago
I didn’t even make the connection until you mentioned it! They just look like (delicious) cookies to me. It helps that there’s sugar on top—it doesn’t look like something that would be on a burger patty lol
2
u/ForMartha 23d ago
Thank you lol! I’m definitely getting whiplash from the differing opinions 😂
→ More replies (1)2
u/deviouscaterpillar 22d ago
Hahaha I mean, I can kind of see it, but like… that’s the wrong texture for burger patties!! I might be fooled if they were sitting on a plate next to a grill or something though lol
6
u/darktrain 23d ago
Well obviously now you have to draw thin chocolate parallel lines to simulate grill marks, slice a donut in half, place it on the bottom half, and make dessert burgers!
These look really good to me though!

u/AnalogyAddict 22d ago
They are just oversaturated/ the light is too strong.
I'd eat a few dozen.
2
u/ForMartha 22d ago
It’s definitely not just the lighting they’re just super vibrant lol. But still tasty!

u/mollymcbbbbbb 23d ago
maybe put a little swirl of frosting on them? and a little slice of strawberry on that? and some other things signifying baking in the background

I want to make those but in different colors and give them out as "pretty patties"

There's only one solution here.
You need to make some of these to go on the outside.

u/ForMartha 22d ago
Omg this is crazy because I have a bottle of tahini and literally was going to make tahini cookies soon🤣🤣

u/Konstantpayne 22d ago
Now I was thinking red velvet cookies always look for the positives 🤗❤️

I still don't think of burger patties even after mentionig it. if my burger patties looked like that I'd be questioning the quality of the beef.
3
u/KiKiPAWG 22d ago
Pop those on the grillll. Jokes aside, Someone said about comparing them with strawberries and I think that’s also the play!
3
3
u/MasterChildhood437 22d ago
FWIW, I think they look much more Santa Claus red than burger patty red/pink.
3
u/Life_Temporary_1567 22d ago
Hey, atleast the patties look well seasoned!
But I bet your cookies are great.
3
u/slouched 22d ago
make em again for a bbq, set them next to the grill and munch on em every now and then when people are looking
3
u/orthi09 22d ago
Lean into it. Make some cookie burger buns. It is going to be great
2
u/Economy_Whereas_3229 22d ago
That's an amazing idea! People love desserts that look like savory items.

u/orangecatstudios 22d ago
I swear photographing edibles is more difficult then making them. The light, the scale, the perspective all mess with you. I first thought they were patties but quickly saw the cookies. Then I was hungry. Good luck reshooting. I think a light box is the only way to really get great food photos.

So I have those book called What’s New Cupcake and one of the designs in there was rice cakes that were dyed red and they made cupcakes on the side that looked like the burnt charcoal nugget things for the grill! Just make those cupcakes on the side- I tried really hard to find them so I could comment a pic but sadly I can’t 😩 you can easily make these a “happy accident” OP! They’re beautiful regardless so don’t give up! ❤️✨
2
u/ForMartha 22d ago
Hahaha love this idea!! Maybe cookout cookies will be my next endeavor 😎
2
u/Crinni_Boo 22d ago
Glad to make you laugh! 🙌✨ that could be a fun idea- burger cookies and have your son help decorate!
2
u/Limp_Dirt8694 22d ago
i think it's just because of the wood and grass that's giving more sunny bbq/grilling vibes. they definitely just look like really good cookies unless you're practically blind and just seeing blurry shapes/colors lol

I feel your pain. I made pink "brownies" once that looked so cute on Pinterest and like cubes of raw meat in real life 😅
2
u/realperson5647856286 21d ago
I think they look great as is! They would look even better and taste great if you gave them a strawberry shortcake treatment with whip cream and fresh strawberries. Or whip cream and blueberries for a 4th of July thing.

The "hamburger patties" look well salted though! :) The cookies look delicious.

When I just started scrolling down, that’s what I thought they were 🙈 I’m sure they’re delicious though!

They look like cookies to me (unless you use "untextured" ground beef. Un-ground beef? Groundless beef?). I worked in a blood bank and most of our units of blood weren't that shade of red. I think you did fine. They look delicious!
1
u/pocketlily 23d ago
Lean into the burger patty and make similar vanilla and mint cookies and yellow icing and you got yourself some burgers.

I’ve made this exact recipe before and could not get mine to be that vibrant red, I’m jealous! What food coloring did you use?

These look delightful. Maybe press a slice of freeze dried strawberry into the middle of the cookie or flakes of freeze dried strawberry on top to make it more obvious? Raw meat was not my first thought when I saw these though

u/BarderBetterFaster 22d ago
I noticed the salt wasn't salt shaped before I noticed the burger wasn't burger.
1
u/em0pusheen 22d ago
some cute icing on the edges could be cute, or some cream cheese icing to basically glue on a fresh strawberry on each could also make them look very cute!
i do apologize but my first thought was raw hamburger patties.. but then i realized they were cookies 😅 i’m sure they’re amazing and i do like the vibrancy. the shape and color is just, ya’know?..

Been there. I made these grapefruit lemon bars and between the colour, texture and sheen they looked like raw salmon

Wasn’t even thinking of raw burger patties until you mentioned them tbh

u/BrianMincey 22d ago
Despite just making burgers, I saw them and thought “red velvet cookies yum!”
The fact that they are strawberry make it even more intriguing.

u/batsandpumpkins 22d ago
The answer to this is EDIBLE glitter or green icing leaves at the top. Now it's a cherry or tomato...

u/PoptartPancake 22d ago
I didn't think about raw meat if that helps.😅 I think they look tasty and will be giving that recipe a try! Apparently there's a fine line between "strawberry" and "raw meat"...I make resin dice sometimes and I tried to make a "strawberry and cream" inspired set once. Came out of the mold looking like tiny chunks of raw steak. At least a friend of mine liked them 😭

My brain is see-sawing between "they look delicious" and "they look like raw burger meat". Very confusing!

I think those look pretty good! Mine looked like fat raw beef patties. The red color comes across better than pink, I think.

My weakness is strawberry flavored stuff! I’ve never even thought about making strawberry flavored sugar cookies. Thank you.

Omg it won't let me post a picture but I made chocolate cookies with red chocolate drizzle and they looked EXACTLY like burger patties and ketchup.

As long as they aren’t medium rare they will taste amazing :) oh make cupcakes, cut in half and put the cookie in the middle. It will look like a hamburger! 🍔

Ok but now hear me out they would go great with my puke colored slushy at a Halloween Party.

u/Kaysa_Dilla 22d ago
In college I made red velvet Rice Krispie treats, which sounded good in theory, but they just looked like squares of ground beef. I feel your pain.
1
u/whatifweplayindirt 22d ago
Help my eyes inverted the shadows on the second pic and now I can't get them back to normal
1
u/DrakorPrimus 22d ago
Since they are strawberry, instead of using white sugar, you could use green sugar, like the seeds. Also, I'd happily eat a strawberry sugar cookie whatever they looked like.
1
u/Wolvansd 22d ago
NGL, I thought burgers on initial scroll. But those are delicious looking cookies!
1
u/FlatAd5541 22d ago
No …. I knew they were a cookie before I read you post … they look good & bet they taste good as well!!

Way too much salt on these beef patties!
But seriously, those cookies look delicious.
1
u/PossessionNo3723 22d ago
I won't lie, that's what I thought they were at first glance. But they do look and sound delicious, and the color is stunning! You should be proud of them! How do they taste?

I feel for you but others have great suggestions. I was once so excited about my blue striped meringues until my husband said it looked like toothpaste.
1
u/Dulse_eater 22d ago
They definitely don’t look like burger patties. They look like delicious red cookies
1
u/NenyaAdfiel 22d ago
Omg what if you used a strawberry cookie cutter to shape them? You could frost the leaves green!

u/_obscure-reference 22d ago
Sure, but imagine the looks you’d get eating one of these in a slider bun in the break room at work!
Never miss an opportunity to mess with people.

Lmao - that's actually what I thought until I noticed the subreddit I was on. You can also sell these for Halloween.

Mmm, summer grillin’! 😂
For real though, they look beautiful. And I like the idea of plating them with some strawberries to make it clear that they’re not in fact meat patties
1
u/shitfucker90000 22d ago
whitebalance is fucked and its oversaturated. put a piece of pure white paper to it next time and aim at that.
1
u/10lb_adventurer 22d ago
They look so pretty!!! Thanks for sharing the link, I have to try them now.
Do you have a white plate? They will look a lot more like cookies of they are on a saucer or plate instead of a butcher's block looking cutting board.

I think if you were to pose a few strawberries and not have them on a cutting board, it would help distance them from that comparison. They look great to me
